Title: Intermittent Gun Issue With House Of The Dead 4

Here's one that really has me scratching my head.

I am having an unusual issue with HOTD4. THe guns have been experiencing very intermittent issues in detecting the shaking of the gun. Sometimes on gun will fire and reload at the same time and then it miraculously fixes itself. But then I'll have an issue where the other gun throws all of it's grenades in succession but I've opened it more than once and the switch is fine. Right now the current issue is it detects the palyers shaking the guns to reload but it doesn't register any shaking when shaking events appear (such as a zombie grabbing you or needing to open a door). This latest one is hindering the game itself and I am wondering if this is a hardware issue or maybe corrupt software. I have replaced the I/O board that is supposed to control the guns and it fixed the issue for a brief time and then they started happening the same way again, which makes me wonder if it really had anything to do with the problem.

Anyone with any idea on how to fix this I'll owe you one, or eternal free games on HOTD4 for as long as I have it. ;)

Does the test/calibration menu show anything? Microswitche's good? Speed sensor adjusted and working? LED lights good? Give off any error code? Hard to say without seeing it I guess.

Calibration - doesn't show anything strange. When it has I open the guns, clean them out then they work fine

Microswitches - I DO need to check these

Speed sensor - not sure which one this is as I don't have a manual. Could be one part of the problem though

LEDs - seem to be fine

No error codes either. The game never crashes which is a good thing.

Hmm, sent you some info. Is this a Mt. Coin machine? Do they do maintenance?

I'm not good with gun games, but here's a site that should have the manual for you, at least..

Yes it's a Mt. Coin machine. They have helped me a little bit but even they are stumped as to what it is. Thanks for the info (both of you)!

It'll most likely be the gun cable harness, I'm finding that mine need changing every 6-9 months.

The symptoms are similar to yours, is it both guns? I've got a few spare and you could have borrowed one to test, but postage is a bit of an issue.

Huh, when Sega told me that it was possibly the harness I didn't give that much thought (partially because they wanted a huge amount of cash for one).

The strange thing is that both guns seem to do it on and off but the problem occurs on the right gun the most.

I might actually be selling the game next week as I am both tired of all the issues it has and I really need the cash but if that falls through, I will drop you a line about that postage. :)

the harness is just wires in a really tough tube. Break out your multimeter and some alligator clips. Measure the resistance on each wire, or use the continuity beep if your meter has it. If you get strange readings that change as the harness is moved, or it's okay in one position but breaks off as you move it, you almost certainly need a new harness.
