Title: last friends

tammymagic - June 29, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
has anyone else seen it?
it has ryo from news in it. but he's slightly terrifying... he beats up his girlfriend. and i mean really. the first time he does it it's kind of hard to watch...

anyway, this series is awesome. it has a pretty cool theme song too. 'prisoner of love' by utada hikaru.

i loved michiru, eri and takeru.
ruka was a bitch.aha.~

TwistedSister - June 29, 2008 11:25 PM (GMT)
i've seen it and loved it!
normally i don't like watching dramas that deal with such serious topics but i really enjoyed this one!
i think masami was ok and i loved eita!
and at first i didn't know that ueno juri (ruka) was the same actress that played nodame on "nodame cantabile"! i mean, how different can two characters be?!? great actress!
and although i'm not much of a news fan i think ryo acted really well, too. first i thought "great, they put some johnny's guy in the drama to get more people to watch it" but he really pulled it off. and the strange thing is that i really am against DV (one of my ex bfs hit me once, i hit him back and left him) i still kind of understood to some extension why he acted the way he did and even felt a little sorry for him...
and finally!!! a japanese drama with a real and happy ending! (that's one thing about japanese dramas that i hate: the lack of happy endings. they either end sad or they have some kind of open ending, of which neither is really satisfying...)

all in all, last friends was really great!

tammymagic - June 29, 2008 11:37 PM (GMT)
i know what you mean...i hated sosuke for the first few episodes, but then i started to feel really sorry for him. especially in the second to last ep.....aaaah that was so sad DX

ryo's acting was amazing. he's a better actor than he is a singer. and tbh his singing's not terrible either :D

mara_cloud - July 6, 2008 12:23 PM (GMT)
I hated Sousuke too... But you can see that he's really not all bad. Something made him that way, so it was kind of sad for him.

Ruka and Eri were great, and I think Eita is an amazing actor who brought out Takeru's character really well. I like him as an actor generally, though between the roles I've seen him play, I think Takeru is my favorite.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Masami Nagasawa (Michiru), to the point where seeing her take Sousuke's abuse was annoying and frustrating. Still, there are points to Michiru's character that I like, and when I wasn't beating her up myself in my mind for not fighting back, I was hating Sousuke for attacking a really nice girl.

And although the novelty of seeing Ryo act in another serious drama was promising, I actually started watching the series because the opening is so haunting (and I liked Prisoner of Love before I realized it had been used for the drama). Also, JE boys rarely take the "bad guy" roles, so that got me interested as well.

tammymagic - July 6, 2008 12:47 PM (GMT)
i love takeru. the weird stringy blond highlight in his hair pissed me off majorly though. it was so random...

'prisoner of love' is an amazing song. i love utada hikaru. she wins at everything.

:D

i actually emphatized with sosuke and takeru. both experienced some traumatic episodes in their lives. but here you see how different people cope with their problems in their own ways. it's unfortunate that sosuke turned out that way. i guess if you were never shown real love and was tossed around a lot, you'd develop this warped values and image of how to love. takeru, on the other hand, turned out to be a kind and gentle man but incapable of any physcial connection with the opposite sex. he may never be able to overcome that big hurdle but at least he turned out kind and gentle. that basically compensates everything. i must admit that i actually felt sad when sosuke took his own life. the man was really lost. too bad nobody can save him. i guess that was the only way out for him. at least before his demise, he was able to save the little boy. the boy served as a beacon of hope for sosuke. hopefully, the boy turns out to be a better man than him. ryo i must say was an effective sosuke. i commend him for a job well done. that goes to the rest of the cast members as well.

jkyousuke - July 7, 2008 05:21 AM (GMT)
i feel terrible for thinking that domesticabuse!ryo is actually kinda hot.

it's the messy hair!

maryjane - July 7, 2008 05:24 AM (GMT)
I watched like, 4 episodes and then quit the series.
*has a short attention span*

Rosa - July 7, 2008 10:27 AM (GMT)
maryjane <3
Finally another person with a nonexistent attention span.
I love how there are people who can watch 2 or more episodes of something in a day. I can only if it's like, AMAZINGLY good.

So I watched 1 episode last week, nothing since. It really looks like it's decent. I'm not sure if I should pick it up again or if I should find something with a lighter theme :/

fujinakaheero - July 29, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
O_o

sorry...

I'm actually re-watching it too, first time I saw it was on a streaming site and now i have all the episodes downloaded because i want to make a music video for it.

I loved Ruka though, most awesome person in the whole show. XD
I loved in either episode 10 or 11, can't remember, when Sousuke is pinning her down and trying to molest her she kicks him out and hits him. I was like "take that titties!" I love when the females actually fight back until the very end.

But this overall theme of the show is very serious, if you like serious shows i highly recommend this, just because it is dealing with domestic violence, which is a very touchy subject to many people.

(by the way, I found this show through Utada's song for it, Prisoner of Love. cause I was looking up new songs by her and found it on youtube but it was the opening for LF.. so then I decided to check out the show.)
Also not gonna lie, the girl love in it that Ruka has for Michiru caught my attention.

