Welcome to the year 1978, a year marked by tension, suspicion, and turmoil in the Wizarding World. The Dark Lord Voldemort is more powerful than ever before, causing widespread fear through the mass killings of Muggles, Muggleborns, and any witch or wizard brave enough to get in his way. Even the Ministry of Magic has been infiltrated by a dark presence, with nearly half of its employees being Death Eaters, and other Ministry workers being subject to threats and blackmail from Voldemort and his followers.

In fact, many say that the only safe place left is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, under the watchful eye of Albus Dumbledore. Even at Hogwarts, however, there is no ignoring that times are getting darker. Rumors of terrorist attacks against Muggles are increasingly common, and mysterious disappearances are reported almost daily in the newspapers. Many students lost the lives of friends and family members to Death Eater attacks, and most of the older students are afraid to face the world after graduating Hogwarts.

Despite the growing fear amongst Hogwarts students and faculty, some see hope for the future of the Wizarding World. There are a few who are brave enough to want to fight the Dark Lord. Many teachers have joined the Order of the Phoenix, and many students plan to join after graduation. However, Dumbledore is trying his best to keep the troubles of the outside world from the minds of Hogwarts students. After all, they have enough to worry about, like taking exams, passing classes, strengthening friendships, and finding romance. They're too young to die fighting a war.
