As people don't know who Tres Iquis is it started me thinking it would be good to have a general recommendation thread for animes and mangas which are not Saiyuki. What are you watching... what are you loving... that sort of thing

Anyways Tres Iquis is from the anime Trinity Blood.... TB is about a world in which humans and methusaleh (vampires) co-exist. The mysterious Rosencreutz Orden wish to disturb the restless peace between the two races. Enter Abel Nightroad (who reminds me a lot of Vash the Stampede from Trigun) a priest from the Vatican, who, having met up with a girl called Esther is thrown into a world where they find unlikely allies, and deadly enemies in equal measure. The animation is lovely... very gothic in tone. Tres is also a priest from the vatican (^_^) but there is also a whole plethora of bishies - Abel, Tres, Dandelion, Cain (yes Cain and Abel - there are a LOT of biblical references), Radu, Ion, Isaak Ferdinand Von Kampfer, Dietrich - the list goes on and on. The girls are hot even. hehe. The only problem is the writer has passed away and the end is left a little open... *sob* But it's well worth checking out.... it's being released in the USA in Sept. I will post piccies later (at work and can't access Photobucket)

Vampire Hunter D.
I have seen one of the two movies called Bloodlust and I have read two of the books. (and these are books not manga, but well worth the read if you don't usually read actual books).
D is a dhampir (half vampire half human) and he is a Vampire Hunter.
It takes place in the future when the humans are taking over the night, and the Vampires are all dying out because of bounty hunters.
and ... yeah ... it's just really good and ... oh ... so pretty! (at least Bloodlust is ...)

Oh and have any of you seen Ouran High School Host Club anime? It's the best!!

Ah, I have not seen Ouran High School Host Club yet, but I will keep an eye out for it.

Have you seen PeaceMaker? That's a good one.

No I haven't seen PeaceMaker... though I've heard of it. I'll check it out.

Oh and OHSHC is showing in Japan as we speak, so it's being released every weekend (usually) as a fansub on youtube, and you can d/load it as well.... but it's not licensed yet so you won't just be able to pick it up in the shops.

We're up to ep. 20 now (not sure how many eps are in the complete series). But I swear everyone should watch this anime... it's just the craziest, cutest and downright hilarious anime ever! Or at least in my opinion it is... ^^;

It's like Fruits Basket in that it's not easily definable, and can still have some dark-ish moments (quite a bit less dark than Furuba can get tho). I will post some piccies when at home.

My favourite character is Kyouya Oohtori *kyouya sigh* who is a "glasses-type" - ie: intelligent, manipulative, "shadow president" of the Host Club and very, very sexy...... but I also love the twins (twincest yay!)... However to be fair every character is cool!

Basic storyline is - a poor student transfers to Ouran High School on a scholarship. The school is for rich students and to counter the boredom many students have started their own clubs. The Host Club is a club whereby the Hosts entertain the girls of the school for shits and giggles, and money (whenever Kyouya is concerned - it's for profit). To entertain the girls there is a whole gamut of anime stereotypes in each Host talent (princely type, glasses type, cool type, twincest, shota loli etc)

Anyways. Transfer student accidentally stumbles on the Host Club whilst trying to find a quiet place to study. Knocks over precious vase and is forced to join the Host Club, initially as the "dog" to pay back the debt...... However, when the student ends up getting attention from the customers, and indeed from the Hosts themselves, they become a fully fledged member of the OHSHC. Crazy antics ensue......

There are other cuties - Mori is very popular.... Honey-senpai looks like Momiji... and I like the main characters dad when he's not in Okama (transvetite) mode. But I've spoilt you enough with these... so I'll stop!! ^^;

But sadly, I have NO channels with anime on them. None at all. So I drive anywhere from 45 min - 3 hours to get some anime and manga. Oh, what fun it is too ...

What do you mean no channels?

If you can - watch it on youtube.com - just put in Ouran High School Host Club episode.... then whichever one you want to watch. Like I say it's up to ep 20 now.... good way of watching unlicensed anime (like this which is still airing in Japan, like I mentioned).

I still maintain that legitimate anime purchase is essential... and I do pick stuff up... just my insatiable urge for more anime means I have to look at other methods of viewing anime as well. ^^; Also viewed Meine Liebe ep 1 on youtube... and d/loaded the rest and Meine Liebe Wieder as well. Same with Trinity Blood - but they took it off youtube as it's been licensed and being released - I had to d/load the last few eps because it was killing me not knowing what was going to happen. >.<

O.o that's a long drive! Problem living in such a large place as USA I spose.

No channels you ask.

I get a total of *counts* 7 channels and none of them show anime.

And as for youtube, I have a slow connection and it takes hours for a few minutes to load up to watch.

So, yeah ...

If it's any consolation - the UK only has limited anime on channels too - we've only just got a regular anime slot on a little known channel on Sky - showing FMA and was Wolf's Rain but is now Mezzo DSA.

Ok - have any of you guys seen Samurai Champloo?

It's by the guy who did Cowboy Bebop and it's a heady mix of samurai action and comedy all fused together with hip hop.... yes, you read right... hip hop. The first ep, which incidentally warns that the show is not particularly historically accurate, sees Mugen (rebllious, uncontrolled rogue with major fighting talent) and Jin (wandering ronin - totally opposite to Mugen, disciplined, intelligent and very very hot, but also with immense fighting skills) get stuck with Fuu (ditzy, extremely cute girl who loves her food) as she helps them escape from execution. Fuu has made Jin and Mugen promise her that they will not fight each other, a promise that is often broken (they can't seem to keep there desire to beat the crap outta each other in check) and help her find the Samurai who smells of sunflowers. The first ep jerks and shifts timelines quite rapidly, which was kinda annoying (but was meant to tie in with the hip hop vibe) but that soon stops. What you are left with is a great anime, fantastic characters, hilarious and exciting storylines, cool soundtrack and lovely animation. And did I mention that Jin was hot? Oh... I did already.... JIN IS HOT - there I go again...... ^^;
