Just watched part 1/12. I'll watch another part later. It looks good, but my mind snaps if I watch too much of a silent film at once. But it looks pretty ahead of its time.

I've seen the first 3 parts...and it's brilliant. Could this be...could this be what invented the dystopian future subgenre? aghast-GIF.gif

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it did. You wouldn't believe how ugly the unrestored versions look. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first watched this. The other versions had an incomprehensible storyline.

H.G. Wells hated this movie (he saw the cut version with the butchered storyline, and claimed it ripped off his early work. I doubt it), and Arthur Conan Doyle (he did, too) loved it.

There were a few shots left out of this version. When Freder leaves the machine room, there is supposed to be an airship flying past the buildings. Also when all of the people are fighting in the Yoshiwara, the last shot (which was damaged) showed one of them shooting another.

I just finished it...wow. I'm going to show this to all my friends. This is probably the single best movie I've ever seen.

You should get the DVD... There's a 40 minute documentary about how it was made, German Expressionism, and Fritz Lang's other movies.

A lot of the things from it were also put into Star Wars. Besides the robot-C3PO connection, there's the father-son struggle and Rotwang's metallic hand.

Why did the losers at Paramount have to find the story "offensive" and cut it? WHY?! furioussmiley2-copy-GIF.gif

Oh, and here's the butchered version.

I've seen it a lot. It's especially good on a big-screen (or HD) TV with surround sound.

Do you know if it's available in a slower frame rate?

Not this (the best) version. The exact frame rate is a hotly debated subject.

If I weren't so lazy, I'd rip it and slow the FPS my self.

ZOMG!1!!1!

It's being remade!!! It's probably going to end up sucking!

Anyway, probably 18 or 24 fps. No one is really sure what it was when it was first released.

I don't think it's going to suck. When I saw it I immediatly thought "This would be the perfect movie for a remake". No offense to the original, I liked it too. I'll go with 18 FPS.
