I just thought I'd share the format for a trail 40k game Dave and myself played on Saturday. It was a simple consept and surprisingly fun to play.

Board was set up on normal size table.
Set up an enclosed area in the center of the board to defend in and then one set of woods and one hill in two other corners.
Enclosed area should be approximately 18" from edges and offers 4+ cover save (may also include rockface)

Defenders receive 1000pts on start.
Attackers 200 pts per round

Play is as follows.
Attacker. Roll D4 to determine which edge force arrives
Round 1. Attackers are unable to run or assault
Roll D4 each round to see where 200pts of reinforcements arrive

Round 5. Roll D4 to determine edge
Attacker receives 500pts

Round 10. Roll D4 to determine edge
Attacker receives 500pts

Attacker then receives a further 500pts every 5 rounds.

The only extra rules are really to field as much as possible each round and to attack rather than sit and gather forces.
Left over points between rounds carry over.

Eldar vs Ork was pretty even. We stopped after 15 rounds and the could easily have gone a lot further. It's a nice way to try out models you maybe don't use that often.

I'm guessing by the name of the thread that the mission objectives for this is just to destroy your opponent and no fancy critical points or anything like that.

But it does look fun as I have learnt that sometimes a simple format to a 40k mission can make it more fun.

yup, it was just to see how many turns the defenders could last. After 15 rounds we called it a night and it was still pretty much a draw.

Good fun but takes a long time

It was good.
Trying something differant like this is definately a good way of injecting some fun back into the game.

You can also learn alot about unit tactics , since you can bring whatever you want to the fight each turn.

(btw it's the defender that gets 500pts every 5 turns not the attacker biggrin.gif )

I used a farseer for the very first time ( after over a hundred games!!)
And finally got to see how useful they are.
And since everyone who has faught me in the past knows i tend to go with a shooty army. Well in this game i learned how effective assault troops could be
( especially when the target is doomed by my farseer and the assault troops have guide......scary , re-rolls to hit and to wound!)

well worth a go!

Yeah he was great.
This game was a little similar to the campaign suggested in the general thread but just over a single day.

Not sure it would work on a club night though
