APRIL.1. and our spring bear season opens. we are BLESSED here on vancouver island with lots of river vallys and an abundance of bears. its all of 9 miles to the hunting grounds. trying my .50cal.flinter this spring, but will pack my .30-06 featherweight as back up. no time for a RELOAD before the bear hits the mountain side and heavy bush. at over 60,i am not inclined to do any mountain goat activities anymore. Sounds very interesting. If it wasn't so far away from where I live, I would like to go on a hunt like that. :)

I am planning to come hunt the island next year ! i have no idea where to go...
im making this a no frills hunt, fly from here to there... find place to stay for
a week while hunting.... rent a jeep or something to get around in... and
hope i make it to the right areas.... it would be great to have someone there to
chat with... and help clear up some of the niggly details ....

If you are coming from stateside, bows are no problem,UNLESS its a cross bow.Then you will need the same type of permit as a firearm to import. i used to hunt GROUSE with my BEAR recurve, but never was even a FAIR shot. FALL hunting starts in 1st. week of september for deer and bear, runs to approx. middle of dec.Spring hunt for BEAR runs april.1 to about june.15. COUGAR and wolf (And VARMINTS) runs sept .to.June.15.of following year. OF COURSE I CAN NOT GUIDE YOU,as that is AGAINST the law, But i sure as heck can take a visiting buddy on a hunt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
