Title: A Tale Of Thievery And Name-pinching
Description: The cheeky lot!

Hurri - April 7, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
It's always been the way things have been done...

In 1995 we opened Tidal Wave. In 2000 Thorpe opened Tidal Wave.
In 2001 we opened Vortex. Later the same year Thorpe opened Vortex.

But now things have been taken to a whole new level...

Sealife Weymouth has opened a new section called "Adventure Island". Incidentally, they call themselves 'Sealife Adventure Park'. Intriguing...

http://www.sealifeeurope.com/local/whatsnew.php?id=192

So this is going to be a park with four rides, woo. A drop tower and a tipping tugboat, apparently... Yeah, ok.

There's only one Adventure Island (disregard Florida, it doesn't count)!

ACCEPT NO IMITATIONS!

Four Rides? What an Adventure! I'd get a greater sense of excitement and adventure from visiting Canvey Island.

Double post, but some new promotional artwork has been released.

Some Rockin Tug they have there aye? ;)

Hurri - April 27, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)

I Agree on everything but also thorpe park is having a new 2009 coaster which is the same make and type as RAGE and all its going to be is a little bit bigger :)

Hurri, I take it the Millers are aware of this? I wonder what the legal standpoint is on this. Presumably the name Adventure Island is a trading style of Stockvale Leisure and so cannot be used by a third party - especially not one in the same industry!?!

The Millers are fully aware of the situation and there is no legal standpoint or infact anything they can do as the name Adventure Island was never trademarked by them. So it legally can be used by anyone.

There's an Adventure Island waterpark in Florida too, it's not trademarked and nothing can be done.

Just for the record, the one in Florida is "Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure" - unless you're talking about a different one! And can you believe I went there and thought "hmmm that queue for Hulk is too long - let's go on something else!"??? MUPPET!!!!

Edit: Waterpark? Oh, you MUST mean something else then!

Hurri - May 18, 2008 03:52 PM (GMT)
IoA is different to Adventure Island. It's a waterpark in Tampa, looks quite fun but IoA looks better.

Mr Miller should trademark both sea life and Adventre Island as a couple of weeks ago I went to the Isle of wrihgt and during my holiday I went to Blackgang Chine .. And there was a part called Adventurei sland and also they had a ride called CLIFFHANGER and it was exacley like Mighty Mini Mega exept it went round twice although the brake were EXACTLEY THE SAME!

I know that this site is monitered by AI itself so I woulad urge them to take my advice...

It may sound crazy coming from a 10 yearold, but I ealy like AI it is my insporastion for a lot of the things I do in school and I would do anything to help!

Hurri - August 2, 2009 07:46 PM (GMT)
Regarding Cliffhanger, it's not the same as Mini Mega. It's made by IE Park, the company that sort of took over Pinfari's designs, but it's their later modified version, the JR30. Mini is MM29. The later model has a slightly taller lift hill and the layout is different to make it less likely to valley, and it has the newer design of train.

As for going round twice, the brakes definitely look the same. I can only assume IE Park have modified the control system to make it possible.

Anyway. Topic.
The names can't be trademarked, really. They're too widely used.

rock - August 15, 2009 08:39 PM (GMT)
Cliffhanger is amazing (like mini mega) but it really does look like ur going to fall right down the cliffs edge.

Blackgang chine is a fantasy park so give it some slack lol.

OMG, thorpe park has a new mascot called "max thrill" and im telling u that they are coping AI with rageman, it just cant be another coincedence.

what do u think???

sam! - August 27, 2009 08:35 AM (GMT)
Max thrill has been at that park since the start of this year. Nope dont think they are coping Rageman.

rock - August 27, 2009 10:40 AM (GMT)
lol soz ive only just found out, ive never seen him there though. and i recon they are lol

sam! - August 27, 2009 01:48 PM (GMT)
Lol he was there at the start think he came back for the summer hols.

andy76 - August 27, 2009 01:55 PM (GMT)
thorpe is run by the second biggest theme park chain in the world, i expect they have hired some incredibly creative people so they would have no need to copy AI.
