I didn't want to post this in the news as I have no idea exactly what this is about, but I found an advert for a recording of a Cambridge Footlights retrospective. Details are -

Cheers Sosia, sounds like a fascinating series!
I can't figure out, mind, if the show's being recorded over 3 dates or it's going to all be done in one recording and then split into 3 episodes... hmm. So far the ticket site only has 2nd June as a date, with one option saying sold out and the other 'coming soon' - er, ok! Hmm, I do appear to be talking to myself here, ignore me! -------------------- |

Anyone manage to see either of the two recordings that took place last night? Shall have to keep an eye out in the schedules for it - sounds like it should be good.

I got to the first one (which was actually two shows) and had tickets for the second, but they already had their quota so didn't get in (but I think that was only one)
It's a little series celebrating 125 years of Footlights, although they were only using sketches from the late 50s onwards. It was hosted by Steve Punt and featured a cast of ex Footlights people (Mel Giedroyc, Jon Finnemore, some other people who's names I didn't catch but who were familiar). They performed a variety of sketches from past Footlights reviews, while Steve gave a brief history and introduction at the beginning. It was mostly good stuff, although one or two of the sketches were a little, erm, odd. And apparently there is to be an interview with John Cleese in one or all of the episodes, but they wouldn't play it to us as apparently he is "the dullest man in the world"! (Oh, and I was rather pleased that the producer was Chris Neill, who played Chris the builder in Linda Smith's A Brief History Of Time-Wasting, but that could be just me in comedy geek mode) -------------------- Tim: You don't look like a brazen hussy!

Cheers for that Sosia - sounds like it was a good 'un!
That's a naughty thing to say about Cleese, though it has reminded me of a radio interview Tim and Graeme did at the Edinburgh Fringe and the news had recently broke that Cleese was quitting comedy. When questioned on it Graeme just said, "always the last to know...." Anyway, ta again, and shall keep eyes peeled for it. -------------------- |

Me again.
I haven't listened to this myself yet, but I just thought I'd point out that the first episode of this three-part series was on tonight and you can catch it on Listen Again. The synopsis for this week's is: A celebration of 125 years of comedy at Cambridge Footlights. Former alumni come together to recreate past gems in the club's history, sourced from the extensive archives and performed anew. Original material comes from Peter Cook, David Mitchell, Griff Rhys Jones, Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson and others. Performed by Mel Giedroyc, Lucy Montgomery, James Bachman, John Finnemore, Geoff McGivern and Simon Munnery. Next week's episode (Tuesday 24th June, 6.30pm, BBC Radio 4) reads: Steve Punt hosts the second of three programmes celebrating 125 years of comedy at Cambridge Footlights. Former alumni come together to recreate past gems in the club's history, sourced from the extensive archives and performed anew. Performed by Mel Giedroyc, Lucy Montgomery, James Bachman, John Finnemore, Geoff McGivern and Simon Munnery. -------------------- |
