Now, the anime doesn't come out until early next year... but I wanna get things started before then, so we're ready when it's out. XD
So, anyway... I'm going to be fansubbing it when it comes out. I've been learning how to do it, I've already got translation, timing, and styles down, by then I should have .ssa effects (for attacks and whatnot) down... So now I have some questions to ask people. 1: If there were a fansub of the OVA made, would you watch it? 2: Here's the big question... name romanizations. Since some names were changed (Refill -> Raine, Genius -> Genis, Dike -> Dirk), others simply spelled differently (Shiina -> Sheena), I don't know what to do... I was thinking of just using the most correct names (Japanese if it was changed, with most "correct romanization, like Colette, Shiina, Ifrit, etc.), and having translation notes and whatnot... Does this sound okay to everyone who's interested? 3. Attacks. Here's my idea: Japanese attack name at the bottom of the screen. English attack name at the top of the screen, as a note. And in the seperate translation notes, put Japanese, English, and direct translation of the attack names. So, for example, we'd have the subtitles say "Majinken!", the note at the top would say "Demon Fang", and the translation note file would say "Majinken (Demon Fang)- literally, "devil sword"." Basically, I want any and all opinions. I'm listening to it all, so we can have all the details of what people want before the OVA's released. So, no matter how minor you think your opinion may be, as long as it's actually related to the OVA, please tell me! If there's enough interest in doing this, I'll probably start a subforum for it so people can check out how stuff's going and whatnot. So, please, respond to this so I know what to do! 1: Yep, I'd watch it.  I've watched fans/dubs of many things and they turned out pretty good to me.2: If you mean like calling them Refill and Genius and all that, I'm cool with that. If not, I'm cool with that too. I'm not the least bit picky when it comes to names. (Except Max/Fog. I have no idea what to think of him. But who cares about him in the Symphonia section?) Though, I think it's best to address them by their Japanese names since it will/might fit. 3: So it would be like some fans/dubs on Tales of Eternia. Like Demon Fang appeared at the bottom and Majinken appeared at the top. But the direct translation has me baffled. It all sounds good, but I don't know what to think about the direct translation. There's my opinion that probably does not help at all. =/ --------------------  |

Okay, cool.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant. Go with the Japanese name if it's different, but use the spelling that makes the most sense... so none of that "Sheena" stuff. XD But probably Genius, Refill, Dike, Regal Bryan... can't think of any other changes... XD But yeah, that's what I meant.
Well, let me see if I can explain... Basically, when you download the episode, you'd get two files: the episode itself, and a text file with more notes and shit. The text file would have notes on character names, why we picked different spellings, that kinda thing. It would also have notes on attacks in it, which is where I might include the direct translation. So, basically, it would be in an entirely different file, you wouldn't even have to look at it if you didn't want to. XD But if you did, it might be kinda interesting to see the differences between some of the English release names and what the name should actually be. XD

1 is a yes, 3 sounds good to me.
For 2, if you plan on releasing it to the public like on Youtube or Animesuki or some other place like that, then I would recomend using the English names for those people who will watch it, but don't know/don't care for the Japanese names. If not then I'm fine either way. --------------------  |

Yeah, that was some of why I was having trouble deciding. XD Although... two releases would be very easy to manage... I mean, all you have to do is replace all uses of, for example, "Refill" with "Raine", then reincode... shouldn't be too much work... Dunno yet, though. XD Definitely something to think about. -------------------- |
