Title: Old School Pictures
Description: Respecting the past....

AVFC88 - June 18, 2009 01:20 PM (GMT)
Would love to see some pics / match reports / stories from the old days (well just anything pre-a league will do).

I'm sure some of the cro's will have a collection of pics etc?

Yesterday's disgraceful behaviour by the Sydney United supporters will hopefully trigger the folding of the club.If Soccer Australia has any balls at all it will impose the maximum fine allowable. This measure I hope will send them so much further into debt, that there is no way back. For those who were unable to attend, let me enlighten you. These so called supporters let off flares, they also held a 40 foot Croatian flag above there heads for most of the game, and they detonated bungers on the field whilst the game was in progress.

At the end of the game the situation turned really ugly. The police and the security were called to attend to some rowdy supporters. This was the signal for the scum to throw missiles, including bottles at the securityguards and the police. This then prompted the scum to go about wrecking the Marconi stadium. I would hazard a guess, and say that they ripped out at least 150 seats.

In an act of defiance, whan the police were making arrests, virtually to a man the crowd rose to chant Cro-artz-ia. They obviously were in agreeance with the animals antics.

Before any of you listees mention "it's only a small minority involved", let me warn you not to waste your time typing. Personally I'm sick to death of these turds giving our great game a bad name, and when man woman and child start chanting their support and encouragement to these lumps of dog excrement, it indicates the mentality of the majority of people who are supporting this club.

If we don't stop this type of behaviour now, it can only escalate. These turds don't deserve such a magnificent football team. They deserve imprisonment.

This was before your time I'm assuming? Some of it's sounds a bit hyped over the top, but interesting anyways.

OldSchool - June 18, 2009 02:50 PM (GMT)
Its not hyped, its just the way the author has written it like a case study, which it is i guess.

nemapredaje - June 18, 2009 02:57 PM (GMT)
jeez reading that chapter..the old clubs were hated so much, reading it now, one would think that these supporters were the worst problem facing aus. society at the time.

MelbourneCurvaNord - June 18, 2009 02:57 PM (GMT)
Loved the bit about why they didn't occupy the Scoreboard/Terraced end of the ground, "Cos the mums would kill us" (I get that it's a close community thing so from a bunch of young guys is fully understandable, but it's still hilarious to have in a book about hools).

OldSchool - June 18, 2009 02:59 PM (GMT)
best :D

Red_Dog - June 18, 2009 03:02 PM (GMT)
I was wondering, seeing as how apparently a few clubs in Australia were founded by Croats, is the atmosphere a bit the same as in Croatia ?

OldSchool - June 18, 2009 03:04 PM (GMT)
not anymore..
back in the early 90s and before there was some slight similarities, but alot less people ofcourse.

nemapredaje - June 18, 2009 03:09 PM (GMT)
lool just shows how crazy the idea of making a case study about it is.

OldSchool - June 18, 2009 03:15 PM (GMT)
jebiga it was a unique situation here in oz that other people must of found interesting, to us its nothing because we were/are a part of it. These psychological behavioral people love it, and in general most people dont understand why we are this way.

nemapredaje - June 18, 2009 04:02 PM (GMT)
yea true. but to paint football fans the way they did, i just dont get why. maybe theyre jews and just shit bricks when they see someone raise a right arm? lool or maybe theres other reasons lol

soccer will continue to be used as a form of ethnic celebration irrespective of 'offical' attempts to sever such attachments.

taken from page 243

This is a great point.
As far as i am concerned, without the 'ethnics' brining the game over and setting up various teams and competitions there would be no football in this country. I hate the way how the new administration in this country continue to overlook this... Australian football did not start 5 years ago.

thanks for the links, old school

Knights Army wasn't around in the 90s.

That BBBSYDNEY picture was from Olympic Park 1997 Grand Final.. i think.

Semper-Fidelis - June 20, 2009 03:54 AM (GMT)
Who was around during the 90's? headhunters? bbb melbourne?

Metkovcan - June 20, 2009 05:56 AM (GMT)
There was no real named group in the 90's and it wasn't really important as those were the days of Croatias independence. There was just a group of (active fans) chanting and as has been the case throughout the clubs history, they were referred to as Melbourne Croatia Fans. These were no clueless cunts either, in the 80's and 90's they happened to pick up on Torcida's popular trend of wearing orange jackets (inside out work jackets). I'll try get a picture from 1990 against Hajduk in Australia in the next few days. B)

Here a brief history written in the years 2004-5 of the named groups in Victoria off a Croatian website
http://forum.bljesak.info/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4429

Name; Knights Army (2000)
Club: Melbourne (Croatia) Knights SC
League: National Soccer League until 2004.
In Brief: The formation of "KA" meant the uniting of different fans of "Melbourne Croatia" from different areas of Melbourne and Geelong. Soon the terraces were beginning to fill on the stadiums East side (Quarry Hill) in red shirts with numbers of around 100-200, which highly depended on which game it was. In 2002 the KA moved to the North End because the club's board close off the East end, that signalled the division of fans who wanted to stay on the East and boycotted, which also signalled the idea of sub-groups emerging. The peak of this group was in 2002 on the North End where they had around 300 fans in the Melbourne Derby, and in the year 2004 with the “United Boys” from Sydney on the “Last Croatian NSL Derby” who themselves filled the “KA” East End. The only group in Australia who travelled to 5 away games (Adelaide, Morwell, Launceston, Perth, Newcastle)in the last 4 years..
Banners: Knights Army 1953 Melbourne CSC, MKSC, Knights Army, Knights

Name: Chesea Young Boys (?)
Club: HNK Chelsea
League: State League 3 until 2004, 2005 godine in State League 2
In Brief: A group of boys who follow their beloved club to all games with numbers of around 50. A very strong group, which is growing after their club has been promoted for the 2nd year in a row.

