PAKISTAN: FATHER MURDERS HIS SIX DAUGHTERS IN "HONOR" KILLINGS - 5 August, 2011

In one of the most shocking cases of honor killing in recent memory, a man in Pakistan murdered six of his daughters after he suspected that two of them were having sexual relations with older boys in their neighborhood.

Arif Mubashir, 40, shot all six teenaged girls after his son informed him that two of them were dating boys who attended college in Faisalabad, in the province of Punjab.

The two girls he suspected of carrying affairs were named Sameena, aged 14, and Razia, aged 16.

Mubashir admitted to the killings, explaining to the police that his daughters were “without honour.”

He said he also killed the other four girls because they had “sided with each other.”

Reportedly, Mubashir’s wife, Musarrat, who witnessed the murders, had called the police.

Mubashir is under police custody.

"He does not regret what he did. He boasted that he would do it all over again if he had to," Inspector Sial was quoted as saying.

PAKISTAN: CHRISTIAN MAN BURNED ALIVE, HIS WIFE WAS RAPED FOR REJECTING ISLAM BY THE POLICE - 20 March, 2010

A Christian man was fighting for his life in Pakistan's Punjab province Saturday, March 20, after Muslim leaders backed by police burned him alive for refusing to convert to Islam, while his wife was raped by police officers, Christian and hospital sources familiar with the case told BosNewsLife.

Arshed Masih was burned Friday, March 19, in front of a police station in the city of Rawalpindi near Pakistan's capital Islamabad, following apparent death threats from his Muslim employer Sheikh Mohammad Sultan, an influential businessman, and religious leaders, said the Rawalpindi Holy Family Hospital.

His wife, Martha Arshed, was allegedly raped by police officers. Their three children -- ranging in age from 7 to 12-- were reportedly forced to witness the attacks against their parents.

"Both [Masih] and wife were rushed to the Holy Family Hospital and are under treatment," the hospital said.

He was listed in serious condition with about 80 percent of his body burned.

AFGHANISTAN: 97 SCHOOL GIRLS POISONED BY ISLAMISTS - 27 May, 2012

At least 97 students of the Bashirabad girls’ high school in the northern province of Takhar were poisoned on Saturday, officials said.

Seven schoolgirls are in critical condition while the rest were discharged from hospital after treatment, Public Health Director Habibullah Rostaqi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Education Director Abdul Wahab Zafari said most of the 8th grade and 10th grade students were victims to Saturday’s poisoning.

With the latest case, the number of poisoned school girls over the past one month had reached 400, he said.

PAKISTAN: TWO CHILDREN KILLED IN TALIBAN BOMBINGS - 21 June 2012

PESHAWAR, Islamabad – A Pakistani police officer says that two children have been killed by an explosion at a Sunni shrine in Peshawar as dozens of people gathered there.

Zafar Khan said a bomb attached to a cart pulled by a donkey exploded as people visited the shrine Thursday evening.

Women and children made up most of the crowd.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. Taliban militants have often targeted such shrines in the past because they consider them a form of idol worship that is forbidden in their strict interpretation of Islam.

MALI: 18-YEAR OLD PREGNANT GIRL AND HER BOYFRIEND LASHED 100 TIMES, FOR NOT MARRYING EACH OTHER - 21 June 2012

An 18-year-old pregnant woman and her boyfriend were both lashed 100 times by Islamists in Timbuktu in Mali as punishment for "having a child out of wedlock".
The sentence was carried out on the orders of Ansar Dine, a militant Muslim organisation that has seized territory in the desert north of the West African country.

"People were watching it was like a show," said Mohamed Ould Babby, a local official.

"I was there, I saw the youths arriving at the square, I saw them being whipped, it is the first time I have seen something like that." The woman, who was three months pregnant, has another child with her partner but the couple is not married.

According to Ansar Dine's strict interpretation of Islamic laws, that means the pair have committed the crime of "fornication", which is punishable with 100 lashes.

An Islamic police official in the town said six other women who had had children outside of marriage would soon be "punished by Islamic law".

People living in Timbuktu, the ancient city in Mali's southern Sahara desert, have reported that the Islamists have ordered women to wear full veils, whipped smokers and destroyed shopkeepers' stocks of cigarettes....

IRAN: TEENAGERS PUBLICLY WHIPPED FOR DRINKING ALCOHOL - 25 May 2012

The clip, uploaded by members of the Iranian opposition, shows a young many lying on his stomach in a city square and being whipped at least 20 times by a masked man.

To the side stands another man, a cleric, who appears to be instructing the flogger on how to carry out the punishment. Dozens of locals are seen looking on.

The user who published the clip said that it was filmed last Sunday in the village of Miane in northwest Iran. Witnesses said the young man had been arrested for allegedly drinking alcohol.

Public flogging is a punishment given not only for drinking, but also for other violations of Sharia law. Last year, Iranian student Fayman Aaraf was flogged for insulting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a letter he sent from prison. In Aaraf's case, he was not publicly whipped – although his wife and a number of legal officials from Tehran were present.

EGYPT: COPTIC CHRISTIAN 17-YEAR OLD STUDENT MURDERED IN CLASS ROOM FOR WEARING CRUCIFIX - 17 October 2010

Ayman Nabil Labib was murdered on October 16, in "cold blood because he refused to take off his crucifix as ordered by his Muslim teacher." Nabil Labib, the father, said in a taped video interview with Copts United NGO, that his son had a cross tattooed on his wrist as per Coptic tradition, as well as another cross which he wore under his clothes.

