History: During their time in the Academy, Ino came to befriend Sakura Haruno, an unpopular girl whose large forehead constantly earned her a teasing from other girls. By giving Sakura a ribbon, Ino was able to help Sakura overcome her phobia about her forehead, and in time helped Sakura develop her own identity and self-worth. As Sakura's confidence in herself grew, she developed a crush on Sasuke Uchiha, who Ino also had a crush on. When Sakura found out about this, she ended their friendship so that the two could properly compete for Sasuke's affection, beginning a bitter rivalry between the two.

During the second phase of the Chunin Exams, Ino and her teammates look for a team weak enough for them to ambush. As they search, they find Sakura fighting a losing battle with a team of Sound Genin. When Sakura cuts her hair to escape from Kin Tsuchi's grasp, Ino is spurred into action, realizing that Sakura must be in trouble if she's willing to cut her hair. After forcing Shikamaru and Choji to join her in battle, Ino uses her Mind Body Switch Technique to take control of Kin's body so that she can force a surrender. When Kin's teammates attack Ino in Kin's body without hesitation, it becomes clear that ending the battle won't be that simple. After Sasuke Uchiha awakens, Ino and her team flee the battle so that Sasuke can take care of the Sound Genin.

In the preliminary matches of the exam, Ino is pitted against Sakura. After Sakura and Ino exchange insults, Ino follows Sakura's earlier example and cuts her hair, leading many onlookers to believe that she's lost her mind. In actuality, Ino cut her hair to help her in battle; by sending chakra into her cut hair, Ino is able to tie Sakura in place, allowing her slow moving Mind Body Switch Technique to have no difficulties in finding its target. After taking control of Sakura's body, Ino tries to force Sakura to forfeit, though Sakura's inner personality stops Ino before she can do so. With both girls exhausted from the amount of effort they've been putting into their fight, Ino and Sakura charge at each other to deal final blows. Striking each other simultaneously, both are knocked out, leading to a draw. As the two recover, Ino and Sakura begin to rekindle their friendship.

Ino makes her Part II debut in a sleeveless button-up top and short skirt. She has apparently done away with the full-body bandages she previously wore and has also grown her hair long once again. She doesn't wear her ninja headband around her waist anymore as she previously did. It is either hidden or she has decided to stop wearing it. Like most of her fellow Genin, Ino has become a Chunin during the timeskip. Ino has also trained to be a medical ninja, like Sakura.

The three Chuunin's where at a resturant having lunch. Or in Chouji's case, a buffet. He had already 20 ribs, while Ino and Shikamaru where still on their 1st. Ino layed back on her chair. "I'm full..." She said. Shikamaru nodded. "Yeah..."

Chouji burped. "Whoops. Well, I'm not." He stuffed his face a little more. Ino shook her head. "Baka..." She muttered.

Chouji turned to her. "Huh? You say something Ino-chan?"

She glared. "No..."

Shikamaru sighed. "We haven't had a mission in such a long time...it's so troublesome..." Ino looked at him.
"Hai. We haven't had a mission since 2 weeks ago. Even that feels so long." She agreed.

Chouji burped once more. "Now I'm full..." Ino just glared at him. 25 plates were piled up near him. The waitress came to their table. "Here's the bill." She said politely. Ino smiled sweetly as she took it. The female gasped.

Shikamaru raised a brow. "Huh? Ino? What?" He asked. Ino handed him the bill. She slapped her forehead.

Ino turned to Chouji. "Baka!!! We have to pay so much!!!" She shouted.

Shikamaru shook his head. "Now, Ino-chan, it can't be that--" He looked at the total. "Oh my god!!!" He gasped. "Chouji!!!"

Their teammate slowly went down in his chair. "Sorry..."

Shikamaru and Ino sighed. "How are we supposed to pay off that much?" Ino asked.

Chouji thought. "Um....well...you can pay it off with your money. Like you always do." Ino grabbed him by the collar. "No, Chouji-baka! You're gonna pay it off!!"

Shikamaru nodded. "With all of your money!!"

Chouji whimpered. "But, Shikamaru-chan! You said it was on you guys!!"

Shikamaru shook his head. "True, until you ran up a huge bill!!" The waitress came over. She smiled. "Any problems over here?" She asked.

Ino and Shikamaru shook their heads in unison. "No, no problem at all." Ino said. Shikamaru smiled slyly. "Our friend here's gonna pay, so we'll be off now." The smiled. "Bye Chouji!"

The two Chuunin's walked out of the restaurant and waited for their teammate out side. Inside, CHouij was sweating. "Lady...um...I-uh, don't have enough money--" He said but the waitress cut him off.

"Not enough?!" She asked while yelling. The lady got a broom, and threatened to hit him. "Not enough??!!"

Chouji ran. "Gah! Lady! Wait!"

She ran after him hitting the back of his feet, slowly catching up to him. "Baka!! You're not welcome here!!"

Ino and Shikamaru heard it outside. They started laughing hysterically. They soon noticed a huge shadow was cast upon them. The two turned aorund slowly. When they saw who it was, the two ninjas trembled. "Uh..."

"And you two!! You gotta pay the price aswell!" She demanded. Ino and Shikamaru stepped back a bit. "Run!!!!" Shikamaru yelled. They ran off having the waitress almost right behind them. "Get back here!!!"
