I was talking to a friend of mine who had been up in the Wyoming Rockies, doing some fishin and he said that before they where aloud to go out that they had to sit through a five minute seminar on bears and specifically the difference between Blacks and Grizzlies. My buddy said it was very educational and the ranger ;who was teaching the seminar, started off saying that , when you are in Bear country it is good to make your presence known. Make a lot of noise while walking and that you could even put little bells on your clothing as to not surprise a Bear. He also said that while it is against Federal Law to carry a gun in the National Forest, that you could carry Pepper Spray and that it was effective against Bears. He then began to show everyone how you could tell the difference between Black Bears and Grizzly Bears. He told me that the Ranger said that Black bears are smaller and usually Black or Dark Brown with a more pointed shaped nose and a smaller head than a grizzly and aren't really all that aggressive, he also said that their droppings where smaller and usually contained seeds and insect fragments. He then went on and explained that Grizzly Bears where much larger and usually Dark or Light Brown with longer hair than that of the Black Bear and have a larger more blunt, bulldog shaped head and their droppings usually contain " little bells and have a strange odor, kind of like that of Pepper Spray"
