Since the forum is getting larger....i thought this would be a great oppourtunity to let other forumers know a bit more about each other.....
i'll start....
My name is Kirrily Daniele Hayward, and i was born on the 7th November 1987, hence i am 18. I live 15 mins just out of Ballarat on the outskirts of a town called Ross Creek on a horse stud with my father.
I was born with a condition called Spina Bifida, which simply means "split spine" in Latin. I was born with the worst classification of this condition, myelomeningocele, in which i was born with my spinal cord fully protruding from my back, and as a result i have two verterbrae missing, and dont really have much lower body control, yet i can transfer from chair to chair...and such. It affects my legs, i cannot walk, yet can transfer, bladder and bowel and as a result of a related condition, hydrocephalus, short term memory issues and the occaisional seizure. Hydrocephalus put simply is just a build up of excess fluid in the brain, and this occurred for me when i was 9. Usually this would occur after birth, but i consider myself lucky. To relieve the symptoms of this, i have a Ventricular Peritoneal shunt, which consists of a valve that is inserted into the left ventricle of the brain, and a tube that runs from the valve into the peritoneal cavity (the stomach), its purpose is to drain the excess fluid. I have also had a few other procedures to keep things going, but once again consider myself lucky, i so far have only had 5 procedures whereas others with SB would have had countless....Because of this also, i am in a wheelchair, hence the username..hehe.
I am involved in many activities within the community such as wheelchair basketball, sailing, tennis, swimming, gliding, volunteer work, and am heavily involved with CanTeen. I enjoy these activities and am willing to try anything for the sake of it....i have an extremely long to-do list!. I have just recently become a TeenLinker with Canteen Vic Division, which involves visiting and ringing new members to welcome them to canteen, to find out a bit more about them, and to set up a support system for them. So far this has been an awesome role, and i cant wait to see what else it brings!.
I have been a bereaved offspring member for three and a bit years, i joined up in April 2003, a month after mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Unfortunately, she lost the fight, and passed away December the same year...she fought like hell, so determined, so stubborn, and with such dignity. She is my inspiration to keep going, and the fire in my belly...so to speak...
I finished year 12 in 2005, which was the greatest accomplishment of my life to date. I am now studying to achieve my dream of becoming a social worker and hope to make a difference in the Human Services field. I am currently completing a Certificate IV in Disability/Mental Health, and am hoping to go on to uni to do a Bach of Social Work/Social Sci. I believe there are a lot of issues that need to be dealt with, and my aim is to address these issues and to make change.

WOW U are such an amazing person!! seriously U have been through soo much and still u are soo determind to get things done not only for urself but the community aswell... Australia is lucky to have you!! U are an amazing person!!! Keep up the good work!!!! i never realised how much u have been through and i am so sorry to hear about it all!!! U are such a strong person!!! And I look up to you for that!!!!

I was pretty much about to say the exact same thing. You are amazing, a definate inspiration. Goodluck with all of your goals. Keep raising the bar higher & higher & you will achieve all your dreams.
Some people say one person cant make a difference but i think thats aload of crap. You will make a difference one day, a huge difference. You are so determined & strong!
I dont really have much of a story to tell, im also very private when it comes to talking about myself. Embarassed

Kirrily, you are an example of what an amazing person is. To go through what you have gone through and have to go through each day, and still be such a kind and happy person with such a positive outlook on life is inspiring.

oh well....stuff like....background?? hobbies?? family??...etc etc... Smile
since the forum is getting bigger...this is to instill a family vibe within the forum....a close knit community if you will....we already have that....but we wanna make sure it stays that way..Very Happy. I thought a good way to do this would be to tell each other a bit about ourselves.

I dont really have alot of hobbies as such, in summer Ryan & i spend alot of time out in our boat, skiing, wakeboarding tubing etc. When we arnt in the boat we like to head up to Nelson Bay we spend the arvo swimming & doing touristy things than we usually head out to dinner somewhere afterwards.
I also do some work with our local meals on wheels service, just helping out food prep etc. Each Monday for a couple of hours.
I love spending time with my family, my mum isnt up here she is in Sydney so Ryan & i trying & get down there whenever we have a chance.
My sisters wedding is coming up on Sep29th (two months from today) I am looking forward to it. I am a bridesmaid. I cant wait to see my whole family again, all in the one place having a good fun time.
Ill upload some pics of our boat etc & paste them if anyone is interested
