Hair: Waist-length, wavy and of the darkest chocolate brown, Kara's hair is in a low ponytail when she's working and down when she's not.
Physical Description: Kara is tanned very gently, and has a scattering of freckle across the bridge of her nose. She's thin and delicate-looking, with long legs and a heart-shaped face. She's very pretty, with small hands and an almost-flat chest.

Personality: Kara's strong-willed, optimistic and friendly, yet fiercely independent. She radiates energy and warmth, and puts people at ease immediately. She rarely stays with one thing long: her job at Hocus Pocus is the longest thing she's ever stuck with. She makes a lot of plans which she fully intends to carry through one day soon. Her words, however, can sting when she lashes out, though (luckily) that is a rare thing.

History: Kara's parents divorced when she was seven – her father was a wizard and when her mother found out she went berserk and got a divorce. She wanted to take Kara with her, but Kara was showing signs of magic, so she was left with her father. Kara saw her for a weekend every holiday, and a week in the summer.

Kara went through Wolfshaw wanting grand things and made big plans for her life. But when she left school, it occurred to her that she had to get some money before she could travel the world. So she applied for a job at Hocus Pocus, mainly because she had been good friends with Lynn when she was at school, and knew that she could get good pay there. She now lives just down the road from Hocus Pocus.

Kara does plan to leave Merianga, though, and is saving every knut to get her there.

Family: Kara lived with her father, Joseph, a 52-year-old journalist for The Daily Atlas (the Australian wizarding newspaper), while her mother, 47-year-old Olivia Howe, works as a secretary for a lawyer. She has no siblings.

Pet(s): A 5-year-old female cat, Calypso, who is snow-white except for three black spots on her stomach.

Height: 173 cm / 5'7"
Weight: 77 kg / 169 lbs
Eyes: Hazel, close-set
Hair: Short and such a dark blond that it's almost brown, Smiles' hair is usually gelled into spikes.
Physical Description: A little short for his age, but well-built, Smiles is deeply tanned and has long limbs – he's a classic surfy type. His muscles are very well defined and he has some freckles on his arms and the occasional one on his face.

Personality: Smiles is the friendliest person you could ever meet: the smile is never wiped off his face (as his nickname portrays), and has a great sense of humour. He's warm and caring and has perfected the art of listening. He's outgoing, playful and smart, and you can't help but like him. He's very into sport, especially surfing. He has virtually no temper to speak of, though some people are sure it's there somewhere.

History: The first Squib in a long line of wizards, Smiles was shunned by his family when he was a child. They eventually accepted him, but he never felt quite as wanted as his brothers. When he was fourteen he ran away from his home in Perth to the Gold Coast. His family never came looking for him.

He learnt to surf and made some great friends. He had a part-time job as a surf-instructor, but really wanted to travel. None of his friends knew about his blood line, and he was intensely curious about the wizarding lifestyle. So he came to South Australia, and heard about a mostly wizard populated town near a magic school. So he went there and made friends with Lynn. She hired him to work in Hocus Pocus and he made friends with a lot of the students that came in.

To this day he's happy and loving working with Lynn and Kara.

Family: His real family consists of his father Miles, his mother Loraine, and two brothers, Samuel and Gregory.
Pet(s): Smiles has a female Maltese puppy, Jeshabelle, or Jesh for short.
Extras: Smiles lives on the other side of town to the pub, so he walks to work each day. He treasures Jesh, and also his surfboard, which he keeps in his living room.

Height: 152 cm with heels / 4'9"

Hair: Light brown with natural blonde highlights, Lynn's hair is very short and styled in a sophisticated manner.
Physical Description: Though short and rather squat, Lynn is an imposing person. She always wears high heels – it makes her that little bit taller. Her skin is starting to wrinkle, though not severely, and she has a few age spots on her arms. She also has a terrific and contagious smile.

Personality: She gets along well with people, but isn't a person to cross when she's in a bad mood. Generally friendly and a naturally born leader, Lynn can be argumentative, but delights in helping others and is very concerned by nature. Lynn acts a lot like a mother to the students that come into her pub, as well as taking care of Kara when she can. She's incredibly perceptive and intelligent, and plays mother hen quite often.

History: Lynn was born in Holland and her whole family is Dutch. She only has a slight accent, though. Her family moved to Australia when she was twelve and she attended Wolfshaw from then on.

She met a boy at school named Michael Richmond, and they fell in love in sixth-year. When they were a few years out of school, they wed, but it didn't last long; a few years later she was single again, but not looking for a boyfriend. Then she found out she was pregnant. Michael wouldn't come back, so Lynn raised Wendy on her own.

Lynn married again a few years later and had her second child, William, with her new husband. But Jeff passed away from pneumonia when William was only a few years old. William now attends Wolfshaw, but he's a day-boarder: he comes home every night. Wendy has now left school and living in Adelaide.

Family: Lynn's mother, Elaine, is still living and well, at 78, and her father, Augustus, is retired and happily living with Elaine at 79. She has no siblings, but two children: Wendy (25) and William (18).

Extras: Lynn and William live in the house right next to the pub. Lynn's most treasured possessions are her children, obviously. After them, Hocus Pocus.
