Title: History of Ultras Rapid
Description: Ultra-group
UltrasTifosi - March 25, 2005 10:43 PM (GMT)
We write February 1st 1988. An important date for the fan scene of Hütteldorf (=borough of Vienna). This day the Ultras Rapid Vienna were born. Today we are by far the most active and most creative fan club of the SK RAPID VIENNA concerning "choreographies" (banners, bengal lights,...). And this was our aim: to support our team by great ideas and enthusiasm.
The time when the UR were founded, the SK Rapid experienced rather hard times. Also the UR members were not too satisfied with the progress of their club. In search of new ideas, one drove to Italy where several Ultrā-groupings were already being around for years. They offered unbelievably fantastic choreographies and of course the UR Vienna wanted to follow suit. But it should take another 2 years until the first ideas became reality.
In 1990 we dared our first support by "sheets of paper" in a match versus Austria Vienna, our city rival. It was met with very good reactions - we had made ourselves a name and seemed to be on the right way.
By the way, Hoppers who would like to admire our choreographies should come and meet us at matches versus Austria Wien, Sturm Graz and Salzburg. In these games we are almost always succesful in realizing nice ideas. At Away Games we mostly use Bengal lights and other kinds of fireworks.
In the course of the years our ideas were becoming better and ever more sophisticated (see picture gallery).
But if there is something going on within the SK Rapid we do not agree with, we wonīt hesitate to express our opinion. The match versus Innsbruck is a case in point: no choreography, no banners, no cheers for the team. Only one banner saying: "We can save too". We really go in for our team and don't want to accept everything.
So far we have not mentioned our symbol yet - the Indian. We were looking for something that should be neither stolen nor brutal or trashy. Finally a tattoo designer drew the Indian for us - it was exactly what we wanted and suited us well. Since then the Indian has decorated our fan club articles. With these articles and membership fees we manage to finance our choreographies. Every now and then we create "For members only"-fan articles.
Apart from the trips to Away-Games we organize member meetings at irregular intervals. From time to time we are pleased to welcome players of the SK Rapid at these meetings.
We cultivate fan friendships to the Ultras Unione Venice Mestre, Gate 13 and the Blue Vikings 1860 Munich. We also maintain close contacts to UTC Sampdoria, Ultras Marseille, Ferencvaros Budapest, C.U.N.V. Gladbach, 1. FC Nürnberg and Schalke 04.
At the beginning (after the first choreographies) we were about 170 members, among them also some hooligans. However, they soon separated from us again, they didn't seem to agree with our way. Today we count about 100 members, the hard core comprises about 30 people.
It was not always easy for us and we also had to face problems (restructuring within the group, other fan clubs,...). But for more than a decade we have gone a way which we all could agree on. And we'd like it to remain like this in future.

I belong to CASUAL CREW, it is a sub group from "FRENTE RADICAL VERDIBLANCO" of the "CLUB DEPORTIVO CALI"
You style is just awesome, ULTRAS RAPID. Here in Colombia we are trying to follow the european style with the chants and the tifoS. Here the most influence comes from Argentina but the group which I belong is trying to change that. Thus, ULTRAS RAPID is an exemple to follow, besides, we've got the same colours, the GREEN AND WHITE.
I'd would like to talk with some members of ultras rapid for learn how is the ultra scene.
My mail is casual.crew.bucaramanga@hotmail.com and the website is www.ultrasbucaramanga.tk, although the site is in SPANISH.
Greetings mates.

Their displays are not original just because they use red and blue stripes in their flags and banners?
I wouldn't think so... :dont

red and blue were the ancient colours of the club. in 1898 the foundet as "First austrian workers club", but they were not successfully (14 games played, 14 games lost) so they changed in 1899 the name into rapid vienna and the colours. so they use the histroric colours in their flags and banners. but yes, originally they had the idea from sampdoria, cause in the early 90s the capos of UR were several times there.
a little bit different the history of their rivals austria vienna. the former club were the "vienna cricket and football club 1892, the football section was founded 1894 (- six hours after the "FIRST VIENNA FOOTBALL CLUB" which is the oldest club in austria -), with the colours black and blue and in october 1910 the players of their first team left the club and founded a new one: the "vienna amateur sportclub (WAS)". they searched a colour nearly the old ones and used violet. in 1925 austrian football becäme professionals (the first country after the u.k.) and so they changed the name into "austria vienna". so in the late 90s, austria viennas away dresses were black and blue.
the "vienna cricket and football club" still exists, but not in football. they played tennis and other sports. their stadium is nearby the praterstadion.
the oldest club in austria is the first vienna football club, shortyl as vienna known, founded in 1894, six hours before their rivals from the cricketer. english worker of the family rothschild got a footballground from the rothschilds for playing. as the colour of the family rothschild is yellow blue, the vienna use this colours since then. from 1894 until 1929 they played in a small stadium. after then, the went to the "hohe warte" which was the largest stadium in austria and on the country, one game there were about 100.00 people in it. until 1932 all national games were played in this stadium, after then in the prater stadion, which was opened in 1932. the maximum capacity of it was 96.000 people after the second world war. today both stadium exists, but the hohe warte was in bad condition and the prater stadium only takes 50.000 people (but its enough).

we are not talking about some colours... so what has this all to do with their tifo style? nobody asked about the club history. doesnīt depend on colours, they copied the stripe style from genova..

One of the best groups of Europe, and also one of the most original groups doing tifos, I don't know how anyone can say that Ultras Rapid or the ultras of Block West copies the italian style, EVERYONE have copied the italian style because without Italy the ultra world wouldn't existed.
When you talk about the ultras of Rapid Wien you can only say one word:
Respect

that is nonsense..
croatian torcida used flares and corteos long before italy!
they have good tifo, but rapid is hybrid style between sampdoria and some new improvements..
