Daphne first found herself reading in the nearly empty library, trying to study for a test. When she closed her book, she glanced down at her watch and figured it was time for her to go to bed. As she grabbed her backpack, she noticed a large textbook still on one of the reading tables.

Arching a brow, she made her way to the table and opened it. "Kitty Pryde..." She read on the inside cover. "Hmmm..." She shrugged. She figured she had to return the book, the only problem was she was new and wasn't very well acquainted with everyone just yet, much less, she wasn't acquianted with the school as well.

Fortunately, Daphne was able to ask someone where Kitty would be. She was told where Kitty's room was and figured that she would return the book to Kitty before going to her own room. After having made her way out of the library, she marched to Kitty's room and knocked on the door.

The quick rapping of knuckles against the woord door made Kitty snap around with a jolt. She'd been totally lost in her own little world, staring out the window like some daydreamer. Usually, that was not like Kitty at all. She was a nerd. An emotionless brainiac who did everything by the book...well...almost. Lately, her mind fellt like it was split in two and every time she thought she had things all neatly wrapped up in a bow, a small mental image of either Bobby or Peter would totally screw things up inside her head and she found herself..well, daydreaming.

Tugging at the bottom of her hunter green, hooded jacket - the small brunette walked to the door, carefully pulling it open, only to see Daphne, one of the newer students here. She held a book in her hands, and Kitty recognized it right off the bat. She was glad that the girl had wanted to give it back, but Kitty couldn't help but feel a little dejected that it hadn't been someone else at the door. But, it was okay. Kitty smiled toothily and straightened up, brushing a strand of hair from her forehead. "Hey Daph, what's up?" she asked, even if she kind of had an idea of why the girl was here.

Daphne seemed to sense that Kitty was expecting someone but didn't say anything. She was just relieved that she hadn't knocked any later when Kitty would be asleep. She figured she should have kept the book until the morning, she would probably see Kitty the following day anyway. She shrugged. "Not much. I found this while I was studying. You don't seem the type to abandon books on purpose, so I figured you just forgot it or it fell out of your backpack or something."

Daphne handed Kitty the textbook. She wasn't much of a social butterfly and was horrible at making polite conversation. Much to her advantage, she knew she would have to go to bed soon. "Erm...I liked the book cover." She said. She felt like smacking herself. What kind of an idiot would try to make friends by complimenting someone's book covers?

She looked down at her watch. "Whoa, does time always go by so quickly at this school?" She sighed, feeling rather stupid. "I guess I should be going. Do you like to play basketball?" She figured if she played basketball with someone, at least she wouldn't have to talk...

Kit had to smile a little, it was rather endearing how Daphne seemed so uncomfortable and awkward. Kit had been pretty similar when she first came here - Lord knows she kept trying too hard to be liked, and it was especially tough around Rogue since Kitty naturally got long better with Bobby and Rogue had jealosuy issues and...Kit stopped her mind from side-tracking too much. Focus, focus ; she reminded herself and put on a pleasant expression.

"Basketball's okay...I'd probably do better in it if I was taller," chuckled the rather short girl, "cause the guys always squash me when we play it and they poke fun at me cause I'm always picked last," she grinned dorkily and clutched the book to her chest. Stupid boys, always teasing Kitty, asking her to shoot hoops with them when they knew she was way inferior. Oh well, atleast she cuold still kick all their asses with tai-kwan-do.

Daphne smiled, Kitty seemed to be a goof just like her. Daphne didn't normally take to liking people quickly and didn't joke around unless she was around friends. "I'm pretty short too. I could kick their asses in boxing but that's about it. Maybe a weightlifting contest wouldn't hurt either..." She laughed. A small yawn escaped her lips and she looked down at her wrist to check the time. "Oy-vey! It sure is late!" She tapped the watch.

No, it worked in perfect order. "Well, I think it's time I left to go to bed and I don't mean to keep you up any longer, I'm just glad I didn't wake you." She grinned in her chagrin and continued. "How about we play basketball tomorrow? I think we do have basketball courts on this campus, not sure, can't really remember. I get lost too damn easily." She scratched her forehead briefly and yawned again. She certainly didn't hope Kitty wasn't getting the wrong impression that Daphne was getting bored. She was just sleepy.
