[Lyra Larks/Jack Tanith || 5th Year || CLOSED]

It was 2 P.M. according to the tiny face of the delicate watch Lyra had on her wrist that, for the past 15 minutes, she had been accustomed to checking at an almost subtly obsessed manner. Where was he? She couldn't believe that Jack was going to be late. Again. The idle taps of her feet on the shag carpeting of the Charms room did little to ease her impatience, and though she supposed she should have expected this to happen, she hadn't really thought that it would. For once, she wished that Jesse wasn't her friend who had the bad habit of being right about others guys like himself. Meaning, Jack Tanith had five more minutes before the patience of this Asian Ravenclaw was completely worn through and she would give up tutoring him.

....Alright, she would give him ten minutes and then call it a day.

Typically, what Lyra thought of when she thought about waiting with erratic impatience as she did now, was of a date potentially standing you up. A friend in dire trouble. Jesse taking time when getting ready for one of his dates. Not someone being extremely late to a tutoring session, of all things. Anything but that. Because, to her, that just seemed utterly pathetic if you couldn't even get yourself to get to something that would help you on time.

She blew a lock of hair out of her eyes in silent frustration, giving her watch another quick glance before she looked at the book that laid on top of her desk, collecting dust as she supposed it would if it were to reside in this classroom for too long. Had she been more obsessive-compulsive about it, she would have wiped off the layer of dust that had accumallated by now. Maybe even perform a cleaning charm on the classroom, which ought to have been the sensible thing to do in the first place, considering the state of the room. All of this ran through Lyra's head as she pondered the reasons as to why she was even tutoring this arrogant, haughty excuse of a Slytherin in the first place.

Oh, that's right. She finally got sick and tired of his pompous and extravagant reasons as to why she'd never meet his standards of a girlfriend and made a bet that he couldn't last one day telling the truth to anyone, and that if he did she would go out on a date with him and prove him wrong. What an idiot she had been to so blatantly put out there that she would even consider going out with that piece of scum. That pretty attractive piece of scum who she could remember saving her from utter humiliation at the hands of Eric Mulciber that one time last year, though he denied it completely and told her that he'd never help Muggle bloods like her before walking away in that haughty walk she couldn't stop looking at.

How that had all led to her tutoring him in Charms was beyond her realm of understanding, but she figured that ten more minutes would suffice and then she could walk away from all this. Not that was putting faith into him coming, oh no. Of course not. She simply had nothing better to do now that all her homework was done, and Quidditch practice seemed like forever's away. No, she kept telling herself, she really didn't care if he came at all.

At least, she hoped that she didn't.

A satisfied smirk, characteristic of a Slytherin such as himself, spread like butter over Jack Tanith's thin mouth. The tall, lanky boy's stride oozed over-confidence and pride in only himself as he jaunted further along the corridor, only nodding his head every few steps in greeting to the few portraits to make eye contact with him.

Usually, Jack would have never dreamed of offering anything more than a day's worth of frustration in the form of highly unfavorable words to the portraits, but he was in a good mood today. Not only had he gotten points for Slytherin, he had managed to get some taken away from Gryffindor. He had hexed Henna Storm, tricked Bethany Taylor into a closet that locked from the outside, and gotten himself a date to Hogsmeade for the upcoming trip.

The smirk pressing its self atop of his lips very clearly illustrated his assumption that Lyra Larks would become that date in a matter of no time, as it was quite obvious that he would be winning their little bet.

With a small sigh, he lifted his arm to take a look at the rather masculine wrist watch coiled around it, and with slightly widened eyes, hurried his stride along. He was nearly ten minutes tardy, and he was positive that being fashionably late wasn't something that was particularly attractive in Lyra Larks' eyes. Thus, with more effort than he liked to admit, he arrived in the doorway of the Charms room at exactly 2:09 p.m.

His smirk twisted into a slightly more innocent grin as he leaned nonchalantly against the door frame.

    "Fancy meeting you here."

An uncharacteristic growl was audible from Lyra's throat, but she was quick to follow it up with a polite cough as she began sorting through her notes from two previous classes. "You're late." She remarked, taking a second to look at him in disapprovement. "I really don't want to waste my time with someone who's idea of fun is missing class just to smoke those nasty cancer sticks in the boy's loo."

