ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hi and welcome to Wolfshaw Academy for Magically Gifted!

There is a heatwave passing through South Australia, not to mention the drought; the grounds are mostly dry, with large brown patches marring the large lawns. Easter is approaching, the ban to the local town has been lifted, and the students are becoming more and more frustrated with their principal...

Australia has put together its strongest team in half a century, with players from a diverse range of top-grade teams. Talk of the team is Captain and Chaser, Jess Mattschoss, with early rumours suggesting that she may be picked up by a large European team (the Montrose Magpies are said to be interested), and young Keeper Robert Oden, who has quickly established himself as one of the heartthrobs of the competition.

Name: Oodnadatta Owls, aka the Outback Owls

Based in: A truly rural team, the Oodnadatta Owls are reasonably close to the town of Merianga, but have players from all outback regions of the country.
Robes: Dark ochre red robes with dark green sleeves and trimmings, reflecting outback vegetation.
Logo: Two O's, linked together, with a pair of owl wings stretching behind them.
Mascot: Trevor the Boobook owl

Team

Keeper: Brian Loman - Captain
Chasers: Kazuo Wakahara, Selena Armandson, Tim Murray
Beaters: James and Max Gilmore
Seeker: Shira Jameson

Name: Sydney Phoenix, aka the Sydney Puffskeins (this is mainly used as a derisive name from their rival, the Dandenong Dragons/Dropbears, although many supporters use it affectionately)

Based in: Officially, they are based in Sydney, however, like many other teams, their training grounds are further out, away from population centres (in this case, their grounds are somewhere in the Blue Mountains).
Robes: Blue - pale blue for the body of the robe, dark blue for the trimmings. There is a dark blue triangle shape at the top of the robes, with the shape mirrored at the bottom.
Logo: A stylised phoenix rising out of a circle of flame.
Mascot: Funnily enough, it's a phoenix named Pyrros.

Team

Keeper: Robert 'Robbie' Oden
Chasers: Deanna McClelland - Captain, Lisa Kirby, Aaron Rosenthal
Beaters: Michael Trent, Christian Mauer
Seeker: Stephanie Stidham

Name: Borroloola Boomers

Based in: Based in Borroloola, Northern Territory but the Boomers’ players come from all over NT.
Robes: White with their orange logo on the back; orange floods up the white sleeves as though they’ve been half submerged in dye and the bottom 30cm (a foot) at the back of the robe is the same style - orange dye-dipped.
Logo: An orange kangaroo – a boomer, to be exact – in a boxing stance.
Mascot: Bruce the Boomer was the team’s mascot for years but in 2004 retired to a national park.

Team

Keeper: Eloise Packington
Chasers: Jess Mattschoss – Captain, Hunter Ward, Kylie Adams
Beaters: Joel Martin, Marcus Hopkins
Seeker: Libby Campbell

Name: Wollongong Warriors

Based in: Wollongong, NSW - their training grounds are on the very outskirts, away from Muggle eyes.
Robes: Warriors robes are royal blue with bright yellow trimmings.
Logo: The first Quidditch team established in Australia, the Warriors' robes are emblazoned with the Southern Cross in bright yellow, a looping WW in the top star.
Mascot: N/A

Team

Keeper: Brandon Wilkins - Captain
Chasers: Natasha 'Nat' Wilson, Lewis Yates, Jack Perry
Beaters: Joey Preston, Mason Chiang
Seeker: Kala Burke

Name: Dandenong Dragons, aka the Dandenong Dropbears (this is mainly used as a derisive name from their rival, Sydney Phoenix/Puffskeins, although many supporters use it affectionately)

Based in: The Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, secluded enough to practice.
Robes: Bright blue robes with white trimmings.
Logo: A stylised dragon breathing fire in the form of the letter D.
Mascot: None - a disasterous (and well-known) publicity stunt occured in 1966 when the Dragons attempted to use a real life Antipodean Opaleye as a mascot in a quarter finals against the Barossa Lions. This ended in disaster with the stadium burning to the ground and numerous injuries, although thankfully no fatalities.

Team

Keeper: Evan Dickinson
Chasers: Kayleigh Leach, Daniel Rathwell, Alex Tyler
Beaters: Liam Briggs, Terry Foster
Seeker: Joshua Godfrey - Captain

Name: Townsville Tornados

Based in: Townsville, Queensland, officially - although as it is the only Queensland team, they attract players from all over the state.
Robes: Bright white robes with a diagonal slash from left shoulder to the right hip - above the slash is a maroon right sleeve. Trimmings are maroon and white.
Logo: An image of a Tornado - what else? - with a TT in the middle of it.
Mascot: They once claimed to have a Demiguise as a mascot, but no one's ever seen it and tend to laugh the claim off.

