On top of the ridge Jade sat, deep in thought and alone. Not a sound was made except for the gentle breeze and the sound of Jade's own thoughts. She gave a gentle pull on the ribbon her hair was tied in and it came loose as her short rusty colored hair fell just above her shoulders. She looked over the ledge at the amazing view of the entire forest and the gentle morning fog resting peacefully on the valley. Her thoughts were of guilt, but her face was expressionless and showed no emotion. She thought of all the new villagers who had come to stay at Lizeron and she thought of the past. She remembered stories of Sage Shimmertree and her great kindness towards the new people entering the village and how different it was now. She had a life of her own and things to do. There was no time to even meet the new villagers. It wasn't her falt, but her heart was filled with guilt. She should be able to make time for such things, but she just couldn't. She tried to think of other things but her mind kept wandering back. With a sigh, she reached in her pocket and began to fiddle around with the pearl she had bought from the celebration. She felt it's smooth texture in her fingers and at last she pulled it out, staring at it's many colors. It was like nothing she had ever seen before, but somehow she couldn't stop staring at it. I wonder what your purpose is... she thought as she gazed at it, What secrets are you hiding?

Trying and failing. As many times as she tried, she couldn't get the flute to play anything other than one note. One single note. Holding it in both hands, she looked over the carvings that covered its surface, and ran her finger over the holes. What use is a flute that only plays one note....none. A few times she had almost tossed it over her shoulder and forgot about it but she found she couldn't leave it. She found herself returning it to her waist as she pulled out her other flute and began to play. Walking on the bank of the river, hearing no sound but her flute...and her hand started burning. "Wha-" she dropped her flute and bent down on her knees, letting the water run through her fingers, trying to stop the burning. It didn't work. She put her hand a bit farther down, the bracelet just under the surface of the water...and it stopped. Pulling her hand out of the water, it looked fine. "Not again..." she moaned. Looking around her, she spotted Jade high on a ledge. "Eh, she probably hasn't spotted me yet..." she sat down and pulled a pearl from the small pouch around her ankle. Just a moment ago in the forest it was a pale white color...but now it shone with color, a faint glow emmiting from it. And just as soon as it started, it stopped. "What..." She wondered about this pearl and why it had been at that supposidly 'mysterious and fortunate' shop. "What are you..." but returned it to the pouch, feeling stupid to have cared in the first place.

Milo heard desperate calls from the river, and saw someone splashing around stupidly for their life. "What do they think they're doing?" she sneered. She was planning on just walking away and forgetting about them, letting them save themselves, but she remembered Valerie sitting just above her on the cliff. "Oh ya, her. I'm a Fawole, I guess i'm supposed to help with this kind of stuff." so reluctantly, she ran over to where they were drowning and jumped into the river, grabbing the girl and who looked like her sister, and easily lifted them onto her shoulders. Then, she held her breath and went under, though the two girl's heads were still above the water. When she reached the bottom, she pushed off with one of her legs, and she picked up enough speed to bring her out of the river, and landed flat on her feet. She first put the little girl down, then her sister. Without a word, she started to walk away, not wanting any "thank-you" or "you saved my life" stuff. She stopped, shook the water off of her like a dog...and sat down by the river, looking back up to the ledge "Happy Jade?"

First there were screams and soon after a rescue and from the ledge Jade watched it all to see how the sequence of events would turn out. She hadn't planned on leaving her ledge in hopes that Faly would rescue them instead and she had. Satisfied with Faly, she climbed down from the ledge as she pocketed the tiny pearl she had been examining earlier. It was a long climb for most, though she prefered jumping from each foothole until she made it to the bottom where the girl and her younger sister were. "Yes Faly, I guess you can say I am happy, but that doesn't nesessarily mean I'm happy because of you," she replied to Faly's question, "What would you have done if I wasn't sitting there watching your every move?" She had almost forgotten that the other person was even there. "Are you two okay?" she asked as she reached her hand out to them.

Juliette took a deap breath and looked over at her sister. Her sister had fallen asleeep being a child and everything. "were fine, thank you" juliette said to jade. Juliette looked over at the girl. "thank you for saving our lives, but you should truely be ashamed of yourself!, if jade wasnt hear you would have left a child and a teenager here to die!" juliette said in a very angry voice. Juliette picked up her sister and went to sit on a log. "do you perhaps have a blanket for my sister to use?" juliette asked jade. Then she looked down at her sister and smiled in releif that her and her sister were not dead.

Faly glared at Jade "I still would have saved them. Not happily, but I would have. Being happy about all of this wasn't part of the deal. I made a promise and I don't go back on my word." This was true, so Faly was always very carefull when making promises. She wasn't even sure why she was so stubborn about that kind of stuff, who cares, as long as she gets what she wants she shouldn't care. She figured that was one...flaw of hers.

"Thank you for saving our lives, but you should truely be ashamed of yourself! If Jade wasnt hear you would have left a child and a teenager here to die!"

Faly smiled "Ah yes, but don't blame me for that. If you look at it from my point of view, why should I save you? Because I'm a nice person, because its the human thing to do? Hah, well thats what makes me different from you. I dont care about that kind of stuff. More of an advantage actually."

Jade took Faly's words into consideration. "Well, I hope you speak the truth Faly," Jade replied, "But this time I think I just might be able to believe you." She didn't want to be angry with Faly, not just because she was also a Fawole, but because a small part of her admired her. She didn't agree with the way she acted sometimes, but it was rare that she came upon a person more stubborn than herself. Jade respected her for her independance and a small part of her wished that she was able to turn down a cry for help every once in awhile. She knew it didn't make much sense, but sometimes her kindness got in the way.

Her thoughts quickeley changed as she reached her hand in her pocket expecting to feel her tiny pearl she had been examining before. "It's gone!" she suddenly shouted, "My pearl, I lost it! Dang, isn't it just like me to loose something of such value and beauty such as that!" And with that she dashed over to the cliff to begin her search. She would refuse to leave until it was safe with her once more.

"But this time I think I just might be able to believe you."

"Thats nice." She stood up, stretched a bit, and looked back over to Jade who had just freaked out over having lost her pearl. The pearl...could she mean the same one I got from that shop at the festival? She reached down to the small sack hanging from her ankle, and removed the pearl carefully and examined it. So...she got one too eh? Maybe this thing will come in handy some day... And with that, she quickly pocketed the pearl and ran after Jade. She didn't really know why, but she was going to look for the pearl...but finders keepers in this game. As she ran towards the cliff, she ran just behind Jade and she got a weird feeling that something strange was going to happen...and soon. She shook this feeling away, and kept running, all the while looking at her wrist. More specificly at the clothed bracelet.

Juliette turned around after noticing she was going the wrong way. "I know i wasnt happy with you, but you did save our lives after all faly" jade said in a quiet voice. "if you guys want i am having a lunch in and if you guys would like to come you are more than welcome to join us" then juliette rocked back and forth on her feet, scared of white there responses might be.
