luke moriarty had been back in prosperity, north carolina for about a week. the week back in prosperity only served as a reminder for luke to why he left the town in the first place. prosperity was just
too small of a town. everyone knew everyone else's business which is something that luke never really liked. he especially didn't like everyone knowing his business when he was a child. it seemed like everyone in town knew of the moriarty's marriage troubles when he was younger. luke vaguely remembered how many people in town would ask how his parent's were doing. yeah sure, that seemed like a general enough question to ask, but luke always felt like that particular question had some other meaning to it than just asking how the moriarty family was doing. he had always felt like they were prying information out of him about his parent's latest fight just so that they could tell the whole town about it. luke was already having a terrible time dealing with the fact that his parent's were doomed to fail. he really didn't need the whole town jabbering about it. that would only add more to his distress.

but whether lucas liked it or not, the gossip spread around town about the moriarty family and their dysfunction. luke often believes that the whole town knew about his parent's divorce before he did, but that's probably not true. it seemed like the whole 'gossip chain' thing hadn't changed much since lucas had been away with his dad in california. no one in town had been shocked to see him when he first arrived. they just went on with their daily lives. luke was hardly greeted with the great 'welcome home' that he had wanted. hell, he was hardly greeted with much of a 'welcome home' at all. it really didn't matter that luke hated this place and didn't want to be here. he still thought that he should get the huge 'welcome home, luke' that he so rightfully deserved.

luke was disappointed that he didn't get the welcome home that he wanted, but he still continued on with daily activities just like he had never left. he figured that the fact that he didn't want to be here and obviously wasn't too welcome shouldn't get in his way of trying to enjoy this place. luke decided that morning that he would head over to the beach to enjoy himself. he had been in town for a whole week and had yet to go to the beach, so he figured that it was about time to go. it didn't take long for luke to get ready for the beach. it took about five minutes for luke to get dressed and grab a towel, then he was out the door. the beach was within walking distance of luke's home, but he had to pass through the town square before he got there. luke was passing through the town square when his favorite little cafe caught his eye. that was when luke decided that he was thirsty, so he walked right into the cafe and began to wait in line.

lucas was waiting in line when he felt eyes on the back of his head. it was one of those odd feelings. the one where you knew someone as staring at you, so you had to look. that's why luke looked. luke smirked a little whenever he saw his ex-girlfriend, juliet deveraux, standing a few people back from him in the line.
well, this ought to be interesting. he thought to himself, smugly. once luke received the sweet tea that he had ordered earlier, he backtracked in the line to stand right next to juliet.
"hello jules. wow, i haven't saw you since i left. you're looking good," he said, a light smirk playing on his lips. he took a small sip of his drink before he continued,
"so.. have you missed me? i imagine that you've had some long, sleepless nights." luke knew that he would only get on her nerves by hitting on her in the first place, but he was sure that jules would be pissed that he dared to ask if she missed him.
