PLOT / THREAD DEVELOPMENT
also known as 'shipping,' this is the forum you can come to to talk about and create plots with other members. you just post a little information about your character(s) in a thread and wait for someone to respond with plot ideas. also, don't hesitate to take initiative and respond to others' threads. who doesn't love to plot? this feature definitely is not required, and if you'd rather just let things happen in character, go for it.

CHARACTER EXTRAS
cell phones and aim are great ways for your characters to communicate when there's not enough material for a thread. and journals and albums are a great way for you and others to really know your character in ways they wouldn't if just threading. also, you can keep your character's timeline and/or thread tracker here.

broadway theatre is often considered the highest professional form of theatre in the United States. plays and musicals are staged in one of the 39 larger professional theatres with at least 500 seats, almost all in and around times square. off-broadway theatres feature productions in venues with 100-500 seats. new york city is also known for its eclectic and active music scene.

RETAIL & GROCERY
being one of the fashion capitals of the world, new york city offers a wide array of shopping, from soho, to chinatown, to the upper east side and more. as far as grocery shopping, manhattan does not have any wal marts! basic necessities can be found at what is more of a corner drug store, like a duanne reade or a cvs.

the cultural diversity of new york city allows for many different types of ethnical food. the city is also home of widespread chain resaurants such as starbucks, hard rock cafe, and yes, even mcdonalds.

manhattan has various colleges and universities including columbia university, cooper union, fordham university, the juilliard school, berkeley college, the new school, new york university (nyu) and yeshiva university.

BARS & CLUBS
new york city has a very active night life with many different bars and clubs. recently, "supernatural" clubs have begun to open around the city, accommodating vampires and werewolfs (sometimes together, but most of the time seperately). these clubs only accept humans when in the company of a vampire or werewolf, but many are unsafe for humans anyways.

manhattan offers a wide array of public and private housing options. there were 798,144 housing units in manhattan as of the 2000 census, at an average density of 34,756.7/sq mi. new york city is known for it's high rent, and finding a decent apartment for an affordable price can prove to be difficult, though not entirely impossible.

located northeast of manhattan, the bronx received many irish, german, jewish and italian immigrants as its once-rural population exploded between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. they were succeeded after 1945 by african-americans and hispanic americans, together with immigrants from the caribbean, especially puerto rico, the dominican republic and jamaica. in recent years, this cultural mix has made the bronx a wellspring of both latin music and hip hop.

located in the southwest part of the city, staten island is the least populated of the five boroughs but is the third largest in area. staten island is overall the most suburban of the five boroughs, the north shore, being the most urban part of the island. the south shore has more suburban-style residential neighborhoods and is home to the two and one-half mile long f.d.r. boardwalk.

UPSTATE NEW YORK
there is no clear or official boundary between upstate new york and downstate new york, but the term "upstate" is sometimes used to refer to the whole of the state besides new york city and long island. the region is culturally and economically distinct from the new york city area, the northern upstate area consists of a handful of small and medium-sized cities, with surrounding suburbs, amidst vast rural areas.

any other place not listed above. remember - this rpg is meant to take place in new york city, so don't stray too far from the big apple. it would probably be unreasonable for your character to be in places like los angeles or. . . russia. but places in close proximinty (canada, connecticut, etc.) would be acceptable. this can also be a place for alternate reality threads.
