Title: Kibs painting projects
Description: Finally

kiblee - June 12, 2005 05:19 AM (GMT)
Ok, here we go. I started out with one wall in the kitchen. I will eventually do one wall in the family room to match. I love earth tones and especially barn red. The color I picked is called Cinnamon Cherry. I started out with washing the walls, windows and blinds. At this moment I'm not sure how I finished in a day. (oh yea, hubby helped a little. :P )

My whole house is in this color. Kind of a beige. The paint is called baby's breath. It needed some spicing up for a long time.

Primer pink (mauve really):

Jo you thought your color was bad, look at this and you will see bad. It was even worse in person. The sad thing is, my Mom would love this color. :dontgetit: It just scared me.

Proof that I did it myself (yes, I look hideouse, bite me, ok!)

And the finished version:

I wonder what it is going to take to get me to get the rest of my painting projects done? Now I need to find fabric to recover the kitchen chairs. I was going to do that and new curtains in the same fabric, but I think the old ones I made will do just fine.

Looks great, kiblee! I love how red perks up a house.

The color of your primer is - I kid you not - the color of our master bedroom in our rented house. Our landlady won't let us repaint it because "it's coordinated with the wallpaper border and the window treatments! It's professional decor!" It's gag-inducing, is what it is. It's bad feng shui. It's probably the root cause of my thyroid problem. Please come paint my house! I'll duke it out with the landlady later!

jmbk65 - June 12, 2005 02:45 PM (GMT)
 It LOOKS WONDERFUL! Doesn't it feel great to have it done?

It certainly makes a difference in the whole room doesn't it? WOW. I love the color, but of course it has me rethinking the purple on my dining room wall again! I still think the burgundy would be a better choice. Oh well. One day you know I will repaint that... don't you?

BTW ~ you look marvelous!

That LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! What a difference! The color is just perfect! No wonder you love it. You did a really great job on the whole thing it really looks great. I bet it changes the whole feel of that space too.

Go you! :cheerleader:

Kibs!! You're gorgeous, dahlin' --- and so are your walls! I had to  at the state of the kitchen counters in the "before" and "In process" photos. It looks like the lady of the house had been otherwise occupied with other matters!!

The red is stunning, especially with the loads of light you get!

MrsJack90 - June 13, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
Kibs I absolutely LOVE that color on walls! The first time I saw it on an HGTV program, I went wild over it and wondered how I could work that into my house. But, alas, my house is too small for a bold color like that one. :meh:

You did a fantastic job and you should be proud of yourself!

BTW - love your kitchen! I'm very jealous.

kiblee - June 13, 2005 02:09 PM (GMT)
I lost my post, :( . I think Liz and I must have sent ours at the same time and I lost. :P Anyway, thanks for your nice words. I'm liking it better day by day.

I did too! I've just about got it all cleaned up. The curtains are up too and I'm going to take one last picture. I think I'm going to do my oldests room next.

What's wrong with the counters? Mine always look like the In Process ones.

KIbs, it looks really nice. One day I hope to get some colour on my boring old white walls. Hey, do you do house calls? :w00t:

Here is my 2nd project. (Well 3rd, if you count the boat, and I do!)

This is my oldest's bedroom. You can't tell from the pictures, but I used a paint called sand wash. It actually has a sandy material in it. It looks really neat and really roughs up the wall. It is the hardest paint I've ever worked with. It's not perfect, but it turned out ok.

Hubby is trying to convince me we (me) need to paint the top part dark green. I told him to have at it, I did my part. Besides, I don't want the room to be to dark.

The kidlet is next. His is really going to be a project, and I don't think I will be able to get it done in one day.

jmbk65 - June 19, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
Nice job, Kibs! I can picture it with the dark green above too, but it looks very nice as is! I wish we could get a better feel for the texture, but the color is wonderful! I wish I could be more like you and get the stuff done in one day. My projects drag out over months... ala rummaged guest bedroom. :D

Take a break before the kidlet's room. I wouldn't want you to fry yourself out.

deetee - June 19, 2005 12:33 PM (GMT)
Nice job Kibs!
Send some of that energy my way will ya!?
I think it looks really nice. How does your son like it?
D

kiblee - June 19, 2005 03:11 PM (GMT)
He really likes it. Said it's like a new room, but not really.

