The professor was dead, Jean and Scott were gone. Many had believed that, without them, the school ought to be closed. But, that feeling was far from universal. Many recognized that, more than being an educational institute, Xavier’s Academy provided a safe haven for many wayward mutant youth. It isn’t uncommon for these students to feel the Academy represents the first home many of them have experienced.
A permanent replacement had yet to be found for the Professors. So, the school continued, the teachers working together to keep the Academy open. Classes began again and things seemed to be continuing as close to normal as one would expect.
Magneto was, likewise, continuing to reorganize his followers after the dramatic setback in San Francisco. Having found a new location for the Brotherhood headquarters, Magneto’s efforts have doubled as the country’s politics continue to become more anti-mutant. Attacks and political sabotage are becoming more frequent occurrences as the weakened Brotherhood struggle to regain the influence.
In the midst of the chaos, one of Xavier's Academy professors is more and more at odds with the confrontation between the Brotherhood and X-Men. Perhaps foolish in the belief that all mutants are in the conflict together, Tulojow Nagde has begun creating a safe haven where all mutants can find companionship and support, regardless of their affiliation. A safe haven where peace and pride in their mutations is promoted, this new group is being kept secret from both Emma and Magneto though a day may come when they will have to stand on their own.
However, all are oblivious to the extent of Senator Richards’ true intentions. He has been growing more open about his efforts to mandate mutant registration and forms of public identification. His full intentions are not far off from Magneto’s accusations of fascism. Some of his inner circle have even heard rumors of a desire to see all mutants contained and isolated from the general population.
The freedom of the mutants at Xavier’s appears to be riding upon the outcome of the upcoming election. Can the mutants convince enough of the humans that his rhetoric cause even more problems or will Magneto’s continued violence drive more of the voters to support drastic measures?
