Has anyone used one of these on their house? We have a lot of calcium here in the ozark mountains. i do not want to use a "salt" water softener, my blood pressure is high enough already :( . Dont' want to spend $400 for something that doesn't work tho. Any input would be appreciated.

hey franz. no, it is based on magnetics. from what i have read since posting this, i don't think it would be worth the money. even some plumbing dealers that sell them don't recommend them very highly. just would like to find a way to reduce scale buildup in my hot water tank. getting real tired of cleaning it out. by the way, how the heck have you been? don't get on any of the sites as much as i used to.

thanks, and any ideas anyone has on reducing scale, please HELP.

Ike, I been locked off SFT for callin it like I see it, so I ain't there. The hairdersser & his girlfriend along with Shady Ronnie don't like me. They even tried stripping my copywrite off all my posts.

Since you mention calcium, the first question is did you remove the magnesium anode? Magnesium anodes will cause problems in calcium laden water. They will also disintigrate, and fill the hot water with black stinking particles that come right thru the tap.

If the tank is glass lined, you can cook out the scale with muriatic acid.
If it's an electric heater, dipping the elements in muriatic every few months works well. I knew a guy here who had an A and B set of elements, and he just changed them out rather than waiting to soak clean.

actually, my water is fine. the white scale just builds up in clumps in the bottom of my heater. i bought a "sand hog" type heating element a few years ago. it will continue to work, even dry. the cheaper units would burn out as soon as the scale built up on them. this one has a lifetime guarentee. the last time i cleaned it out, i broke the heating element. when i went to buy another one, the store owner reminded me that it was guarenteed. he would not let me pay for the new one, even tho it broke when i was taking it out to clean.

i saw that you had left the other site. hope all is working out well for you. i still hit that site, the hobart site, and now this one too. i am just a sponge, trying to soak up all i can for my hobby. between teaching anatomy and taking care of my kids, cows, and myself, i don't have as much time to play as i would like.

If its glass lined can't you make a smoker out of it ?
