"That'ssss fiine," He stated simply, not looking.
His golden eyes stared at her. His tongue lashed out, tasting her scent. Something was troubling her. Her thoughts were dark, and her emotions seemed... Scattered. He could taste her emotions, and he'd gotten used to her thoughts. He knew the form form her face took when she was concentrating on something she didn't like. He'd seen it a few times; usually when she was trying to protect him.
He lifted her up bridal style, her form obviously light in his powerful arms. He carried her over to the spot she'd indicated, and coiled up to make a bed before setting her down on top of him. He laid down next to her, a finger coming up to stroke the side of her face. His face was full of concern, and his tongue came out, the tips tickling her lips lightly.
"What'ssss wroong Diiiaa?" He asked softly.

Settling on/in his coils Dia looked over at Nathair as he asked her what was wrong. "I'm just worried about you, that's all. This place...." Dia trailed off as she closed her eyes. The mistress of metals didn't like what she came to admit to mentally but had never said out loud verbally, just physically somewhat.
"It isn't as safe as I once thought it was. When I first came here I was eighteen, then it was attacked, rebuilt, and everything seemed to be okay. Then it was attacked again, again, and I fear that it will be attacked again." Her voice raised a little in rage as her eyes began filling up with tears. "This was supposed to be a haven, this is the only place that accepted me and I...doubt it. I..." She gave way to tears.
Wrapping an arm around him she laid on her side and cuddled closer to him. "I'll be alright, we'll be alright." Though she wanted a place to call home Dia knew she'd be alright even if she didn't have one. As long as she had him. He was what mattered to her.

Nathair wiped away her tears as soon as they came. His soft scales were gentle on her cheeks, and at the corners of her eyes. He didn't like it when she cried, but he also knew it was a normal reaction to stress for smoothskins. Mischa had taught him that. That didn't stop him from disliking it severely. It also didn't stop him from trying to reassure her.
His arms held her as he debated what to say. They may be safe, they may not be safe. He never thought about it, he never worried about it. He was a hunter, a predator, and a wild creature. Safety was never something he'd even been worried about until now. He worried about Dia's safety, just as much as she seemed to worry about his, though he still didn't worry about his own. Strangely though, as long as he was with her, he felt safe. Not because he believed that nothing could harm the two of them, but because they were together. They would do anything for each other, and through that, because of that, he felt safe.
"Wee arre ssssafe," He finally hissed to her, holding her close against him, and stroking his fingers through her hair, "Maayybe not compleeetely. Maaayybe not alwayyssss. Buut togettthhhherr, wee keep each ottthhheer sssssafe. Aallwayyysss..."
With her cuddled against him he couldn't kiss her lips, but that was fine. Instead he kissed the top of her head affectionately. His arms held her close, strong fingers gently rubbing Dia's back. He wanted her close and she was close. He wanted her happy, and he only hoped that was something he could do.

Nathair had a valid point. No matter where they were, what alliance they had, who they knew they would never be completely safe. The only amount of safety they had was each other. Sure any friends would have their backs. That was another thing that even in a mutant versus human or other mutants world there was at least one person willing to have your back even if it was as long as you had theirs.
The twenty three year old just needed to let loose some tears and get it over with. Now that she had she felt better. Dia was a fighter and kept things in until they exploded. Now whether that explosion would barely cause a blade of grass to bend or cause destruction on a grand scale depended on how situations were, who was with her, and how pissed off she was.
Being with Nathair the angry factor wasn't so high, how could she be angry at anything while with him? He calmed her, soothed her, comforted her.

He also claimed her, as he put his lips close to her ear and whispered, "Myyy loove."
Nathair repositioned himself so that if it got cold in the night, Dia could snuggle underneath him and stay warm. He was far more used to the tempatures outside than she was, and his body was well protected against almost anything Mother Nature could throw at him. This new position also offered the advantage of making it so they'd be together no matter how either of them moved in their sleep.
With one he gently stroked her hair and her back, holding her, and waiting for her to fall asleep. Perhaps it was because he was a snake, and therefore didn't technically need to sleep as much as she did, but it seemed like she was usually the one who fell asleep first. Sometimes he did, but since his eyes were always open, he was always aware anyways. So he was instantly awake if she needed him. And he knew she woke up sometimes, and simply watched him sleep.
As he stroked her this time though, he also did something new. He hummed. He couldn't hum like humans did, but he could make his body vibrate in patterns that were simliar to music. So his body vibrated to a song he'd heard playing at the Mansion once called Silent Lucidity. He didn't know the actual name of the song, but he did know that the lyrics made it seem like a lullaby. So he hummed it now, as he continued to stroke Dia.

Dia felt his body vibrate in patterns that were definite. In fact once he got into the song Dia was able to establish the beat and slightly tapped it out with her finger. It's beat was around medium in speed the count being maybe 1,2 but not 1 and 2 or 1,2,3,4. Or maybe it was 1,2,3,4. How could one tell from a two count to a four count when just listening to a song was something she never could grasp an understanding about.
Yet her mind knew he was humming to her to comfort her. Like a mother would a child. But in all her memories in all the stereotypes one mate didn't hum to another. They might sing a song and do a little dance but not stroke the back and hum.
It was strange and to put it frankly Dia didn't know how to react to it. She knew Nathair was just trying to soothe her but felt a little odd. Which was strange for she enjoyed his touch so why couldn't she enjoy his touch with a little vibration? Besides it was like having a free massage....kind of.
What was with the whole 'adult' stereotype anyways? You couldn't enjoy a little song and a gentle stroke because it reminded you too much of when you were a kid? It wasn't as if her childhood was terrible.
"Goodnight my love." Dia, grow up. Dia decided to relax her body and just enjoy him. It was time for a new set of rules and a new set of stereotypes to be made.

"Goodnight acusssshhhhla," He whispered softly, a small smile on his reptilian features, "Ssssweet dreamssss..."
Actually, there were two main reasons he wasn't singing instead. First and foremost, he didn't remember the words, and in reality the exact music. While he wasn't against vocalizing, it was hard to do when really all you remembered was the base of the song. The second one had far more to do with his personal self. He didn't even know if he could sing. He'd never tried. He may have to sometime, but for now he just hummed.
The snake's head rested next to his lady's, and he nuzzled her softly. His hand continued to stroke her back; rubbing it, and massaging it gently. Yes he had sharp claws on the tips, but they never touched Dia. Only the meat of his fingers and the soft snake scales did. He worked on all her tense muscles, making sure she relaxed. He was a tricky snake when he wanted to be. He wanted her to relax, and it seemed to be working.
He kept working his fingers, even after he felt her relax and fall asleep. The golden serpent eyes stared at her for awhile; maybe minuts, possibly hours. Slowly though his fingers stopped rubbing, and he simply held her close. His eyes were open, but his breathing slowed. The snake was asleep, though really, only one who spent time with him when he was sleeping would know. Dia was the only one that did that.
