Hi all

If you haven't seen it in the news thread, then you may see on BBC News and The Telegraph that Jack Dee is going to host the entire series of this year's autumn series, which begins on 16th November.

Pretty interesting decision, eh? Who wants to start putting money on Dee getting the permanent post?! unsure.gif

Looks like there's now an article in The Daily Mail speculating that talks are underway to give Dee the permanent position. Given the paper's latest track record of wholesome reporting, mind, it might be best to take that with a pinch of salt... unsure.gif

The article also mentions the announcement was made by Dee yesterday during the recording of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, which is on BBC One tonight at 10:35pm. Might be worth a look in. smile.gif

I'm not putting money on anything just yet!

Much as I like Jack and his hosting so far, I'd still like to see other people given a try (I still think Sue Perkins would be ideal for the job). Although I can understand the idea of being consistent throughout the series. And Jack did seem to be the most popular of the three from last time ...

I must say i'd be very happy if Jack becomes the permanent host - he seemed just right on the tour, really good in the role. I agree it'll be interesting to tune in to Jonathan ross (in a few minutes) to hear Jack talking.

Yeah, the Clue air has had a scent of Jack Dee for quite some time now.
I'd not bet on Jack for just one reason: You never know if the guys might just come up with some inspiration that might surprise us all! Some ace up their sleeves, perhaps?

Anyone think there's a chance that Jack decides he just doesn't want to do it in the long run?

Jack's been on Jonathan Ross now - great as ever despite all the jibes from Ross! The Clue mention was included but only in passing where he confirmed he was doing Clue and really enjoying it.

There's always a chance he could decline - though he'd be rather bonkers to! tongue.gif Who knows, he might only do it for a few series before someone else gives it a whirl, or maybe they'll slot in the odd special guest host on occasion. It doesn't seem like anything's set in stone yet - but time will tell... smile.gif

jon naismith should call it as it is . i don;t understand his reticence . jack dee has all but got the permanent host job . if thier was any doubt of that he would not be given the next series to host on his own .

has'nt it been said that they did'nt want to do a have i got news for you and peramnently have a different host each recording . like most people here though i was hoping for a different set of host this season . maybe then choose replacment . at least jack dee is excellent at presenting clue both live and on the show he did in series 51 .

get it right after the tour i think he has enough clue experience to know if he wants to do it full time or not . if he walks away down the road then the search starts again . no fuss .

sosia i think i would like to see sue perkins on the pannell first before hosting the show as i think she can take over just a minute a little bit , though don;t get me worng i do like her . she comes across as very comepetative thats not what clue is about . it is a combination of the host and the panell together that makes clue so funny in my not so humble opinion .

I don't think Jon Naismith is being deliberately reticent. They might still be exploring, and while they might be very happy with the job Jack Dee is and has been doing, they might want to try other hosts too and see where it leads them.
Also, I think that although quite some time has passed now since Humph's gone, it might still be too early to commit to a new, permanent host, however happy they might be with Jack.

(I also wonder if they'd have asked Rob Brydon back if he'd been more available... The man is just too busy!)

I did think Jack Dee was very good, but it would be nice to see some other chair candidates (I think Sue Perkins would be superb. She was very funny on last night`s News Quiz)

I suppose they're reluctant to commit because the post-Humph era of Clue is still very much in its infancy, and for that reason I would be surprised if they'd already settled on Jack without giving more folks a try. Perhaps this upcoming series is an experiment in itself to see if he's capable of the job now he's had some training on tour, and indeed to see if the audiences still warm to him.

It'll be interesting to hear him on a broadcasted episode after his nervous first steps with it in Southampton. I reckon they're not commiting to the long term yet because he'll still be on probation for the next series and, while he's got tons more experience than anyone else, it doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be the right candidate for the show's future.

In summary: Who knows! tongue.gif

I watched Jack Dee on JR too.smile.gif

I heard him mention last night that he will be touring next september...

I've often wondered about Lee Mack as host, he hosted HIGNFY, he was quite funny on that. smile.gif

Thinking of the new series, I'm wondering when the recordings are going to be. the first one must be pretty soon, considering that we are told the new series begins on Nov 16th! No word from Jon Naismith yet ...... must be soon.

After Manchester, we asked T and G where they were recording - I know they said the Old Vic, but I can't remember where else (except they were places a long long way away from me!) unsure.gif

Chichester and Scarborough were the other venues mentioned, Dobbin (at least that was the case last month), and considering we've now also had confirmation of Dee hosting then a mailout can't be far away. At least I hope not!

If I'm to make a reasonably educated guess I wouldn't be surprised if the first recording was before the month ends. They'd better get their skates on in that case, mind! rolleyes.gif

i remebered chichester was one of the venues mentioned . i did'nt remeber scrabrough either . i have t say it is looking less and less likely i will make it over . first of all the venues bar london are all out of travelling range for me as i have to fly in . london will not be an easy venue to get tickets for , . for reasons best known to herself my mom has booked a holiday next month 10th - 17th . and last but by no means least i think trying to get to england may cause a few family problems . without meaning to bore you with the whole story mom and i are'nt getting on all that well right now .

Having suffered enough of the Jonathan Ross show to see what was said, I have a feeling that someone may have jumped on a very throwaway comment and put two and two together to make six!