Gina - June 20, 2005 11:53 AM (GMT)
Kibs! I love the color --- sorta like chocolate milk!

Do you have to mix the sand into the paint or is it pre-mixed? What made it hard to work with? I've seen this at our Lowes and I'm considering using it for our bedroom.

kiblee - July 6, 2005 03:37 PM (GMT)
Alright, I FINALLY got my youngest room done. My house has been torn up for weeks. It is the most dramatic by far and I really like it more and more each day. I just used a thick piece of painters tape around the middle to paint down to and u to for the strip. Why make anymore work than I have to. The bottom is texturized with some tools from Ralph Lauren that make it look like jeans. I left the one wall white. I've ordered some vinal lettering that says something about this boy being a hurricain that I will put up there. When it comes and I put it on , I'll post it.

I forgot to take the pictures before I got started but you get the idea of how boring it was.

Here is a close up of the jean detail. It still does not do it justice in the pictures. It's so cool how it looks like I cut up jeans and put them on the wall. Some parts are even really faded and worn looking.

user posted image

There is a "linen" look you can do with one of the tools I used. I'm toying with the idea of doing my whole bedroom, instead of one wall, and using that effect.

Gina I just realized I never answered your questions. The brown was hard to work with because it was like putting pudding on your wall. It comes premixed, BTW. It was hard to get it completley uniform and I guess I'm anal that way. But now that its all done, I like that it's darker and lighter in different areas, really adds to the texture.

EntropyGoddess - July 6, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
kiblee, your little boy's room looks so cool! You'll be able to find lots of accents, bedding, rugs, etc. to pick up those vibrant colors, and that jeans effect ought to last him through his teen years.

I see stuff like this on professional makeover shows on the HGTV and DIY channels, but it's really neat to see it done by "regular folks."

I like the textures Ralph Lauren offers, though I'm pretty incompetent at wall painting and we usually live in rental houses, so I haven't got up the nerve to try them yet. I have this fantasy of having a room with warm Tuscan gold walls with a stucco-like texture.

Merrianne - July 6, 2005 04:33 PM (GMT)
Wow, kibs, that looks great. That jeans texture is so cool!

Man, do I have to do something about our white walls one of these days...

jmbk65 - July 6, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
Nice job Kibs !

That really turned out amazing. I love the jean effect! (or is that affect?) Oh well, ya know what I mean. I am glad you got it done and I bet that he really likes it. What boy wouldn't !

Next time you come visit me I am going to have a long list of painting projects that you need to help me with! :D

Ya are coming back some day... right?????

I realized I'm going to have to come up with some new curtains in the last room. I also want some in the kitchen. I' want to recover the chairs to match. It never ends does it?

So how many here are hoping like heck Kibs uses her spell checker before lettering her son's wall?????

:P

Nice job, though!!!!!!!!!! Come on down to Texas, both Vikki and I could use your experience!

You'll be glad to know that's in the manufacturer's hands. :neener: And my expertise is free, but my labor is not. :P

IMAJEAN - July 8, 2005 11:16 AM (GMT)
Kibs, hate to say it but I agree with Gina. Just because you have the right letters doesn't mean you'll put them in the right order! Better check with Webster first.

Vinyl, can you do that?? :neener:

shemilie - July 14, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
Beautiful, Kibs. Like Liz, I love color, real color, on walls. You've also given me some really great ideas for my house also.

kiblee - February 10, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)
I'm back at it again.

This is my bedroom. I really surprised myself with this one. I picked the paint using a burnt orange color in the bedspread. I was SO unsure of how this was going to work, but I like it. I even took some of it into the bathroom. I also looks amazing with black accents. I have picked out a black valance I need to order for the window. Some of the pics are blurry. I didn't realize it when I took them and now my room has laundry all over it and I don't want to document THAT.

Here is a little swatch of the texture. Pictures just don't do it justice, but it looks like leather.

