Oh God, the horribly inevitable happened.
My precious 4 year old Xbox has kicked the bucket. RRoD, 3 lights flashing.
I realize what this means, but what is my next step from here? I celebrate Christmas, and my birthday is in February, so do I just beg my parents for an Xbox Elite for Christmas and tell them that I want nothing for my birthday or what?
Or do I send it in to Microsoft and see if they'll fix it for free?
I'd rather not get a PS3, none of my friends have it, and I really like the Xbox as a whole, even if this is a "common occurrence."

How do I go about sending it to Microsoft? Do I just call support and explain that I have the RRoD and they'll send a box for it or what?

So I'm at the screen with the "explain your problem to us" box, and at the bottom it says they'll charge me $100?
Do they really, if it's the RRoD and I'm out of the warranty?

They'll charge you $100. Take the WalMart deal and you're getting yourself a brand new console for the same amount, plus a free $100. I don't see why you're not taking this offer...

Have you ever sent in a 360 before? Try to keep going and see if it goes to $0. For me my warranty ended, but they always provide everyone with 1 free fix.

Actually, if it's 4 years old, they wont take it at all, they'll send it back. The warranty is only for 3 years. And that's if he was smart enough to submit his console's serial number to Xbox.com. If he did, awesome, but it still wont help because it's past the 3 years.
The best course of action is to just buy a new console. Thankfully they're cheaper now.