Both parents confirmed that Ayman's classmates, who were present during the assault and whom they met at the hospital and during the funeral, said that while Ayman was in the classroom he was told to cover up his tattooed wrist cross. He refused and defiantly got out the second cross which he wore under his shirt. "The teacher nearly chocked by son and some Muslim students joined in the beating," said his mother.

According to Ayman's father, eyewitnesses told him that his son was not beaten up in the school yard as per the official story, but in the classroom. "They beat my son so much in the classroom that he fled to the lavatory on the ground floor, but they followed him and continued their assault. When one of the supervisors took him to his room, Ayman was still breathing. The ambulance transported him from there dead, one hour later."

UGANDA: 14-YEAR OLD GIRL LOSES USE OF LEG AFTER HER FATHER BEAT HER FOR LEAVING ISLAM - 11 August 2011

NAIROBI, Kenya, August 11 (CDN) — A 14-year-old girl in western Uganda is still unable to walk 10 months after her father tortured her for leaving Islam and putting her faith in Christ, according to area Christians.

“He locked her up in a room of the semi-permanent house for six months without seeing sunlight,” the pastor said. “The younger brother was warned not to tell anyone that Susan was locked up in a room and was not given any food.”

“The miserable young Susan was bony, very weak, and not able to talk or walk,” said the pastor. “Her hair had turned yellow, she had long fingernails and sunken eyes, and she looked very slim, less than 20 kilograms [44 pounds].”

IRAQ: 90 STUDENTS STONED TO DEATH FOR BEING EMO'S - 10 March 2012

Youngsters in Iraq are being stoned to death for having haircuts and wearing clothes that emulate the ‘emo’ style popular among western teenagers.

A group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led dozens of teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, according to activists, activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbar website.

The armed men are said to belong to 'one of the most extremist religious groups' in Iraq.
'First they throw concrete blocks at the boy's arms, then at his legs, then the final blow is to his head, and if he is not dead then, they start all over again,' one person who managed to escape told Al-Akhbar.

Iraq's moral police was granted approval by the Ministry of Education to enter Baghdad schools and pinpoint students with such appearances, according to the interior ministry's statement.

The exact death toll remains unclear, but Hana al-Bayaty of Brussels Tribunal, an NGO dealing with Iraqi issues, said the current figure ranges 'between 90 and 100.'

SOMALIA: JIHADIST GROUP AL-SHABAB RADIO GIVE WEAPON PRIZES TO CHILDREN - 20 September 2011

A radio station run by Somalia's al-Shabab Islamist group has awarded weapons to children who won a Koran-reciting and general knowledge contest.

Andulus radio, based near Mogadishu, gave the group which won first prize in the Ramadan competition an AK-47 rifle and the equivalent of $700 (£450).

The second prize-winners received an AK-47 and $500, while the third prize was two hand grenades and $400.

Four children, aged 10-17, were chosen to represent each district in the competition held during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ended in August.

"Youths should use one hand for education and the other for a gun to defend Islam," senior al-Shabab official Mukhtar Robow told the prize-giving ceremony in Elasha, 20km (12 miles) from Mogadishu.

PAKISTAN: BRITISH RED CROSS WORKER KIDNAPED AND LATER BEHEADED BY ISLAMIST GROUP - 5 May 2012

“A British aid worker was found beheaded and riddled with bullets on a roadside in Pakistan yesterday because his kidnappers have not been paid the ransom they demanded.

Khalil Dale, 60, was taken at gunpoint in January while he was working with the Red Cross in the south-west city of Quetta.

His head and body were discovered wrapped in a plastic bag with a note addressed to the chief of police, which read: ‘This is the body of Khalil who we have slaughtered for not paying a ransom amount’.

Local police said the Pakistani Taliban had claimed responsibility.

David Cameron last night described the killing of Mr Dale, a Muslim convert who was also known as Ken, as a ‘shocking and merciless act’.

The Prime Minister said: ‘I was deeply saddened to hear today about the brutal murder of Khalil Dale – a man who was killed whilst providing humanitarian support to others.

‘This was a shocking and merciless act, carried out by people with no respect for human life and the rule of law.’”

SAUDI ARABIA: 5-YEAR OLD SCHOOL CHILD WHIPPED AND SEVERELY BEATEN BY KORAN TEACHER - 8 May 2012

Saudi student was five years old to the skin at the hands of teachers teaching the Koran in Saudi Arabia without clarifying reasons. The student was beaten severely at the hands of a teacher workshop teaching the Koran in Mecca Almabidh even showed signs of beatings on various parts of his body. AFGHANISTAN: 18 DIES IN BOMB AT MUSIC MARKET - 24 June 2012

An improvised bomb exploded at a music market in an Afghan city on Saturday, leaving two people dead, officials said, a day after Taliban militants stormed a lakeside resort near Kabul, killing at least 18.

The blast at the market in the eastern city of Jalalabad, close to the border with Pakistan's militant-infested tribal areas, wounded four people, local government spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said.

Two of the casualties later died from their injuries, Sayed Afandi Sayedi, a senior doctor at the local hospital, said.

Under the hardline rule of the Taliban, overthrown by a US-led invasion in 2001, music was regarded as un-Islamic and banned, and Afghan music shop owners particularly in Jalalabad, have recently complained of being threatened by extremists.