Had it been any other person, even another Slytherin, her tone wouldn't have been as sharp. But this specific Slytherin, was just enough to drive her to that edge. And she knew how close he was to crossing the line and losing their bet. She was waiting for it to happen with subtle satisfaction, because she knew that there must be one lie that he'd tell her before this was all over.

"Alright, let's go over blocking spells, since that's what we did last class." Lyra said briskly, uncrossing her legs in order to reach the notes that had flown away from her grasp.

"Late?!" he exclaimed, looking quite alarmed at the very idea of such a thing. His forearm flew upward as his gaze fell upon the ticking wrist watch wrapped around it. "Hardly. You're just grotesquely early." His inky eyes protruded dramatically at her assumption that he had merely been spending his spare time yellowing his teeth. "Look, 'Larks, I'm only going to say this once; You don't get teeth this white by puffing on a... whatever the hell it is you called it."

Her sharp tone and steely gaze drew a devilish smirk from his lips as he watched her with utmost care. There was something about her air of irritation that entertained him far more than any curse he'd ever let loose upon 'Storm or 'Taylor, or anyone in their pathetic circle of friends. Making her uncharacteristically angry was one of life's simple pleasures.

"Alright, let's go over blocking spells, since that's what we did last class."

Jack's brows kinked together as he retreated a step and made a highly unfavorable face.

"Blocking spells?" he repeated incredulously. "I could do every blocking spell known to man in my blood sleep, 'Larks. Maybe some of us have a harder time with them than others," he said with a pointed look that was an obvious attempt at making her angry, "But I don't. Sure there's nothing else you'd like to teach me, love?"

His tone was marked only by the subtlest hint of suggestion as he hopped up on to the professor's desk to sit.

Breathe in, breathe out. A voice said soothingly, trying to ease the tampered senses of patience that Lyra was trying very hard to control. Jack does this for a living, he's a Slytherin, what did you expect?

Well for one thing, she hadn't expect his sense of truthfullness to be so blatantly rude. And what if he wasn't telling her the truth? How was she supposed to know if he was breaking his part of the deal or not? This was going to drive her insane.

"A cigarette?" Lyra asked, arching an eyebrow elegantly as she grimaced at how obvious it was that he was trying to get on her nerves. And how annoyingly entertaining it was for him to do so. "I'm sorry that your feigned sense of stupidity is very convincing, because you should know what those things are. All your house mates use them, and I'm not impressed by your self flattery."

Her almond eyes, dark enough to be black, were drawn to her papers and she almost smirked when her eyes caught track of a few words at the bottom of her paper. Ah, so she had gotten a spell down. Now this bet was going to be interesting. The only problem would be for her to cast the spell and trying not to get Jack to realize it. Even if he agreed to that part of their bargain, she simply didn't trust him with knowing that she knew when he was lying or not. For once, she would have to thank those pesky Marauders for going into the Forbidden section of the library.

Lyra jarred the desk with her leg, dropping all the papers off it and her wand as well as Jack continued to speak, which was good because as she ducked down to get it she heard his complaints and almost, almost lost her cool. She fumbled around, murmuring what was possibly small talk from where Jack was standing, but what was in reality the words of the spell nine times, closed her eyes and as her hand grazed her wand, pointed it in the Slytherin's direction. She felt a tingle through her body from the spell's reaction, but if she had read their notes correctly, then Jack shouldn't have seen anything. A final swipe at all her papers, which crinkled loudly in her hands, and a grab at her wand and then Lyra was back up on her feet, putting the papers down and gripping her wand as she walked smoothly over the the edge of the room opposite him, as far away from the professor's desk as possible. Her eyes grazed the room for any consolation that her truth spell had worked and to her joy, a cloud-like aura had appeared around Jack's masculine figure.

Now, she felt that she could have a little fun with him. "Don't puff your chest out just yet," Lyra spoke wryly, trying her best not to look or sound satisfied, "you can't lie to me or anyone else this entire day or your little date is off, remember?"

She didn't want, didn't need, to think about it as a date. She thought for sure that she'd win. "But since you seem to know so much, why don't you throw a few spells at me and let me practice my blocking spells?"
