Honorverse RPGThe Honor Harrington series has been one of my favorite series for a long time because it combines stylized space drama with a very compelling and compassionate main character. I wanted to create a fan site and RPG that reflects the Honorverse, but without weighing it down with a lot of the constraints of RP'ing in a canon story. We emphasize original characters, on the armed cruiser "Q-Ship" HMS Anthem, whose mission is to help cement the fragile alliances of the Star Kingdom of Manticore and the systems around her.
We're not style nazis, though. Our ultimate aim is to have fun. Some rules we have for practical purposes, some for deeper reasons, but we ask you follow them so everyone can enjoy themselves in the long run. Everyone has room to grow, and we're not going to be on you about every little thing. All we ask is that you try to become a better writer, a better roleplayer, and a better friend in the process.
The Rules of Star KingdomsBasic Rules1. Please be respectful at all times. We shall do the same for you.
2. No spamming, advertising outside of the advertisement forum, or double-posting. If you must add something, edit your post and note it.
3.
You must register with a non-canon name. You are allowed to use nicknames or usernames that are not canon-oriented. We put a heavy emphasis on original characters. Character names must be British or fitting to the theme. We reserve the right to ask you to change your name.
4. Avatars are limited to 100x100 and siggys to 500x200. Please try to keep avatars human and in theme. I do not care if you draw your avatar or signature, however, I will warn those who have been found stealing graphics or hotlinking them from sites that are not their own.
5. We maintain a PG-13 rating in all areas of the site.
6. Once you put in your application, the admins will sort you into your usergroup. You are free to post in the OOC forum while you wait to be sorted.
7. You may only pm about being accepted after 72 hours have passed since you put in your application.
8. The admins and moderators always have the last say.
Roleplay Rules1. We emphasize quality over quantity. We ask for a minimum of at least five sentences, but ask that you put a high level of craft into your writing no matter the length.
2. Multiple accounts are allowed, but please limit yourself to what you can handle and keep active. This includes siblings, other relatives, and spouses. You may play multiple characters on one account, but please list your characters' names and positions in your signature.
3. No God-moding. God-moding means you writing another character's actions into your own. Your character may act on another character, and the other character responds with their own actions.
4. Try to use good grammar and spelling. If this is a difficult area for you, then write your posts in Word or another text editor, and then run spell check. Those of you using Firefox browser should have a spell checker already installed.
5. Prose should be in third-person, while dialogue should be in first-person.
6. If you would like your threads to be private, please title them as such. Since Invisionboard offers a Topic Description, it would make sense to use that. Something like {Closed; Bob} would be good if you just wanted Bob to participate. It doesn't really matter what kind of parentheses you use or if you use them at all.
7. You may use colors in the non-RP forums, but please avoid using different colors and font sizes in the RP threads. Instead, use your words to describe the scene.
8. When Canon characters are involved in a closed plot thread, the topic will include {PLOT}, and the Topic description will mark it closed. Please do not participate in these threads. You will be able to interact with the canon characters in other threads.
9. We follows what we call "interaction-driven roleplay". As you write your posts, consider interaction your first priority, not merely your personal aims and the aims of your character. The end effect is to create not only a cohesive story, but a cohesive roleplay world. There is much written about Mary Sue/Gary Stu-type characters, but not a lot written on why these are ultimately failures in RPGs.
You can find further information here.
Plot1. We follow the canon story, following the end of "At All Costs". The plot is a diplomatic merchant cruiser called RMN Anthem, and its missions involve trying to forge fragile alliances with various star systems.
2. Canons are played by staff and eventually by selected players who have proved themselves dedicated. Do not ask us about playing canons; we will ask you. Those who ask will be warned.
Players joining as canon characters with edited names will have their characters immediately deleted. You will find that the canon story plays more of a minor part in this story, because we instead prefer to focus on the stories of the original characters. Consider the canon story a side narrative, if you will. Most of the action will take place on the Anthem and with minor canons on planets.
3. Treecat bonds and other talents like physical mechanical apparatus will be through a lottery, and the staff will be subject to the lottery just like any other player. Once someone wins a talent, they must write a plausible explanation into their application, and play it fairly. We reserve the right to revoke talents if a player is overusing it. Talents and treecat bonds will not be approved through character applications.
Unique Site Elements1. The store is in process!
2. There are other mods we are considering. If you see the site is "offline" to be modified, there will be a note stating that and it should be up shortly.
