Its October, and along with the start of the hunting season, it is also the start of Flu season. Now is the time to get that flu shot. It can save you from the many complications caused by the flu. One of those complications can even be death. Thousands die each year of the flu. If in some way you are impaired, those complications triple.
The flu is not caught by being outdoors or getting a chill. It is true that doing so can leave you more suseptible to it. Being indoors more, we are in contact with more people. The air is not as fresh as in warmer seasons. In these closed in locations, we are more prone to gettting the flu.
if you want to stay healthy and not miss that deer or elk hunt you have waited all year for, get that flu shot! And no. You cannot get the flu from a flu shot. Thats an old wives tale.
While at your doctors its a good idea to ask if you are also at risk for getting pneumonia. You most likely are if you disabled,have a heart or lung condition, or some other illness. A pneumonia shot lasts four years. A good piece of insurance to keep you healthy.
Get those shots and enjoy your hunting season.

Never heard of the pneumonia shot, but I'll ask about that one. I can't do the flu shot as everybody tells me they get a low grade temp after it. Since my MS reacts so badly to heat, even a low grade temp will leave me on my back.

I got the pneumonia shot last year and got my flu shot last month..
Now, if I get to feeling bad I'll have a shot of Jim Beam, a shot of Rivas, a shot of Kentucky Bourbon, and maybe a shot of Black Label. At least then if i get sick I won't give a damn.... :yahoo:

Good Reminder Mark....As most of you know I have congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and pulmondary adema, etc. I got my fle shot on 16th and then I got the Pneumonia shot last Monday. I have one more I need, the Shingles Vaccine as I have had them three times since my open heart surgery. Trying to get my wife to get the flu shot......

With your heart you need those shots. I discussed the shingles shot with my doctor but she said wait till I'm about 60, 9 years to go. Alooong way away. Be nice to see if I make it that far.
I know I'd be in plenty of trouble if I didn't get those shots. I make it a point to ask every October if they forget.
Get the wife to take the shot. Tell her it will save her from a lot of misery.

Military and Dept of Corrections used to make us all get Flu Shots. I, for the first time since retirement in 2005, got the shots. BTW.....I made it to 61 just last month. Retired and can't do much.
