Felt we might be in need of a GD for the forum, so here we go. This is on topic, so lets keep everything anime or manga related here. We have an entire spam forum for other things.

In reference to the GD title. ReXephon, Gundam Wing, Escaflowne, Evangelion, SRW, Vandread, Full Metal Panic, and Gasaraki are all exceptional Mecha anime.
If you see any mention of the below anime in any of my posts, I bash it. If it's something to say otherwise then its just Omega with mod abuse.

Edit: I'd thank you to not edit my post with your gay eureka 7

Hey, Mazinkaiser pwned as well man! (jk)

Kaiser was an epic failure. And I still gotta finish Rah and Eva so I can decide which is better.

And you forgot Eureka 7 on that list...

Mazinkaizer has Borot. Instant win. .-.

Anyway, Code Geass and Gurren Lagann FTW.

Sanger sucks, by the way

Wodan > Sanger but for some reason I think Lamia + Kyosuke are more beastly in general. One gets a Ninja Mech and the other is a fucking flying Arsenal.

Eureka 7's alright. Though there's way too much focus on Renton being the young nubcake & Eureka being a frail piece of crap. >_> The other characters appear more interesting & worth hearing about.

Big O's my favorite Mecha anime, if you can even call it that. Very good show, shame it's only 30ish episodes.

Big O... saw half of it, then kinda lost interest. I should finish that some day...

Eh... he is only a nubcake for the first 26 episodes. He mans up a bit for season 3, then completly owns in season 4.

At least he was an original character. Most mech pilots are hyperactive retards that have no importance at all.

As for Eureka... ok, you sorta win that argument. But you would have to watch show to understand. Still, I don't like FLCL either, so we're even...

I've actually never seen someone praise Big O. This is new to me. No offense meant, I just didn't appreciate the show much. The characters never appealed to me. Especially the lead role. My personal favorite among Mecha is Code Geass, but I'm in general not a huge mecha fan.

I don't really have a favorite genre, but I do have a top list constructed. How much anime do you all watch? Only stuff that comes to the US, or do you get into subs and stuff?

I'm not saying Eureka 7's a bad show - It's actually one of the better ones on Adult Swim - but if they did some stuff differently I'd like it a lot more. It's got a good plot, though it's hard to get into when you don't watch it chronologically. I tend to watch animes in random spurts when it's on Adult Swim, & I remember to watch it.

Mastix - I guess it just goes to show you how much I know about anime. xD I'm not a big giant robot anime guy either, I like short animes mostly because I'm a pretty casual viewer, & shorter series are easier for me to watch since the plot moves along a lot faster, & I can get a sense for what's going on, regardless of how many episodes have passed since I started watching it.

If I liked anything about it, I thought the characters were relatively interesting, but I really loved the music. The piano was amazing in that show.

Haha, I did like the butlet. He was pretty incredible. I'm a pretty avid viewer myself, but I agree with you. I like short animes more. Mind you I like them for different reasons, but I like them nonetheless. My top 5 anime are all around 13 episodes. My all time favorite, 5 centimeters per second, is an hour long chain of short stories (one 30 minute part, one 20, and one 10). My others are all one season long animes.

Yeah, Norman the Butler was definitely my favorite character. But none of the characters were too bad in Big O, except Dorothy, but she was so enigmatic, you had to like her. =/

My favorite animes -

FLCL
Case Closed
Lupin The 3rd
Ghost in The Shell

For a 5th, I guess Dragonball is pretty good, then again, I haven't watched it since I was about 10, so I wouldn't know. Gundam Seed I remember was good, Big O's pretty good, but not spectacular.

So as you can see, I like older animes (Case Closed & Lupin; or at least by art style), but I also like indepth plots & stories like Ghost in the Shell, & pure craziness in FLCL.

The music, for me, is a big part of an anime.

Oh man, I need to get you to go to veoh.com to watch some better stuff then. If you want deep anime, I can recommend heaps of good short ones:

- Haibane Renmei ~ (13 episodes)
- 5 centimeters per second ~ (60 minute 3 part movie)
- Serial Experiments Lain ~ (13 episodes, same guy as the creator of Haibane)
- Paprika ~ (1.5 hour movie)
- Paranoia Agent (13 episodes, by same guy who made Paprika above)
- Voices of a Distant Star (30 minutes)

I could go on and on, but for your sake, I'm sticking to the ones that are in English (5 centimeters per second will be released in the US on March 4th, so that's one exception). Those are all really short, I highly recommend them. A lot of them were released several years ago.

Also ~ revision of my favorite mecha: Neon Genesis Evangelion. How it slipped my mind, I don't know. That was the only mecha ever to reach a depth that I considered worthy of top-listing.

Oh, and I agree, soundtrack is a big part. All of the ones I just listed have great tracks.
