Hi All,
Thanks for all your good wishes.
Sorry to have to tell you after and initial cancellation on 29th, my surgery on 5th Nov was cancelled at last minute due to an emergency situation.
Am gutted, there was no bed on 4th, so went in on 5th. waited all day, got a bed eventually around 3pm and around 6pm Mr Shackleford came to see me with the bad news. I can't describe how gutted I felt. All for nothing. I'm now waiting for a new date and hoping it's soon. Just hope nobody else has to go through a cancellation at last minute, it felt bad enough the thought it might get cancelled on wednesday, but, at least it would have been better than at the last minute, with banging head and after waiting all day.

I know just how you feel, last month I was going into the operating theatre for something other than spine surgery and I was literally on my way into theatre and suddenly the whole thing was cancelled.

There had been a whole lot of presurgical preparation as well, it's not nice, but just think that maybe next time you will feel as nervous, and they will ensure that you get a priority surgery in the future.
Best,

Sorry to hear about your cancellation, my revision surgery earlier this year was cancelled due to an emergency coming in. When the second op date came I was convinced it wouldn't happen but it did. I tried to find lots of "nice" things to fill the extra time and was super organised when I went in.

I think the only thing that made it a little bit easier for me was that I had my ADR surgery done as an emergency as I lost bladder control so I probably got someone else operation cancelled and if I hadn't had the op ASAP I might not have regained control.

Hi All,
Thanks for the good wishes, I feel better now, well have to dust yourself off and get on with it.
I just hope the poor girl who they needed the theatre was ok in the end. Always worse off which is what I keep telling myself.
I just hope I don't have to wait until so late in day next time.
Fingers crossed I get a date soon.

I'm so sorry to hear that your surgery has been cancelled. I am probably feeling the same as you at the moment - as I haven't got a surgeon or a surgery date. I should have been looking forward to my surgery this Thursday. I feel really down and all I can think about was my stupidity at listening to a so called friend. All we can do is pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down.

I hope you don't have to wait too long.

Hi Nailah,
Don't beat yourself up, about your questioning. If your friend's query made you ask questions it has to be for a reason. We may not be able to see it at time, but, daft as it sounds I do believe things happen for a reason. Sometimes not terribly nice things, but, they do. Just hang in there!
Yes, we have to just get on with it as best we can and believe it all works out in the end. I wish I could help you in some way, it's so frustrating. I was off for about 20 months in total a few years back and feel sometimes why wasn't this done then. But, maybe I'm in a better position now to undertake the surgery and have the right support. I had been made redundant and then was unable to work. Daft as it sounds even the DSS writing me off kind of hurt. It was a relief in one sense they understood how bad things were, but, not good when even they agree you not well.
I hope you get somewhere soon also. Let's hope we both do, onwards and upwards! It's the only way things can go!
Mine was cancelled for a girl bleeding to death and hard as it is to be cancelled like that, at least my situation is not life threatening and as they say there is always someone worse off.
You take care and keep us posted when you have some news.
Sending big hugs
Jen
