Title: Blackbeard's Pirate Adventure
Description: The old animatronic pirate attraction

Sorry if I am mistaken, but I don't beleive there is a topic on Blackbeard's Pirate Adventure, the attraction that stood in the now 'Dock and Quay' (somewhat neglected) shops area of Adventure Island.
I don't know much about the ride's history, but I remember it always being there when I was a child throughout the nineties, when the park was still Peter Pan's Playground/ Peter Pan's Adventure Island.
It was a particlar favourite of mine and I have lots of memories of it.
The ship, Queen Anne's Revenge was in the middle of a lake and a life sized pirate model climbed a rope on the ship as effects of cannons went off and created life-like splashes in the water.
As I remember you entered the ride via a ramp, just to the right of the great ship. Once you had reached the deck of the ship you walked past a box (which I believe still remains at the back of the Dock and Quay area) which had a banging effect and a 'pirate inside' which yelled loudly for help; "help! Get me out of here!!".
The next scene in the top of the ship was my favourite and one of the most memorable- it comprised of a 'beautiful woman' sitting on a stool, possibly combing her hair and singing a song, however as the animatronic turned to face you, you were startled to see that the woman was more of a lizard-type creature who loudly cackled and hissed as her long toungue flicked about her mouth!
After laughing at this scene, you crossed a small wooden bridge to an area labelled 'Cut throat Prison'. I distinctly remember a sign just inside the doorway warning you to stop and allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness in the 'prison'. Here you proceeded down dark corridoors full of scenes of horror, with wax work models and animatronics torturing or being tortured. As i usually walked through this part quite quickly due to being young and a little frightened, I don't remember much. But I do remember one scene which used to be outside Peter Pan's and which i used to stare at in amazement/fear- it was a man laying on a device with a swinging axe going side to side over his body, slightly catching him as it went. Don't think i'll ever forget that sight! Also, the last scene in Cut-throat Prison, where an in-mate beckoned you to come closer, and once you did, he rattled his cage bars at you! I remember this startled me so much on one occassion, walking through the attraction with my brother, that I jumped right back and hit the wall!
The last section of the ride took you through the lower deck of the ship, where models of pirates were in the bunks sleeping (the bellies of the animatronics moved up and down as they 'breathed'). Another scene showed two pirates arm-wrestling (with one watching). The final scene was a pirate, possibly looking through a window, pleased and fascinated to see a mermaid! However, when you walked past the window the mermaid was now gone! (good old Peter Pan's special effects, or perhaps the pirate had drank too much rum and was hallucinating!).
A great ride, poorly replaced in my opinion. If anyone has any other memories of this ride then i'd love to hear them! Sorry this post is so long, I got carried away! :)

It was a very good walkthrough attraction but by the time it got replaced it had got a bit old.
Originally the boat was a replica of the Golden Hind ship, which had a wax museum on board. This wasn't owned or operated by the park. When the park obtained that area of land (in 97 I think) they wanted to keep the legacy that the Golden Hind had established but also make it a bit more 'accessible' for everyone. The old boat went and a new one (Queen Anne's Revenge) was constructed in its place. Originally the attraction was open to wristband wearers and ride ticket holders, as well as people being able to pay cash. Eventually the paybox was phased out. Towards the end of its life as Pirate Adventure, the boat was covered up from view in the park by gift shops and such, so nobody went on it unless they knew it was there.
So in 2006 it opened as Blackbeards All At Sea.
I think the 'new' Blackbeards is a good attraction, better for kids than the old one was but in terms of theming etc, it doesn't compare. I suspect its days are numbered.

does anyone have a photo of the old scene in which the man was getting chopped in half by the swinging axe? I had a nightmare about it last night and my other half cant remember it and i wanted to jog his memory but searched online and on main page about past rides but cant find one . Thank you.

Found this from a quick Google search...

This was outside the front of the Golden Hind replica before the park took over that area, I don't know when this photo was taken. I can't remember if this scene made it into Blackbeards, it may have been in there somewhere but my memory's a bit hazy at the moment!
Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Oh wow! That's it... the little glass box I used to stand and glare at in the 1990s, I remember it well.
Yeah it was used in the 'Cut-throat Prison' part of the attraction when it became Blackbeard's Pirate Adventure.
Thanks Hurri, much appreciated!
(P.S More pics like this of Peter Pans' past would be amazing. :)

Most of the theming is kept in the dungeon building in the dock and quay area.

Didn't they use this in the curse of the black scream ???

Sort of.
The scene was in there, and it seemed to be using the same models although their appearance has changed slightly. The swinging blade itself definitely wasn't the one shown here.
