There are a number of criteria which are essential for patients who need disc replacement.

/ They should be suitable patients, in the eyes of not only their doctor but the surgeon also.

/ Their disability should be causing them a lack of mobility, pain, and affecting their lifestyle.

/ They have tried all the other less invasive things, prior to surgery.

/ They understand the risks as well as the benefits of the surgery, and have done their best to make them suitable candidates, ie. BMI between 20 and 25, used the correct medication as advised, and tried to lead a good and stable lifestyle.

/ They understand about pacing for a good recovery. It's no use a surgeon using his skills and time to do ADR surgery, if the patient is going to abuse their body during and after recovery.
