Just wanted to drop by and say HI.

It does look a bit slow, but you are right, we do need to get word out that we have an open forum for discussion here.

One way to get more hits is to submit the site's url and description to the different search engines. For example, to do this on Google, fill out the info requested on this link: http://www.google.com/addurl.html . Most all search engines, Yahoo search, MSN search, etc all have an equivalent option. Keep in mind that this only submits the url and description to the search engine's database, it does not guarantee any ranking, nor will it place any ads on this site. :-)

Gee, I almost sound like I'm working for them (I assure you I am not...LOL) even though a few of my friends do call me Mr Google. Go figure.

if no one's done this yet, i guess i'll do it.

[edit] it asks for comments on the site. is there anything you'd specifically like to be put there? I was planning on going with "New forum, pretty cool, check it out." or something along that. I know that's pretty lame, but I don't have much. And it's to the point.

Well, it may sound good and all because your thinking "Google, MSN, Yahoo" = lots of people joining, but that's not the case. First, if people search "forums" there will be thousands of forums that will show up on a search before they even come close to browsing 50 and reaching your url. And if your thinking "Well, they could type in The Pit Forum" will then thats pretty useless too, because people would first have to know about this site. In order to get the word out, why don't get get off your arses and advertise on big forums where they allow it, and try and recrut new members. Also, try personal messaging them. Also, you could get into touch with other site admins and make affiliations with them (You give them a banner and URL, and they give you one and you show them off) Then you get members from his forum, and it's especially good if it's a larger more popular site. Also, there are things called "Topsites" where you add you forum link into a directory, and they give you great exposure to the web, especially since this is a free forum. On these "Topsites" you will be entered in a ranking system and the more members/votes/ hits you get, the higher you will rise, and look more popular.

Besides mass advertising why don't you attempt to make a main page for this forum? You could just add basic content like jokes, comics, music tabs/lyrics, whatever. It will attract more people if they have more to do on a forum. And people these days are looking not only for a good entertaining forum to join, but are also looking for more offered "bang for their buck." Why dont you set up a blog for members to use, or download an arcade template for this forum for your members? Just think of how popular you would get if you added a main site with interesting content, and a forum that offers not only good chat, but blogs, and entertaining arcade games.

You can't just expect to make a free forum and have tons of member joining. Just look at the payed for forums. What they have different is a better listing on search engines, but they have tons of stuff to offer people who join. What you need to do it offer something they can't refuse. And more importantly good topics to discuss. So while you working on other things, why dont you add tons of threads, and the most topics one can ever dream of. Think of anything, and make a topic about it because this site dosen't have alot. If you run out of ideas, then why dont you steal some from other forums?

No need to thank me for the useful help.