Team

Keeper: Kiera Gibson - Captain
Chasers: Adam Booth, Lara Chapman, Nathan Lowe
Beaters: Owen Saunders, Joel Nelson
Seeker: Luka Hall

Name: Barossa Lions

Based in: While the team has players from Adelaide and the Barossa (and anywhere in between and beyond) it’s based in Rowland Flat, a large area between two towns in the Barossa Valley, Lyndoch and Tanunda. The pitch is about ten minutes off the main road.
Robes: Dark red with double gold stitching around the hem and sleeves with a gold lion on the back.
Logo: Stylised gold lion.
Mascot: None - a lion was considered but thankfully ruled out by people of a more intelligent nature.

Team

Keeper: Steph Heintz - Captain
Chasers: Chris Drever, Brett Darmody, Ryan Hadden
Beaters: Alexandra Solomon, Alexander Searle
Seeker: Felicity Chiverton

- - -

Name: Tassie Devils

Based in: Based in Bay of Fires – rather appropriate considering their name - but their players come from all around the state.
Robes: The main colour is orange but the trimmings and left sleeve are black; a thick black stripe runs down both sides of the robe, from the armpit down to the hem, which a thin black stripe around the very bottom of the robe.
Logo: A cartoon-ish Tasmanian Devil, looking much like the Muggle cartoon character except for being black and with more realistic body proportions.
Mascot: They technically have a mascot but are slightly embarrassed about him; Tweedle-Dee is a Tasmanian Devil that, because of the low numbers of his species, lives in a Hobart zoo. Apart from not being able to take their mascot with them his name is Tweedle-Dee. Enough said, really.

Team

Keeper: Aaron Braham
Chasers: Tari Dillon, Liz Fisher, Max Brody
Beaters: Chris Mortland, Jonathon Castle - Captain
Seeker: Louise Wilde

Name: Gippsland Griffins

Based in: Nearby Bairnsdale, a fairly small town in East Gippsland.
Robes: Dark green with light green trimmings, and their logo on the back.
Logo: A Griffin with light green eyes, holding a quaffle.
Mascot: A lazy domesticated griffin named Kirk.

Team

Keeper: Samuel Jones
Chasers: Rebecca Finch, Jordan Martyn, Alexandra Methings
Beaters: Richard Hart, Lauren Harrison
Seeker: Terrence Xavier - Captain

---

Name: Kalgoorlie Kappas

Based in: Kalgoorlie, WA. North East of Williamstown.
Robes: Black with yellow trim.
Logo: A yellow Kappa with blazing black fire coming from his hands.
Mascot: Well, obviously not a kappa, since they enjoy eating human livers. It used to be an induction ritual that a new member had to go to a lake, find a kappa and kill it. Too many good Quidditch players died that way, and the tradition was put to a stop sometime in the 1970s.

Team

Keeper: Kara Lang
Chasers: Bartholemew Li, Jenny Fields - Captain, Andrea Spark
Beaters: Kifford Carp, Peter Moor
Seeker: Darius Dafford

---

Name: Thundelarra Thunderers

Based in: The Kimberly, North WA. West of Doon Doon.
Robes: Yellow, with green trim and a lightning strike diagonally across the chest. The parts above the lightning strike are green.
Logo: A dark cloud in a green circle, that will occasionally shoot a flash of lightning.
Mascot: While not exactly a mascot, their name comes from their reputation of bringing stormy weather with them wherever they play.

Team

Keeper: Michaela McCOrmack
Chasers: Karen Tooley, Charles Harris, Tess Madden
Beaters: Maisie Forbes, Graham Macallister
Seeker: Hamish Orly - Captain.

Name: Riverina Rangers

Based in: The Riverina region of New South Wales. Their training grounds are somewhere between Narrandera and Griffith.
Robes: Medium brown with electric blue trimmings and a fetching striped pattern.
Logo: Not the most inspiring of logos, it's a double RR printed over an image of a quaffle.
Mascot: ...An echidna, regretfully. His name is Tinkles. As mascots go, he's kind of unimpressive.

Team

Keeper: Daniel Fawcett
Chasers: Stacey Hallman - Captain, Jackie McClelland (sister of Deanna McClelland of Sydney Phoenix), Sean Brewster
Beaters: Alex Donnally, Frank Harris
Seeker: Stephen Lyall