I didn't paint this wall. I hope it would help the built in shelf that I had no intention of messing with. I think it works with the mirror over the bed to pick up the painted wall across the room.

I also decided to kindof retro the boys bathroom. This is what I have so far. I will be getting various size circles in brown, green, and blue to run along the top of the wall and I'm going to change all the fixtures to silver.

Here's the hanging above their toilet.

I regret to report it hasn't made a difference. <_<

There it is. I'm working on the hall next. I've got the paint and I just need to get the motivation.

jmbk65 - February 11, 2007 04:43 AM (GMT)
 Nicely done, Kibs! I absolutely LOVE the rich color in the bedroom It really makes things look so cozy and inviting! The texture looks so good too. Way to go!

I love the colors you picked for the boy's bath. That is one of my favoirte combinations. I remember Gregg's mom making me an afghan when were just dating with those colors in it. She looked at me kind of odd when I requested them, but they were my favorites.

:D

kiblee - March 10, 2009 05:18 PM (GMT)
Finally after three months the baby's room is done! Now I just need it to be July and have this pregnancy done!

This was my inspiration for the room:

They were cups we used for a science fair project.

I'm really happy with how it turned out. Like everyone else, we have felt the pinch of the economy. Our envelope contract was cancelled and I knew I would not have a lot to spend on putting this room together. I'm quite happy with what I did and how much money I did it with. The room was RR's and if you remember it was painted red and blue with a white stripe. I had left over white and brown paint from previous projects. I did a rough paint with the white and then painted it brown. Cost $0. I had all the products I needed! Bonus!

This 9 piece bedding set I wanted sooooo bad, but it was $170. I decided to check out ebay and it was there. I got it for $83 brand new, including shipping. :woot:

I decided to go "older" with the decorations. Babies just aren't babies for long. This way I won't have to redecorate in two years. I made these fabric decorations with chip board. The fabric matched perfectly and it was all on sale! I can even put pictures on them later if I want. I spent about $7
user posted image

I bought raw wood letters to spell dream and painted them dark brown. The were on sale and I spent $3.50. I already had the paint. The buckets were valentined clearence for 50% off and the brown ribbon on the top of them have little pink polka dots.
user posted image

The lamp I made myself. Here is where I got the inspiration from. (Believe it or not) This thing is really over done and gaudy.
user posted image

Tot told me I should in NO WAY make a lamp. He is happy with my version and so am I! I got the shade and the base for $15 at Walmart and spent about $10 on ribbon. Some of which is left and I can use to scrapbook with.

I used my Cricket machine to make a vinyl saying for the wall. It says Little girls have a magic all their own. The word magic is in pink and didn't photograph well.

:w00t: WOW!!

Have you thought of helping people with decorating and crafts as a way to replace the envelopes?? Because you're AMAZING!!!!!

It looks great, and your creations look so fabulous and perfect, and I can't believe you did it all on such a shoestring budget!

:highfive:

Merrianne - March 10, 2009 05:52 PM (GMT)
Kibs, it's just beautiful, and you are so talented! I love how you kept to a strict budget but still made it look wonderful! :notworthy:

Now that you're done with that, will you do my whole house for me?

BigBird - March 10, 2009 11:11 PM (GMT)
That is totally amazing - so beautiful and liveable, and it won't need to be updated until your daughter is quite a big girl.

You've got such a talent for interior decoration, and for being able to do it on a budget. You should be offering consultant services!

kiblee - March 11, 2009 03:52 PM (GMT)
Thanks. I wish I felt confident enough to consult, but there are so many people who are so much better. And if you have enough money you can make anything look good. Hubby really thinks I should put that lamp on ebay and see what it would sell for and maybe make them and sell them. It's an idea. There are so many different designs I could come up with.

BigBird - March 12, 2009 03:01 AM (GMT)
I think that's a terrific idea. There are lots of people like me who are totally craft-challenged who'd love to be able to buy something like that.

aprils - March 17, 2009 10:50 PM (GMT)
Kibs! It's beautiful! I can't believe you're having a baby girlie! Congratulations!

I lost my mojo for a while, but you have given me inspiration!
