A kind of explanation, ST! if you wish

[Vespertine]

(we see Devon walking quite fast towards his locker room in the hallway and fuming at the exchange he just had with Thomas.)

Devon (thinking to himself) I’m getting nowhere. I should quit. But I’m not quitter.

(suddenly we hear light footsteps come up behind him and he whirls and puts up his hands in self defense. He puts them down again but remains rigid. The camera pans around and we see that it is Vespertine.)

V: Devon, I. I don’t know what to say. I’m very flattered you see me that way. I want to apologize. I- I don’t know how to say this. Thomas, is a very vengeful man. I don’t want you to get hurt in the process of me getting my career back on track. You see I approached him a few weeks ago asking for my job back here in WCW. You remember at Exile when Hayes “accepted” my resignation letter. Well Hayes is gone so I wanted to come back. But the price for me coming back was selling my soul to the devil so to speak. In exchange for the Women’s Title and a World Heavyweight Title shot Thomas wants me to do everything in my power to please him whenever he wants it.

(Devon just scowls)

Devon: And you let him do that to you? Aren’t you worried about your reputation?

V: Devon, it’s not like that. I had no other choice for one. But we all know Thomas’ very particular tastes and how much of lech he can be. Now, as everyone else but you knows I’m a nymph which is good and bad in a way. Good for me, bad for him. I can cater to Thomas’s “tastes”, that isn’t a problem.. I can help him with all his “needs”. But my cravings must be equally slated. I have more needs and my cravings are all the time. He hasn’t done a thing to help me with my needs and when he does he just can’t “keep up” with me.

Devon (scowls again at her) So you’re a slut. And your Thomas’ slut.

V: Devon! It’s not like that.

Devon: What are you talking about? It sounds exactly like that!

V: No, I have my pride and my integrity but my career is more important. We signed this contract weeks ago when WCW was just starting back up. I know I should never get into a contract with Thomas but he has been good to me in the past. He has helped me, he has defended me, he has done a lot for me. All he ever asked in the past was my loyalty which I readily gave to him. Now, it seems, he wants so much more. You see I have no choice in the matter. Just like you. WCW has always been my home and it’s a home I’m always glad to come back too.

(he starts to turn scowling even more now. She stops him again.)

V: Would it help if I said I- we- haven’t done anything. And I mean ANYTHING yet. He hasn’t touched me, he hasn’t penetrated me. He hasn’t done anything to me. Not that I want him too but he just seems so busy.

(she stands there looking him up and down)

V: I might have an idea on how this can be arranged. Do you care to hear me out?


(she looks at Devon awaiting an answer)

[Devin Dawson]

Devin looks interested.

Dawson: I came here to make a name for myself. To prove that I wasn't just some no-named jobber. Sure, I've had some good wins . . . but not enought to set me appart. So . . .

Vespertine smiles.

Dawson: . . . I'm game. What were you thinking?

[Vespertine]

(she smiles as she explains what they should do.)

V: You want to get into a high profile match, right?

(he shakes his head emphatically)

V: I want good competition and I think I sense that in you. I can tell you are a good competitor, am I right?

(again, he shakes his head emphatically)

V: I have a stipulation in mind but in order to do this you must agree to everything you hear. I’ll admit it’ll be along the lines of David vs. Goliath with Thomas being the Goliath and I’ll understand if you don’t want to undertake it but hear me out.

(she looks at him to see if he is actually listening to her.)

V: You want some eye candy and while I hate to admit it, I want to get out my contract with Thomas. I know you are just starting out but I see potential in you. You lost one manager to Thomas, it would be unfair to have that happen again. But he isn’t satisfying me like I thought he would be. (she runs a finger over his chest) I bet you could satisfy me better than he could, couldn’t you?

(he nods his head even more emphatically and smiles as he does so)

V: Ok good. Now, to do this. You have to challenge Thomas…for my contract. It’s too late to do it this Turbo tomorrow. But maybe next week. You go into Thomas and declare that you want me all to yourself and you are willing to fight for me. If I know Thomas, and I think I do, he likes underdogs like that. He’ll be all for the idea. So you name the type of match and you name the stipulation. Are we ok so far?

(he nods slowly but surely)

V: Now Thomas will come back with a better offer. Of course, he’ll name when but there’ll be no worries about that. Now here is the tricky part: he can wrestle I’ve seen him do it before. He isn’t that good though and he has my contract which means he can basically tell me to do anything I want. He’ll come back that you will have to fight me for the contract. I’m willing to do that. Are you? So….the contract is in a briefcase and let’s say we are in a ladder match. Whoever wins the match gets my contract. If you win, you get it. If I win, I have to stay with Thomas. Now in order for this to be a good match, tomorrow at Turbo, I want you to win and win at all costs. Show me you are what you say you are.

Devon: Um…..but what about him telling I should throw the match.

V: Don’t listen to that. He only said that to make things interesting and keep you down. He said that to see your reaction and how well you go “against” authority. You left the ring grumbling which shows to him that you aren’t serious enough to stand up to authority therefore you are only a mid carder. However, I guarantee you that if you put in a good show with an actual win over me tomorrow at Turbo, you’ll raise your level of importance in his eyes and in my eyes, I know that my gamble on you paid off.

Devon: What if I don’t win?

V: Well, all I can say is: try your hardest. Go to a level that you have never been before. Bring your intensity up a notch. I’m sure you can do it. When I feel it in a person, I can usually tell whether they are trying their hardest or faking it. Don’t disappoint me and fake it ok because faking it tells me you really aren’t serious about this? Got it?

D: (he nods)

V: As I see it, whether you win or lose, good things can come out of it.

D: Oh really? Like what.

V: You win, you get me. You lose, it’s the makings of a start of a good feud. It’s time I feuded with someone else besides Nightelf. Thomas will see the potential for that and will want to nurse the feud to life and make it a big one. Which I’m all for.

(she stops and pauses and looks to see if he is listening.)

V: The only thing I ask of you if you defeat me for my contract is: I’m not arm candy for anybody. I want to get out there and DO something. I’ll manage yes, I guess, but I’ll also offer this as well: in that tag team tournament for the tag team titles coming up, I noticed you don’t have a partner. I want to be more and do more than just be eye candy for someone. Granted, I look sexy and good on your arm but believe me, I can do so much more for you if we are equals, paartners. That being the case, if you want one, I’ll be your tag team partner for the tag team tournament. I have held it once before. I want it again. I haven’t found anybody who wanted to stick around long enough to go through the process but I believe you are willing to do that.

(she looks at him somberly for a moment and he stares back at her)

V: What do you say? Are we agreed on this?

(she holds out her hand to him and waits to see if they are on the same page and he shakes it)
