back to topic: why do they use the german name instead of the slovakian ?

SnEaK - June 12, 2009 06:47 PM (GMT)
I assume to show their (far) right-winger identity.

Historically, Bratislava was a multicultural city, dwelt by Hungarians, Slovaks and Germans.
The situation is different now, the inhabitants are predominantly Slovaks.

Bratislava is a made-up name, the original Slavic name of the city was Prešpork till the end of the First World War.
In German it stands for Pressburg, and Pozsony in Hungarian.

Vratislav) who build Uratislaburgium in place of Pisonium. the name Pressburg was introduced in 16th century, the hungarian name Pozsony in 12th century.
