Title: Aargh....the downtime thread.

vaio - November 22, 2009 01:58 PM (GMT)
Ugh what a day.

For the first time I found my trusty fastest rig doing nothing.
Musta rebooted and was locked up on the loading screen....it had also reset itself to stock.

Been that way since 6am.....ugh,almost 8 hours burning electric doing nothing

Also, my media rig has been off 24 hours.
When I went to turn it on today HDMI wasn't working and Windows said "missing or corrupt file".

I think having a gpu in there then removing it to revert back to onboard confused it.

Stupid thing.....did what Windows said but that didn't work.
Somehow seem to have got it going again anyway.

Got into windows and removed unnecessary gpu drivers.

Problem is with my main rigs that I need to close the dining room door overnight (fire risk etc) but that means major warmth buildup in there with four rigs on the go.

No window I can leave open to let some air in.

When the girls have finished school I think I may look for a bungalow to rent, preferably with a nice big basement to keep rigs in.

So I apologise in advance for any crap stats I put out over the next few days with rigs acting up.

Need to find a better cooling scenario somehow.
P.S.....Dreading the electric bill....me thinks "she who must be obeyed is gonna freak!!!

Don't feel bad, we do what we can and we all know stuff happens..

I found a roundabout answer to SWMBO when I get the bill. The answer is about the same as last time. After all, it is I who pays the bills.... angel

Due to my ever increasing bills I am afraid I will be retiring another 2 cores.
At least until I get a second job.

I am a rig down for a while.......hard disc

Also going to redo my server.....needs more storage so I have a plan for that.

vaio - December 20, 2009 10:40 AM (GMT)
Rig sorted and crunching again. :)
Server will have to wait a little longer.

Ugh nightmare day.

Came home from work to find both of my fastest rigs down.
Now I have just found my gpu cruncher with a shedload of graphics corruption and a failed work unit.

All this on a stock gpu!!!

Also, stupid boinc manager says "reached daily quota of 9 work units".....when

1: it is only set for two yet only ever gets one and

2: Right now it has none.

Stupid thing!!!

Can only assume I had a bad work unit cos the gpu has been fine since I got it.....argh angry.

TLD - December 23, 2009 08:37 PM (GMT)
Sounds like you had 9 bad WUs in a row, that what happened to me a while back.

Have you upgraded to the new Nvida driver yet, i just traded two cards around and up graded to the new 195 driver Tuesday hope there's no problem with it.

vaio - December 24, 2009 05:02 PM (GMT)
Good to know it was bad work units and not my hardware......got new work today and seems ok so far.

I tested my rig on folding overnight and it ran ok so have that there as a backup :)

vaio - December 28, 2009 09:15 AM (GMT)
All my machines off for 13 hours overnight........shut them down due to 3 power spikes.
Lost a few hundred hours work too it seems.

Meh.

Hope the power is stable today.

TLD - December 28, 2009 10:09 PM (GMT)
Better to lose a few hours work then computers. ;)

vaio - December 30, 2009 11:03 AM (GMT)
Indeed............it screwed up two of them but I think they are sorted now.

Don't think I will be adding any firepower in 2010........time to start paying my debts.
But I have added a decent bit this year.....just getting the last one up to speed as I type :)

vaio - December 31, 2009 05:48 PM (GMT)
Another dead hard disc.
3 in a 6 month period!!

This one due to bent pins~straightened them out but bios not seeing it.

This added expense is a pain but slowly getting away from IDE.
After this replacement I will be pretty much all Sata.

Shame I don't have a spare disc here....oh well....gives the electric bill a break for a few days.

Work time..........I get a 14 hour night shift to see the new year in with
