Title: Tilting Flag Pole 21 Pictures
tackit - April 2, 2009 12:32 PM (GMT)
I bought two full lengths of salvaged 2" black pipe for $25 a piece an added 5' to the one to make a flag pole 26' high.
I first put a 4X6 flag on it but it looked puny from the road so it went to a 5X8. I'm going to get a huge one, 8X10 for patriot holidays.
I bought the rope, rope trolley and 5" gold ball from an outfit in Ohio.
The only other thing... I showed a picture of my Jewel Clamp and the next picture is the primed joint after it was ground smooth so the weld wouldn't tear the flag up.
21 pictures coming. I have more of the project but tried to keep the pictures down to a minimum.
Franz if 21 pictures is to many I'll remove some.
first picture is of rod blocks being drilled

shows the 3/4" hold down/plumb adjustment bolt welded on the bottom. I have a nut under and over the top plate.

The drilled top plate for the pipe to fit through. I cut a 2" coupling in half and treaded it to the pipe so the weight of the pole would be transfered to the bottom plate and concrete footing. it could also be used to get plumb but I didn't need it for that.
tackit - April 2, 2009 12:52 PM (GMT)
I use washers and 1" sq tube to hold the top plate at the proper elevation for welding to the pipe nipples

another plate welded to pipe nipples picture

tackit - April 2, 2009 01:08 PM (GMT)
this is 4" square tube I used for a gusset. The pipe was welded three passes on top and one pass on bottom above coupling. then the 4" gusset was welded to the top plate.

I can't find the pic that shows there is a 4" I beam welded to the bottom of the plate.

Another waving in the wind as proud and magnificent as she can be.
tackit - April 2, 2009 01:38 PM (GMT)
I made this umbrella cover plate out of a 14" disk blade... it will sit on top of the gusset to provide some shelter for the hinge and in time allow me to mount 3" bronz medallions from all branches of the military around it.
It's finished and painted silver like the pole, I'll install it this spring.
The brass ring was silver brazed to the disk, it has three tapped holes for stainless set screws
tackit - April 2, 2009 01:39 PM (GMT)
heres the jig I built to bend the brass ring the big gorilla weld was to take warp out

Now I must return to Adding Fractions With Different Denominators.
Adding Fractions With Different Denominators. You will need to find a common denominator when adding fractions with different denominators.
Example #1 Finding a common denominator.
3 + 7 = 9 (numerator)
18 16 16 (denominator)
To find the common denominator multiply the denominators together . This will give you the greatest common factor (GCF) ( ). Divide the GCF by one of the original denominators (). Multiply the answer (16) by the numerator (3). This will give you the new numerator (). Divide the GCF by the next denominators (). Multiply the answer (18) by the numerator (7). This will give you the new numerator ().
and Now add the new numerators (48 + 126 = 174.). Reduce to the lowest denominator

Look, that denominator and numerator thing is fine for you but you gotta remembers that I only got 5 fingers on each hand and be dammed if I'll take my shoes off!
Mostly I go by denumber on top and denumber on the bottom! :P Keeps it real simple. :D
The numerator; ain't that the folks that comes around to see how many families living in de the House? <_<

I practiced reducing to lowest denominator I haven't did it in a coons age and almost forgot.

Tack that fraction thing works a lot easier if you just convert to decimals.
Now as to the flagpole, it'd look a lot better with this on top.

Unfortunately, LN believes all the crap she learned about that bustard Lincoln freeing slaves. The penguins whut tawt her just couldn't have been lyars. She even refuses to read the emancipation proclemation even though I printed it for her several times. Nope, she ain't stubborn either.
