A new world, a new life. It's as if I have died and been reincarnated, but that can't be so. Egypt is still so vivid in my thoughts, that that's simply foolish to consider. Nothing is the same and it never will be. That's what I wanted, that's how it's ment to be.
A small journal filled with blank pages rested in the palms of Ray's hands. It was opened to her first entry that had been written several weeks ago as she read and reread if over and over. Nothing had changed since it was written except that now she had a place to call home where she wouldn't be burdened with her old problems that she once had. They were in the past. It was as simple as that, yet not so simple. She wondered of the thoughts that ran through her aunts mind as she sat by the creek in peace and wondered if she missed the company of her niece who had been like a daughter to her. A tear ran down Ray's cheek as she thought of the pain Nephthys must feel to have lost her so suddenly, but Ray's mind had been made up for awhile now. She couldn't go back no matter how much it hurt them both.
Glancing back down at the pages of her tiny journal, she realized how barran it empty it was, much like her own heart that lacked anyone to love or be loved by. She lifted her pen to write, but the words were unble to reach the tip of her pen. Instead a small blotch of ink dripped from the pen onto the blank page of her journal.
"What's the point?" she said relentlessly, "I never kept a journal before, why should I now?"
With that she gave the book a half-hearted toss into the racing waters of the creek. She watched it as it bobbed up and down in the water's soft current before sinking to the bottom where it remained still. The white sand swept over it, burrying the small black book.
With her staff at her side, Ray rested against a large rock at the creek's edge. Her heavy eyelids sunk over her restless eyes, but she didn't fall asleep. The sound of the water crashing lightly against the smooth stones was calming to her. A feeling of relief came over her. At last she was right where she wanted to be and she had no intention of moving from the very spot where she sat.
