As you know, my archery season is going pretty slow because of all predators. After the wolf came in Halloween evening, it's been ridiculously quiet. I knew a change was coming last night when I had a pair of gray fox near me. Tonight, things were more active. There were already three deer behind the house by the time I headed for my stand. Saw two more on the way. I was surprised when I sat quietly for over an hour without seeing even a squirrel. Then a doe that I see often came in and was hanging out in front of me but keeping an eye on the woods to the east. End of shooting time came and I still didn't know what was over there. Le would be home shortly to get me from the stand so I thought I would just sit quietly for a few minutes and maybe it would come in. Soon I caught movement and was pretty fired up to see a big rack! I couldn't really check it out because of the fast approaching darkness but he was big. Finally came to about 10 feet from the doe (about 20 yards from me) and stood really still watching her. Suddenly he did a really loud snort/wheeze, a sound I've never heard in the woods before, and went grunting after the doe!! There's a big boy in the woods and he's getting closer!

WOW!!
That is some great news. That rut has got to be starting soon by you. Doesn't it? That is probably the only thing that makes those big guys make a mistake. I know they wear a watch on their left front leg. I hope he makes a daylight appearance for you. --------------------   |

Lets hope he goes by your stand when its legal to shoot. The rut can make those big guys make that one big mistake.

The bucks are definitely hot and ready to go. The does have to be right on the edge of starting.

Thanks guys. Shoot or not shoot, either way for me. There's a bunch of season left. I just like to see stuff and there's been to many nights with nothing moving.
