I hate to expose my husband for the "great pretender" he is, but this has gone on quite long enough now.

Here's the truth. The whole truth. And pretty much nothing but the truth.

Yesterday, Phillip was hell bent on picking Morgan Sheppard for number one. I stood over him with a baseball bat until he typed in Keselowski's name.

So ... the glory goes to me, Chuck. Quit telling Phillip he's da man and all that stuff. He's all full of himself and hard enough to manage as it is, without you egging him on to think he's smart.

It was my woman's intuition that picked yesterday's winner. All women have it. If every man had listened to his wife yesterday, he'd have gotten a winner too ... or at least a real good fried catfish supper.

Hey Jonelle!

It's Riley's (Don's son) Birthday up in the 'Daily News' Thread today.

Jonelle - November 20, 2011 09:47 PM (GMT)

Thanks for the nudge in the right direction, Chuck. I'm ashamed to say I seldom read this message board anymore. I wouldn't have wanted to miss Riley's birthday.
You're a good egg for telling me.

I just informed Phillip that he and I are terrible failures. He grinned and appeared unconcerned. I went on to say that I, personally, would NOT be such a total failure if I didn't live with a damnyankee. The grin grew bigger. Still no show of concern about our shortcomings.

In our defense, life in the Gerner house is too hectic to allow much time for the back forty. I mean like around the CLOCK hectic. Yesterday was a living nightmare. Me'n Phillip always look a little bit like Moe and Curly. Yesterday, if somebody had been filming the chaos we bumbled our way through, we could have sold the tape to Hollywood and all been rich forevermore.

The important thing is ... we survived another crisis. Dodged another bullet. Didn't have to call in any back up either. Handled everything on our own. Feel downright SMUG about it.

Amen Jonelle...Always good to hear that you and Phillip have weathered another storm..But remember, you never have to go through them alone..We are here for you two if things get too rough..

Anytime you need us just know an email is as close as you have to be and someone here will come to the rescue..That's what friends and family are for and we are more than friends here ..We are that but we are a family too..

So if something comes along that is too rough to weather or you just don't feel like dealing with it let us know..

Don't make me come down there..

(If I ever hit the lottery the Back Forty is going to be a really happy place .. ) :D  )

Oh, Leep ... you've got a good heart.

This old world is full of good people, and a whole bunch of them are on the Back Forty.

Phillip and I are okay, Leep. Truly, we are. And even when we're not okay, we're still okay. You understand ... The bigger the storm, the tighter we hang on to each other until it passes.

It has now been fourteen months since Phillip's last hospital visit. A record for us.
(please God let our luck keep holding)

Worst case scenerio here is when I, myself, get sick. Phillip is helpless, so when I go down I take us both down. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have been avoiding the big drugs because the risk of side effects - at my age - outweighs the benefits. Mostly, I do pretty well. However, stress is my enemy and I've been under quite a lot of stress lately. (How does a person avoid it?)

I have a beloved grandson in prison in Texas for DWI. Been there a little over a year. The entire family is devastated. He is 34. It was his third DWI. He has an alcohol problem for sure. I talked to Don about it and he gave me some wise counsel. He said whether or not my grandson stays sober when he gets out of prison will be entirely up to my grandson, and no matter how much parents, grandparents and siblings agonize over him, the final outcome depends only on him.

Don's right. I know he's right.

So, I try hard not to get too upset. Dale will be eligible for parole sometime after the first of the year. Meanwhile, everyday I mail him a letter. Six days a week this past year a letter goes out to him. Never lecturing. Only telling him how fine he has been in the past and how fine I know he will be again in the future. I've gone back in time and told him all about his ancesters and about his dad's baby days and childhood escapades and about his own childhood and all the cute and funny things he did and said. Only ... now, I've just about run out of writing material. If they hold him much longer I'll be teaching him - by mail - how to knit and crochet.

On top of that heartache, my youngest daughter, Honey Gail, who has been married 24 years (23 of them very happy) is now separated from her husband and he has filed for a divorce. If you've read my blog, Leep, (THE BEST FIVE ARE MINE) you know Honey Gail. She's the least likely person in the world to end up in a divorce court. But it's happening. Right before my eyes. It's happening.

I think often of a plaque I saw long ago ... It said, "Please, God, be good to me. The river is so wide and my boat is so small ..."

That's exactly how I feel.

Stay safe, Leep.

And thank you again for caring about us.

Jonelle

Leep - November 21, 2011 01:28 AM (GMT)
I'll be praying for you and yours Jonelle..

All things are possible in Him...

Take care and God Bless you both..

AFarCry - November 21, 2011 01:37 AM (GMT)
That's some tough stuff, Jonelle. I'm sorry to hear about Honey Gail. Seems all we can do these days is to love them and pray their lives and ours work out. Keep your faith and life will take care of itself. Shoot, those words don't begin to convey what's in my heart right now but I'm not being very eloquent tonight. Just know that I'll put in an extra prayer tonight for you and yours, and what Leep said goes for me too. Anything I can do...
Don

Jonelle - November 21, 2011 05:56 AM (GMT)

Don, thank you. You're such a good man.

When you can't find the right words to say what your heart is feeling, that lets me know exactly what you're feeling. I know you care, Don. I always know you care.

Love to you, Le, Beth and Riley.

Stay safe and well. All of you.

Ouch!

Sorry to hear about some of the turmoil going on in your life right now. You guys don't need that turmoil.

You have enough of your own.

I am glad to hear Phillip avoided the hospital. :whew: I hate going to hospitals. Not my favorite place. Not even in my top 100 places to visit.

HunterFisher - November 21, 2011 05:44 PM (GMT)
Jonelle, Cari and I, will keep you and, Phillip, in our prayers. Life sure is hard to understand at times but I'm sure the, Good Lord, will put a silver lining on those clouds. God Bless.
