Title: Tire deflation device
snowjoker - February 7, 2012 02:06 AM (GMT)
What would be a good design to build a car stopper from trespassing on some of my property ? Was thinking a hunk of flat stock with triangular 1/4 inch welded to it to effectively deflate and cause irreplaceable damage to this person or persons tires..

I'd be worried about retaliation if this is somewhere you aren't.
Trail cams and prosecution has kept my neighbors in check. They're very unhappy about it, but they're also staying out. ;) Make an example out of the ones you catch.

Old leaf springs work well after a short trip through the plasma cutter.
This site will give youplenty of ideas.
http://www.traffic-spikes.com/BTW, what county will you be going to jail in, NY State seriusly frowns on these things being used.
Ain't any law against parking a spike tooth harrow in the lane though, and yougot no damn idea who flipped it spikes up.

Ain't going to be any prosecution by the law where Walt lives JT. The Law don't care.

Some guys on the hunting forums said they had issues with trespassers parking on their roads and then heading into their woods to poach. So they boxed the perps vehicle in with farm equipment that needs a 3pt hitch and a large tractor to move.
I guess after a couple weeks the guy who's truck it was was begging to get it back.
Now if they're using a road you don't use, you could always dump some housewrap nails (the ones with the big plastic washer) and cover them with leaves making sure they stand upright. They're pretty cheap and you have no idea what contractor dumped their bucket on your property.
Another option is to dig a nice deep culvert and cover it with 1/4" plywood. Then put some nice light weight signal tape across the spot to warn people they shouldn't cross it. :D You know, for due dilligence to keep people safe and all. They'll see it as a laughable attempt to keep them out and go blasting right through it.

Oh, and another option is to make a grader blade that you just happened to leave in the road way. Design it such that the drag bar cantilevers up when driven over and impales the vehicles belly. A large piece of angle iron should work famously - 5x5" with a pipe off it that tapers down into a hitch for your lawn tractor (the kind that just have the clevis holding them on).
Be sure to have some protrusions off the back of the blade so they dig in the ground when the tires angle the spike, uh, I mean tongue up. Imagine stepping on a rake - that's what we're after here.

My uncle is a town justice the next town over, and I know the assistant DA pretty well.. I think my Madam will be covered. we have a lane that I blocked with a log and the yo yo moved it and went down there to party, or whatever he does.. dumping garbage and beer cans.. I see it as if he cant respect my property I cant respect his.. I will put up a posted sign, place the log back in its place and the spike bar or strip will be somewhere near by..

Father-in-law has a couple old farms he rents out, and the renters have had trouble with thieves taking mootors and wiring off bins. They laid out a 2x6 with nails pounded through, placed them in the driveway and covered them a bit with leaves. Also had a trail cam set up to catch the perpetrators. All he ever seen was a nosey neighbor riding his bike up the lane, then pushing same bike back down the driveway with two flat tires. never did catch a thief.
Several months after taking the camera and boards away, same nosey neighbor caught the thief in the act. If you have access to any, nosey neighbors trump technology and trickery.

2x2 1/4 inch angle iron with 1/2 inch round cut at 45 degree angle protruding 2 1/2 inches out and spaced a generous 2 1/2 inches apart and staggered on opposite sides... should stop anything that don't contain a run flat tire.. I thought about a rod with a small 90 degree bend to rip up through the oil pan when they run it over, but im not sure that would be nice . or maybe adding some sicle bar knives so when the tire does drive over the strip it will cut the tire to allow the strip to come detached from the tire.. im sure even if staked to the ground its going to get ripped out because them spikes wont come out of the tires very easily...

Unless you have a bucket of knives that don't fit anything cutting a similar shape from leaf springs is the way to go.
Weld them to a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 x 4 flat and lay it across the ground.
If you attach a couple pieces of scrap looking like a mount or tongue you can claim it's a tool you left parked and you have no idea how it got there. You thought some scrapper stole it.

Looks like a clod buster that gets pulled behind my disk when im fitting ground.... not a tire destroyer...

I'm betting that design is safe for most tires. The angle isn't pointing in the right direction to hit the tire and go in, but it will roll under and then cradle the tire as you drive forward over it.

You are right JT so I did a little modifications to it... i dont think it will quite tire friendly now.. as i look at it more and more i keep coming up with diffent ideas. but to build this from scratch with new material is out of my budget.... i just used stuff i had laying around ...
