Were the three discs above L4/L5 looking ok when you had the ADR done or did you know they would need tackling eventually?

Its awful to face surgery again so soon, were you told that just doing one might be ok? I can understand how upset you are, I was bad enough having to have surgery 7 years after my first op. Which type of disc are you having for L3/L4, L2/L3 and L1/L2?

Hi Carol. How did the Freedom disc work for you? I had been waiting for Mr Ross to do 2 levels but he has now said he can not and I have also been referred to Mr Shackleford, from what I have read on this site I would much prefer Mr Shackleford to mr Ross, please try to think positive you have been moved to a much better surgeon, I know it must be absolutly awful to have to go through it all over again, but you are in better hands now. xxx -------------------- Take Care

Welcome to the forum Carol but sorry to hear you need further surgery, I understand how you must be feeling right now but am happy that Mr Shackleford can help you. I have four artificial discs, two in my lower back and two in my neck, Mr Shackleford undertook both of my surgeries and I highly recommend him. It is unfortunate that you have this further degeneration Carol but sometimes it happens. Not sure whether having had the op before is an advantage or not, at least you know what it entails and can be prepared and doing something a second time is never as bad as first time. I'm just trying to reassure you but you know you are facing a big operation, just focus on the fact that it will be worth it to have relief from the pain. We will support you through as best we can, there are many helpful people here. Look forward to the New Year when you will be recovering and all this will be behind you. Very best wishes Lynda xx -------------------- Lumbar facet injections, May 2008 - Mr Shackleford, Warrington

Hi Carol
Sorry to hear you have so many problems with 4 discs. Just want to say I know how you feel about having your life messed about. I spent about 2 years under a Preston surgeon to be told that he couldn't do 2 level ADR and that he didn't agree that the op helped back pain. It is such a waste of time and also deteriorating fitness levels. Mr S is replacing 2 for me next week and I have every faith in him. You really have been treated very badly. Good luck to you with Mr S. Love Gilly xxx -------------------- 1990 MRI disc protrusion level4/5 fusion offered but
declined due to poor prognosis. Osteopathy, physio, traction, steroid injections epidurals all tried. 2006 Muscular-skeletal back building course. 2007 Mri disc protrusions Level 4/5 level5/S1. 2008 Discograms show annular tears and bulging. 2009 2 levelADR op 23rd April by Mr Shackleford cancelled due to anaemia.1st Oct and 15th cancelled. Now 29th |

your all extramley brave .some of you have had 3 or more ADR and talk about it as if it was getting a tooth filled .i have nothing but admiration for you all .i am scared stiff as i may have to have ADR myself as my back is worn out and i have already had 2 major back surgeries .the last one has left me incapacitated .what i would like to know is ..befor your surgery could you only sleep for an hour or so befor pain woke you/also did you loose sexual function and were you in constant pain all the time .i was a fit man and now my life consisted of pain killers and recliner .i fell sad super scared and worried sick .i have read so many bad things about ADR and i belong to another site {spine health} and i have has so mane people tel me to steer clear of ADR as they are still experimental and you only here of the good out comes .also i have read that there is premature failure of the device as the polyprolaline bush wears out causing pain and even worse life threatening surgery ..i am due a new MRI scan soon then a consultation with gnanalingham nut after that i want to see Mr shackleford for a second opinion .even is ADR is indicated i don't know whether i have it in me to go through the operation as i feel that something terrible will happen to me either on the table of a few months later .i am really scared and i would like to meet some one that has gone through the procedure .i am in Manchester and from what i can gather most of you live within a 50 mile radius ,my wife and i would be willing to travel to any location to meet with some one to talk to a real human that has been through the procedure ,contact me for my phone number ,tony.beer 1@goodlemail.com
