Title: NFL: Playoff Discussion
Description: Anyone up for talking some football?

Mousebumples - January 9, 2011 01:07 AM (GMT)
I don't know if anyone here outside of Pal follows the NFL at all, but given what just happened in Seattle, I figured a thread might be worth having?

I mean, we already have one upset this weekend - 1/1, so far. The 7-9 Seattle Seahawks (now 8-9) just beat the New Orleans Saints (11-5 ... now 11-6). Seattle was the first sub-500 playoff entrant in a non-strike season, and they are the first sub-500 team to win a playoff game. (There were 2 such teams in the strike-shortened ... '87 season, I think?)

Anyhow, I just got home from work, turned on the game, and was flabbergasted at the score. At that point, it was 41-30, and the final was 41-36. Still, Seattle? Beating big & bad New Orleans? Really?

Regardless, I'm very happy for Matt Hasselbeck - who used to backup You Know Who in Green Bay. It sounds like this is probably his last season, and I'm very happy to see him at least get one more playoff win.

New Orleans v. Seattle Box Score (Recap)
New York Jets v. Indianapolis Colts (Recap)

(I'll update this thread as I can, but I'm working tomorrow too, so I won't get those games posted until they're both over, probably.)

Hey if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl they'll finish 11-9. :D

Hey if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl they'll finish 11-9.  :D

And if they lose the Super Bowl, they'll be 10-10. (Is it wrong that that amuses me?)

And we just had another Wild Card upset. Both of the defending Super Bowl teams are O-U-T. There's a bit of a surprise for me. Seeing as how I'm not a huge fan of Peyton Manning, I'm okay with the Colts winning. Plus, I'm a closet Jets fan - they're my favorite AFC team. (With the Stillers in second - promise!)

I'm hoping the Chiefs win tomorrow - mostly because I like rooting for the "underdog," and I think it would be a nice parallel to what happened in the NO-SEA game today. (i.e. the "underdog" higher seed wins) ... and here's hoping that the Packers also win. I have no idea if that'll be a close game or a blowout. And, even if it is a blowout, it could go either way.

Last year, our defense seemed to be "good," but Kurt Warner blew up the scoreboard against us. I think we're somewhat improved - and our CBs are definitely better, for sure. However, I've got 2 words for you: Michael Vick. Between memories of him running all over Lambeau (as a Falcon, mind you) and ending our playoff hopes more than a few years ago ... and memories of that horrendous 4th and 26 disaster the last time we played in Philly in the playoffs ... I can't rid myself of a slight sense of foreboding.

But, still, I'm always the optimist when it comes to my Packers. Of course, I'm working during most of the game, but thankfully, I'll have a radio broadcast to fall back on ...

In conclusion: GO PACKERS! :D
