Hi everyone
In the light of recent activities on the Heavy Haulage World.
We have all came on here over the past year Said things about different subjects and we have had ago at each other But i have spoken to other escorts in the light of what happen last week ..Very Sad to all involved .. But this is the thing that we all had at the back off our mind on every job we take on WHAT HAPPENS IF THE S**T HITS THE FAN......... This make you step back and look at the job from another angle (i think anyway) Most of us on here and in the other groups like ALEN,and RHA try as much to comply with the H.A. cop In the way we mark our vehicles ,and the items we carry ,how we act Now its coming on 3yrs since the private escorting started the has been a couple small changes in the (cop) since it was first published on very minor subjects .
So what im asking is that we all put in a list what we want to see on the next change to the Highways cop

so if you all leave your coments or i will ask abload or jules to compose a poll on the things we need ,you want
And when we have enough on the list We can approach the H.A. the police and say we want this ........ And we want to no what happens If things go wrong are we going to end up in jail over someone elses driving without due care and attention we all no why we are there and we all try our best This affects all in this Industry So can we Stand together and try and get the change we need ......

P.S. I think this should be sooner rather than later

I personally feel there are too many areas of Law and responsibility which have been "fuzzed" over.

There are issues that need to be clarified, and it is somewhat unfair to all concerned for us to be expected to keep "winging it".

I would welcome some straight talking, and a substantial debate as to how we can improve the situation.

Whether we like it or not, it involves every one of us.

Count me in.

Lets face it there is no way on earth that anything we ask for or put forward as a proposal
Is ever going to happen.
The people who put the cop together all have letters after their name and they aren’t going to listen to us.
What we do is what we do
We aint going to change anything……as long as we do the job to the cop and hope that the DAFT fcuker
Who as just gone flying round the bend behind us stops before he gets to the load…

Ps ….. DAFT fcuker’s don’t just drive cars
Theres more n more driving lgv’s nowadays

I always thought that Colletts had an outstanding website - still can't get any work out of the buggers though!

Just because they have letters after their name dont mean they use/have common sence. (bet half cant change a tyre)
Ok there are only i count ten escort companies on here and all are independant we have to start somewhere get other escort and companies together

What we do is what we do
But we are doing it without any backing I thought that if we were running inside the H.A. cop but we arent
We got this from the police we took over from them and they had the backing We should have what they had
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1st All Escort companies to be vetted by the police
2nd Each driver given a cert
3rd We get the powers to stop and control traffic
4th Use of reds on Motorways when running under 40mph esp in lane two
5th A other Light colour other than amber so we are more distingishable from every other amber user
...........................................................................................................................
If the wombles can get the powers to stop then we should be given them or does this only apply to white collar works

Yes But these people's actions can result in us a visit to court ,loss of licence, even jail

Lord Mason of Barnsley (Labour) | Hansard source

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which accredited companies have been approved to escort abnormal loads on motorways.

Lord Davies of Oldham (Deputy Chief Whip (House of Lords), HM Household) | Hansard source

There is no formal accreditation or approved list for abnormal load escort companies.

Abnormal load escorts operate on motorways and other roads under a voluntary code of practice published by the Highways Agency and supported by the police and the principal haulage industry associations. The code is a statement of best practice designed to ensure that those escorting abnormal loads do so in a manner that maximises safety. A copy has been placed in the Libraries of both Houses.

Lord Mason of Barnsley (Labour) | Hansard source

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many wide load escort agencies are able to operate on the motorways without a police escort; and under which regulations they are permitted to do so.

Lord Davies of Oldham (Deputy Chief Whip (House of Lords), HM Household) | Hansard source

The exact number is not known because there is no specific requirement to register an abnormal load escort company. Abnormal load escorts can operate on motorways and other roads under a voluntary code of practice published by the Highways Agency, endorsed by the police and the haulage industry. There are 106 escort companies currently listed in the Escort Services Directory published by the Road Haulage Association. There will also be some companies operating that are not listed.

I think we would find that Lord Atlee (who is already involved) and Viscount Simon also have an interest in this topic.
