Connecticuts opening day my first report i will try to post every day .
May 6th. Birds were really hanging tight to the roost this morning i had one fly down at 730 and did a few gobbles i replyed back and all hell broke loose all the barnyard stock came running over to my decoys i had two horses 5 very young white face herfers come up to my blind ,then i had all the adult herfers come looking for the younguns ,i sat for awhile hoping they would leave no such luck so i gave up and move my gear down to another section where they are not allowed to go, I should have slept in my son called me last night to tell me the farmer opened the pasture i was hoping they would stay in the old pasture no such luck. It still was a fun morning to be out except for my camera batterys went dead and i didnt check them last night.... We will be back out to the farm again at 0430 hours ... May 7th I woke up to a pouring rain and more to come so i rolled over andwent back to sleep the birds are hard to work in a pouring rain so well give it another shot on Friday.. |

Best of luck with them, Andy. Riley's season is on here now but it's been tough. He roosted two of them Tuesday night with his opener being Wednesday but things didn't work out to be there yesterday early-morning. We spent a very quiet day in the woods and were hoping to roost one last night but a really wild thunderstorm came in so we had to get the wheelchair to the house.

Andy
You could take your notebook computer and hook it up with a wireless connection and send us a live shot by shot broadcast ...and you ought to record and patent your calling sounds and sell it to farmers to call in their livestock _____________________________________________ Don

Hey Leep We are getting away from turkey hunting here, but I wanted to let you know. Now I don't want you to worry BUT... I took my computer outside with me today. Plugged in the wireless remote connector and had Scotty beam me up to NASA's hovering spy satellite as it passed over my house here just north of Missouri. I adjusted the frequency and as the satelite move across Montana, it changed paths and headed towards Butte and then it hovered like a spaceship over a house at 1951 Elm ST. While it was hovering, I could see a satelite picture of a very slow moving white truck in the street in front of that house. They were looking for somebody. If you live in that general vacinity, I wouldnt go outside if I were you. The driver of that truck didn't look to friendly. I would at least stay inside until Andy gets done with his day by day updates of his turkey hunting adventures. And it better quit raining by Andy real soon because I would lot rather hear stories about a guy in a camo coat looking for a turkey than stories about guys in white coats looking for a turkey. ____________________ Andy I hope you have good success tomorow. We love reading your stories. Be careful. Shoot straight and don't forget the pictures. -------------------- ![]() |

May 8th
I went to the farm where i have been hunting as it got light i heard a bird gobble way off in the distance i gave him a call back and waited nothing that was it ,i waited about an hour and i tryed to do some love sick hen calls well i thought thats what it was Nothing for the next hour then the cows showed up with a very loud MOOOOOOOO then the two horses showed up behind me to say good morning I sat untill 11 and packed up my gear and went to the place i hunted last year when i got there i set up my blind for the next mornings hunt and went home for some sleep. May 9th A vey sleepless night my older golden retriver has a sizure he was in the bathroom thrashing around it took about 20 minutes for him to come ouut of it i washed his head with cold water and kept talking to him finally he settled down ,he goes some times for a few months with out a sizure . 330 i was up and thought about staying home but i made it out the door. It was just getting light when i got to the blind a crow called and two Toms responded a long ways off i set out two dekes and sat in he blind trying to fight off the sleep . I tryed a few calls and nothing it was hard to hear with the rain pounding off the blind i sat untill 1130 i had to be home for my wife to go to work i heard nothing more and seen nothing .. The dumb turkeys are wearing me out or is it just old age Be back at it on monday |

Andy, are you useing a different broadhead this year? Maybe it don't like screens. I myself, don't trust shooting through them.

I never could bring myself to it, but, have ya made sure they are sharp? wonder if that mess gets harder as time in storage goes by, ya know?, maybe like more brittle or something???? I like Kenny just never could do it, seems all wrong to me from the get go, BUT ANY WAY, Just was their time to walk ANDY, Don't let it get ya down, or the worst, start "OVER THINKING" everything....

Bummer Andy. I wonder if shooting through the screen takes that little extra sharpness away... I always figured they had the screen off on the hunting shows I've seen for better filming but it's something to think about.

I have been pondering this over since my last hunt the only thing i see was 1 it was dark and gloomy i had low light sitting in the blind with the screens up .
2 I was off on my yardage i checked it with my new range finder it was more like 19 yds instead of 14 . From now on i wont shoot with the screens up i see all these videos where they shoot in blind with the windows down. It was still a fun to get out in the woods i got to see more deer .. |

It's alway fun to just get in the woods. Be it with gun, bow or camera.
