Yes it recommended pre-op but make sure your instructor is properly qualified and is aware of your back problems. There are moves/positions that you may not be able to achieve but if your instructor is good he/she will show you another way the same effect can be achieved. biggrin.gif

I have been looking on the internet this morning and there is a local sports injury and physio clinic quite close which do assessments and pilates, they have been there a long time and there prices seem reasonable, I just did not want to get in touch if it is not recomended prior to any ops.
Thanks for getting back to me
xx

Could you get a referral from your GP. Mine had a physio based at the surgery that you could visit for 6 appointments and I then got referred on to the local hospital for help pre op.

The physio I did post op was all pilates based and my physio now is also pilates based so can testify that it is good for a very rubbish back!

I was advised to do a 3 month trial of pilates under Mr S to see if surgery could be postponed. It did improve my pain levels a little & I was able to do a bit more but went ahead with the surgery to regain my quality of life. Mr S said it would make my post op recovery quicker but it doesn't seem to have so far - I wouldn't let that put you off though. Mr S is very pro pilates & I restarted it at 6 weeks post op after my review appointment with him. He told me it wouldn't prevent further DDD but would certainly help the situation.

Hi Carole,
I like you had to loose weight prior to the surgery and I have to say it really does make recovery post surgery easier. With all the walking I am doing, it has stayed off and I intend to keep it that way as I am more active now than I have been for nearly 10 years. I had to loose 15 kgs for the op, I got 11 kgs off and they were happy to operate as my BMI was within the range needed. I have managed to get the rest off post op. Good luck, you are doing very well. it's not the easiest thing to do with restricted mobility so we should be well proud of ourselves!
