With my arthritis getting worse in my hands, I'm finding it harder and harder to skin a squirrel. I usually make an incission across the back. Insert two fingers on each side and pull in oppisite directions. I remember seeing an article years back on an easy way to do it. First you made a incession somewhere around the squirrels butt. Then step on the tail, and pull the hind legs. It said the hide comes off slick as a whistle and with no hair on the meat. I would like to see if this method would be easier for me. Any of you feller's know how to do it? How bout you, Don? You've skinned many a critter.

I know the method you mean Kenny. It was somewhere in Outdoor Life Magazine, years back. I do remember yohad to either cut the feet completely off or cut the skin all the way around. Try the Outdoor Life website. They may have something on it. If I come back across it I'll let you know.

You cut one hind leg-skin it and tie a rawhide string to it and tie it to a tree.Tie the other end to the bumper of your truck..pull away slowly and the hide comes right off. Yeah it really does.... biggrin.gif thumbs_up.gif rolleyes.gif

Leep, Leo or someone else are the guys to check with on that one.

I always thought it had to do with FPS (Frames per Second) on your computer matching the frames per second of the video or something like that. dunno.gif

Okay. Now I'll go get me some squirrels with my, Gamo, .22 cal. pellet rifle. I've never seen so many of these critters in the woods. And their not affraid of you. It would be nothing to get 20 a day, but our limit is 8. No one hunts squirrels anymore. I guess thats why there is so many. The wife and I love fried squirrel. Of course it will have to wait because, MuzzleLoader starts, next Saturday.

Kenny, If you are by yourself make sure you have two leather pieces..That way you can tie both legs on a tree limb about eye level..I, and my dear friend Dean, gone these last ten years, could and did skin many coon in a minute to a minute and a half..We cut around both hind legs and around then anus and then tied one leg with a rawhide string to a limb, said "Go" and he or I would time the other guy to see who was the fastest..Dean was born blind in one eye but could shoot his .22 revolver better than I and skin a big coon, including the tail, both eyes and ears and the nose-perfectly, in one minute. My best time was a minute fifteen seconds...

I sure miss him...