Name: HeadHuntersDivision (2001)
Club: Melbourne (Croatia) Knights SC / HNK St. Albans (Dinamo) Saints
League: (Knights) NSL until 2004, 2004-2005 (St.Albans Saints) in the Victorian Premier League.
In brief: A group of around 10 fans from “KA” who were more focused on creating fights who in the beginning seperated by wearing white shirts(on the same end), to which they then move to the North End in 2001. They began with numbers of around 20, then dropped down to numbers of around 10 after the fights in Morwell, going by the stories a security guard had his eyes poked out. The peak of this group was the 2001 for the Melbourne Derby where there was troubles and flares on the North End. And in 2001 in the finals against Perth Glory SC where after a serbian Glory player showed the "three finger salute" to the “HHD” which sparks the troubles and fights with Perth Glory fans and also resulted in a few Perth players and Coaching staff getting belted. The beginning of the 2003 season, the Board of the club bans the boys from ”HHD” entry into the stadium and after massive investigations by the club and police, they went to court. The boys continue following “St. Albans Dinamo” in the VPL without a name(Mostar-Vukovar).
Banners: HEADHUNTERS, Big Boys Play with Big Toys, NDH1941

Name: Ultras Knights (2001)
Club: Melbourne (Croatia) Knights SC / HNK Chelsea
League: (Knights) NSL until 2004, 2005 in the VPL, Chelsea State League 3 until 2004, 2005 in State Ligi 2.
In Brief: A very young sub-group “KA”of around 15 blokes, more or less from the South-Eastern parts of Melbourne. They had a minimal influence on “KA”'s numbers, apart from them making banners, throwing streamers, confetti, and more or less leading the chanting. Proving their how loyal they were by travelling an hour by van and sometimes 2 and a half hours by train to every game.
Banners: Dinamo, BBB-Melbourne, Ultras Knights, Ultras

Name: Dinamo Boys/Mostar-Vukovar (?)
Club: St. Albans (Dinamo) Saints
League: Dinamo for years in the VPL
In Brief: A very stronbg group of fans with the average numbers in the years of around 25-35, more or less in their own original style, where for away games they made sure they left their mark on the place they visited. Numbers between 50-100+. Only group of fans in a state league where the clubs board concludes that when they go on away trips they could have the motto“No One Likes Us, We Don’t Care”. 2003 as guests against Fitzroy Serbia FK they organised a fight in the car park one of the Serbians copped a knife to the stomach, 2004 away against Frankston Pines SC they were locked out of the stadium where they fought, they made trouble , and even bit off a bit of a security's finger.

Name: Jackals (2003)
Club: Melbourne (Croatia) Knights SC / HNK St. Albans (Dinamo) Saints
League: (Knights) NSL and St.Albans until 2004, 2005 in the VPL.
In brief: Small numbers of around 10, formed out of ex-Ultras Knights members and the young group of Dinamo Boys. They fought and created trouble against Perth, Adelaide and South Melbourne at home and South Melbourne away, South Melb - Sydney (Croatia) at South Melbourne, stealing merchandise, etc. Together with South West Firm Sydney in 2004, they held the standard for number of flares"(140) lit at the "Last Croatian Derby".
Banners: Get Out Ur Riot Gear, NERED, Jackals, U-Jackals

Name: Bell Park Boys (2004)
Club: North Geelong (Croatia) Warriors SC
League: State League 2
In brief: Newly formed, a very young group of boys who love their club. Light the odd flare, make banners, and are in a very poor league in terms of fans.

That is the best translation I could do for now, for those of you's who understand Croatian you can read the rest on the link.

MCFAN - June 20, 2009 06:40 AM (GMT)
They weren't organised. They were just rocking up on game day. Having a drink, singing a few songs here or there i kraj.

Noogie - June 20, 2009 06:43 AM (GMT)
interesting, i didnt realise there were so many subgroups.

Did the current MCF come predominantly from any of those groups?

Metkovcan - June 20, 2009 12:47 PM (GMT)
Not all of them are Knights groups.

AVFC88 - June 21, 2009 01:32 AM (GMT)
Those numbers seem like a massive exaggeration.

50 at Chelsea?

50-100+ at dinamo?

Nth Geelong even have a group? :aight I know they have a fair few 'general fans'.....dont know about groups tho!

Metkovcan - June 21, 2009 08:40 AM (GMT)
Dude this was written 2005-ish about the NSL era.

What I miss about the NSL, more than anything, is the people involved.

I love watching that Youtube video of Harry Mrksa "IT'S LIKE GOING INTO THE SYNAGOG AND SALUTE WITH THE HEIL HITLER SIGN *does salute*"

Or after Sth v Preston "riot".....and President president is interviewed out the front of his Thomastown house, in his 1990 old school tracksuit