TwistedSister - July 29, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
one, maybe, stupid question: was the special episode just like 10 minutes? or was it a complete episode and i just can't fnd it on the nternet?

fujinakaheero - August 3, 2008 11:37 PM (GMT)
it's actually an hour long but it's just a review of things that happened in the series. The actual continuation that everyone was looking for in the SP was only 10 minutes long in that entire hour long episode.

If you want to find it I suggest you go to D-addicts.com which is the actual fansubbing group that did Last Friends. That's where I got it.

angelofdevotion - August 4, 2008 06:39 AM (GMT)
Ryo-chan was too scary on this one right???
I was soooo scared but then he is SUCH A GREAT ACTOR!
hahaha

jon13lee - August 8, 2008 02:08 AM (GMT)
i watched like 10 minutes of it and fell asleep. don't get me wrong...i was just freaking tired lol. don't really know if i should give it a try. i guess it won't hurt to watch one epi

epic - August 14, 2008 01:16 PM (GMT)
I watched it, obsessed over it, and actually felt sorry for Sosuke even if he's a bastard. It was a really good drama, it could've turned out very cheesy but everyone of the cast was a great choice. Mind you Michiru pissed me off every two seconds she went back to Sosuke, I just wanted to shake her so bad. But overall I loved this drama, I hope more are made like this. With serious issues being tackled.

Edit.
What exactly was Takeru's problem they never fully mentioned it. That's the only thing that I'm still unsure about.

i think his step sister molested him or something.
iono.
his stepsister did something.

:/

ooh ryo won an award for his epicness as sosuke apparently.
he definitely deserves it. he's an awesome actor.

suppy55 - September 5, 2008 04:45 AM (GMT)
I really loved his character.....to the point that I disliked him. He did play his part really well though.

Nerlyon - September 25, 2008 02:07 PM (GMT)
it must be challenging for Ryo to act violent! still he was able to do a great performance! wonder if he got feel guilty acting violent to his acting partners? the only thing i couldn't stand is michiru's voice? i think she should speak a wee bit louder. But she can act though. In fact all of them acted very well ^^

i read an interview with him a while ago where he said that when they filmed the scenes where he beats up michiru, he nearly cried.

bless.

I have watched like four episoded because all my friends love this serie.
They say it's the best drama they have ever seen....
I don't know if I think that, but I can recognize a relly good drama.
And the intro is probably the best ever made :P

unplugged-akizar - June 2, 2009 06:19 AM (GMT)
I've only managed to watch maybe half of the series? But I thought it was pretty good, I was so glad Ryo was in there from NEWS~

pon-mikan - June 2, 2009 12:32 PM (GMT)

I'd prefer Koizora better than this..
though I'd prefer this over One Liter of Tears...
lol...

another drama w/c got some of its fanbase due to a JE member.. >.>
but yeah.. the story was nice and all... though 11 episodes were just plain...
short... >.<

at first I thought Nishikido Ryo's character was cute..
until I got to the part of the split-personality...

my friends and I got the idea of a share house cause of this...
and I now have a thing w/ couple cups.. XP

relaxpanda - November 5, 2009 02:10 PM (GMT)
It's very boring if a person has ADD or can not somehow identify himself or herself with the problems of society shown in the drama.

Although some of them are blown out of proportions, it still is a good drama in my opinion. Acting is A+++ from Eita, Ryo and... Ruka . (I forget her name but i've seen her in Nodama and other dramas 8D)

AND THE SONG IS AAAA+++. Very fitting! NAD THE OPENING CREDITS, my lord i love it. <3 :D :D :D :D :D Prisoner of Love is vveeeeery apt. <3

shinju - December 7, 2009 02:50 AM (GMT)
I have not seen, but I will see

Hyaru12 - February 22, 2010 10:21 PM (GMT)
I really want to watch this drama, I heard it is so good! I mainly want to see it because of Nishikido Ryo, who plays that Sosuke guy. I heard he plays the role so frightingly well, it is scary. That's why I'm also not sure if I should watch it, seeing a trailer of it had me on the edge of my seat already XD

Ardiane - July 8, 2010 10:57 AM (GMT)
I cried so much in this drama and Ryo is amazing (as always).

w2fphoenix - January 14, 2012 11:10 AM (GMT)
This is a really really good drama to watch.
I was sooo into it~!

tsukiakari - June 17, 2012 02:29 AM (GMT)
wow this thread is kinda old!

I never finished watching this series even though the plot seemed to be interesting.
They were finally portraying homosexuality in a Japanese mainstream television (late night airing though) as the leading arch without offensive stereotypes (Ueno Juri had just finished the great Nodame Cantabile dorama, and as such was an actress that gained recognition) and that's something to admire!

I downloaded the first episodes and watched them, but I didn't go further because there was no subtitles to it yet, and my japanese isn't that great to follow complex dialogues.
But now, being reminded of it in this reply, I might finish it next month, when college vacation starts!

Presca - October 11, 2012 05:04 AM (GMT)
It's too funny - I have nearly 30+ actors I like that are Korean, but Eita is for me my favorite only in Japanese dramas, I have liked others but always come back to him. He was fabulous in this, and I adore anything with him and the terrific and sweet actress Juri Ueno :)
